1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Effects of a new year on market? on: December 30, 2017, 05:17:57 PM
Hahaha @doge :-)

I think the correction we're seeing was inevitable, but this whole market is still just speculation, current value of Ripple makes them worth half of Visa?  Seems bonkers to me but the whole crypto world doesn't seem based on reality so what do I know.  Hodl for me, the more I look at short term trades the more mistakes I make.

I'm sure they'll have a plan for how many to release so the price doesn't dump overnight.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you had $50, what would you invest in? on: December 21, 2017, 06:42:27 PM
Prob too late for XVG, maybe half each in XRP and RDD.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why litecoin is going up so high? on: December 12, 2017, 08:12:51 PM
Errrrr, so tempted to dump LTC right now, if I hang on now and it drops I might be holding through the predicted "multi year bear market Charlie is predicting.

Only hold 2.8 coins! Big decisions!  Grin
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: price of bitcoin in december? on: November 28, 2017, 06:40:14 PM
Given the rate of the rise over the last month I would expect a correction at some point, or at least a levelling off before the end of the year and a more measured increase.
Be more interested in what some of the other currencies might start doing.

Met my wife in online dating after I insulted her for a misleading advert :-)

I think more than me, my kids want to see me live for a few more years, then from a biological point of view my job is done, and I can relax and enjoy life or die, the planet won't care too much!
8  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it possible for the bitcoin to lose it's value ? on: November 20, 2017, 08:17:59 AM
Can't see people stopping using it (barring a major event) now the banks and other financials are really picking up on it.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: BitCoin core writes too fragmented data on: November 19, 2017, 04:24:50 PM
What's typical sync time?  Due to space constraints and for availability I'm experimenting running Core on a low spec Celeron with RAID space for media etc, currently on day 3 of sync with 2 more left apparently!

Fragmentation looks ok but I did start with loads of disk space which would have helped.
10  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Zimbabwe's Dilemma: what next on: November 17, 2017, 10:11:34 AM
It will be more of the same, the replacement is also old guard and has a long list of human rights abuses stretching back decades, I can't se how removing Mugabe makes any difference (except now his wife won't take over).

I don't know if this has been referenced before but I'm with Stephen Fry on this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-suvkwNYSQo

In summary he states that as "God" has created such a miserable existence for so many people he must be mean/capricious/maniac.  I think it's a fair point.  Interviewer didn't like the answers much though!

My worry about cryptocurrencies in general is what happens if the security is compromised?  If the block chain integrity was able to be circumvented the whole thing would massively devalue.  It appears secure by design but what if....?
