1  Economy / Economics / Re: The end is near on: June 25, 2013, 10:41:59 PM
It looks like I'm in the minority here.

Things are messed-up and they always have been.  Human beings are running the show, ad that's messed-up by definition.

The markets are not about to collapse.  Leaders are making poor decisions, and we pay for that through the erosion we see.  The erosion will continue.

Even places where things are truly bad (and there are many, Syria for example) have not collapsed.

If you live in a relatively safe part of the world you need to worry more about your individual collapse than the world around you.  The fear of the outside is always greater than the reality.  And the fear on the inside (self) is never high enough.

Here in the USA you see doomsday preppers stocking-up on food, guns, bug out shelters.  They see the solution as having a year of food and guns.  Yet many are over-weight and in poor physical condition.  What they should really consider is that if society breaks down enough to require a year's worth of food, how will they physically and mentally survive the ordeal.  Their prep solution is to spend money on outside things instead of strengthening from the inside/

Any way, I am an optimist and see the future as far brighter than the past.  The good old days are always right now.

2  Economy / Economics / Re: My bank account's got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: June 25, 2013, 10:29:54 PM
I'm sorry for you.  I have been in a similar position in the past and can feel your pain.

My bank held a large sum of money that they required as a 'reserve' for payment processing.  When the business was 'shut down' they held the reserve.  It was the most stress I ever endured because I had debts equal to what they held.

Fortunately 180 days later the funds were released.  I hope this is how it goes for you.

My only piece of advice is to keep all of your business documents up to date and in perfect order.  You don't want the bank to claim your business is no longer valid so they have some excuse not to pay you.  This may not apply to you, or you may have already thought of this.

Finally, once you deal with large banks for a while you truly learn how sleazy these 'legitimate' businesses are.  But we already knew that...

Good luck.
3  Economy / Economics / Re: Keeping Bitcoin Price High on: June 25, 2013, 10:19:09 PM
Is it not the case that the reason most currency fluctuations are relatively small lies in the fact that central banks are there for intervention.

I also believe the sheer money supply acts as a buffer itself for national currencies.

The bit coin money supply is too small, and there is also concentration (some big holders), so I would expect volatility for quite a while.  When I look at Mt. Gox daily volume it's a tiny amount.

Wider acceptance can help smooth things out.

Also, the fact that arbitrage opportunities exist is indicative of a market where information is not flowing smoothly enough.

I would be interested in the total number of wallets in existence, and how that is trending over time.

At the present time, the people who can unload large amounts of coins are really the ones who have the biggest impact on price--not average joe shmoe like me

That's my 2 cents.

4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Way to get round the 5 post limit... on: June 24, 2013, 06:09:46 PM
I have no issue with the waiting period and five post thing.  What was a little frustrating is wanting to get into the block by that canary has, and not being able to do so immediately.  Good things come to those who wait and I can wait for the next block buy if I miss this one.

In terms of solutions to get around the bot issues, trolling, etc.  Perhaps requiring a very small donation would solve the bot problem, might increase bit coin velocity slightly as people have to get hold of bit coins to post, and would keep away some trolls.

That's my newbie 2 cents.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 24, 2013, 06:03:16 PM
Hi,
I'm in Newbie Jail and would like to be able to be part of the block buys that happen.  Being a newbie, in general, it's hard to do anything without being able to post.

Thanks for your help!

Andreas.

If you have a need to be allowed into the forum beyond before you have completed the required 5 posts and 4 hours logged in, please post your request here. You must provide evidence that shows that you either understand more about Bitcoin than the average newbie, or that what you want to post can only be done in another forum. Reasons such as "I'm not a spammer" will be ignored. Try to be as specific as possible.

If you learned of Bitcoin through a currently established member of this forum who feels that you are ready to be released to the rest of the forum or who is willing to mentor you, or if you want to make a new account that is separate from your already-existing established forum account, have the existing user/account vouch for you after you have made your request.

If you are asking to be whitelisted because you are having a problem with something, we generally look more favorably on people who have already attempted to solve their issue in the Newbie board. Even if you end up not qualifying for preemptive whitelisting, your post might still qualify for being moved to another board if you have received insufficient help after a few hours.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Please note: If you see "Jr. Member" by your name, you have already met the 5 posts and 4 hour requirements and don't need to post here. Additionally, after you meet the requirements, it can take up to 10 minutes for your account to be automatically upgraded.
