The really, really ironic thing is AnonyMint accusing others of being irrational. Fruit Loop city.

You can't mine alt-coins with block erupters, its only for Sha-256.

Gee, not even Namecoin, Peercoin, Devcoin, Terracoin, Bytecoin, Ixcoin, I0coin, or Freicoin? Because they all use SHA-256.

The idea with minepeon is that it is a 'load and go' mining solution, both linux, required packages and mining software all in one.  But the author takes 20% for providing this.

I don't think it's that complicated to use arch linux or debian and build the packages for cgminer or bfgminer.  Of course, anyone could upload a working copy of such a thing it'd be less than 1gb.

Spendulus,

Where do you get the 20% figure from? The default minepeon configuration mines for 15 minutes per day for the author as a donation. If you run your miner for 24 hours/day, that works out to about 1%. You can change the number of donation minutes through the minepeon web interface.

Not all wifi dongles work with the RasPi. I've had good success with this unit:  http://www.adafruit.com/products/814. I'm running 15 Block Erupters on a RasPi with this dongle. I'm assuming that your wifi dongle is on one of the hubs, not on one of the RasPi USB ports. Some dongles draw more power than the RasPi ports can provide. Also, six Block Erupters will use all of the power on a D-Link H7 hub, so your keyboard and wifi dongle would need to go on your 4th hub.

The easy way is to use a wifi bridge or game adapter that you connect with an ethernet cable to the RasPi ethernet port. If you can get the bridge configured correctly (which you can do on a PC), then it's just about guaranteed to work with the RasPi. This also saves a precious USB port.

6  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Blade miner trouble. on: September 13, 2013, 01:39:10 AM
If you don't want to change any router settings, you could find a small hub or switch (one that's not built into a router), plug the blade into it, and plug a PC's ethernet port into it. On the PC, change its IP address to a static address of 192.168.1.1,
netmask 255.255.255.0. The DNS setting won't matter.

Then, fire up your PC web browser, and point it to http://192.168.1.254:8000. You can then use the web interface to change your blade's IP address to match your router's LAN addresses.

If you have a crossover ethernet cable, you might be able to connect a PC's ethernet port directly to the blade, without using a hub or switch.

Yep, and if you bought some from them previously at a higher price, BTCGuild will give you coupons to buy that many at 0.15 BTC each (plus 0.05 BTC shipping for each order). That includes shipping in the U.S. I paid 0.10 BTC for shipping to the U.K. for Anonymailer's Erupter, for a total of 0.25 BTC.

P.S. The current full price of 0.24 BTC includes shipping within the U.S.

Actually, that was for a U.S. shipping address, from a U.S. company. Slightly more for shipping to the U.K. I got your PM, and I replied with a question.

By the way, it will cost me 0.2 BTC to send you a Block Erupter, including shipping. If you can get one for a better price, I'll just send you the BTC.

Heck, Anonymailer, you do good work. PM me a mailing address and I'll have a Block Erupter sent to you.

In my case, I think everything is working right, but it's being reported wrong to Macminer. The pool web site (btcguild) is showing all the correct numbers for hash rate and blocks accepted. It's just showing the wrong numbers in the Macminer bfgminer window.

Just updated MacMiner to version 1.4.9 on my iMac, running OS X Version 10.8.4. I'm using bfgminer on a single Block Erupter USB miner.

It works fine with the pool (btcguild), but the miner window shows a very low hash rate (~5 MH/s when it should be 330 MH/s), and shows a very low accepted block number. On the btcguild web site, all is well for hash rate and accepted block numbers.

I had no problem with the previous version.

Thanks,

12  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin: To ASIC, or not to ASIC? on: September 06, 2013, 11:12:11 PM
From reading this article it seems that the author, "Crypto", does not understand that "USB Erupters" use ASICs. Perhaps he can someday accumulate enough Bitcoins to buy a clue.

ajw,

You must have lost a lot of money with BFL to be so vindictive.

We're based in Huntsville, AL.. so a bit far away.. but thanks for the offer.
David,

As luck would have it, I live in Huntsville. I'll sell you one of my (barely) used block erupters for $60. Or, if you have 0.6 BTC, you can order a new one and have it in hand in a week or two.

I'm currently running seven erupters on a RasPi with MinePeon, and they're working very well.

Regards,

15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Raspberry PI with 3 BFLs on: July 10, 2013, 09:49:15 PM
I suspect that you'll receive a single 60GH/s unit.

I think the advice you've been given above about the Pi is good. You shouldn't need any extra cooling for the Pi. In general, don't try to power anything (like a WiFi adapter) from the Pi's onboard USB ports. Just use one of those ports to connect to a powered USB hub and everything should work fine.

There's a wealth of Pi information at http://www.raspberrypi.org.

Can you compare the checksum or hash of your downloaded client to the official one?
Yep, I can do that, as soon as I find an official version that's the same as mine. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

In firefox I can right click on my downloads and go to the page I downloaded it from -- does Safari (or whatever you used) have something like that?
I'm using Chrome, but unfortunately, I deleted the download file once I installed the wallet app.

Please retrace the exact steps you did to find the Mac version of the client you downloaded (searches, sites visited etc.) and let us know if you can find the place you downloaded from again.
I'll try, using my browser history, but it's going to be a long slog.

I can't think of anything that could have lead to a copy of my wallet.dat file getting out. The iMac that I'm using never leaves my desktop, my Wifi is secured with decent security, the wallet.dat only gets backed up to my Time Capsule.

I really appreciate the comments and suggestions by the more experienced members. I'm not going to be putting any more BTC in this wallet. I'm going to be much more security-conscious when I set up the next wallet.

One of the ways that I believe someone could have hacked it is by connecting to my wallet client via a socket. I ran a little Perl server that listens on port 8333, but nobody connected to it. Unfortunately, that was after I closed down all incoming ports on my router firewall (I had only ssh, http, and minecraft ports open, and they were not directed to my Mac), so that's not conclusive.

Where did you download the wallet client from?
Yes, which client are you using.  That might help.

Is 1HeAK9siHVWYfWGBVBcGz13WUZkYs5aUGx in your address book?
Bitcoin-Qt version v0.8.1-beta.

It looks like the address book is stored in the wallet.dat file. Since my current wallet.dat file is one that was restored from before the theft, it doesn't show that address. I saved a copy of the hacked wallet.dat file before I did the restore, but it's corrupted, so the wallet client can't read it. I can't see any addresses in the corrupted file when I use the UNIX 'strings' tool on it, even though I see some of my legitimate addresses when I do 'strings' on the current, good wallet.dat file.
