1  Other / Beginners & Help / ButteryflyLabs back order time on a ASIC miner? on: July 29, 2013, 08:25:11 AM
Does anyone have any idea what sort of backlog there is on the Jalapeno's AISC's from ButterflyLabs?  It says it can take 2 months+ on the order page but I have heard people waiting a lot longer for them, just don't want to shove a load of money down and then not end up getting it for 6 months odd you know, not sure what to do? :-/

Anyone know anything about it?

Very interesting conversation, power usage has been making me hold back on running more GPU's especially now the difficulty has raised somewhat  Undecided

Ran through the install guide for cgminer in Windows for LTC, all went perfectly but when I run it I get the below:

C:\CGminer>cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.give-me-ltc.com:3334/ -u xxxx -p xxxx -I 20 -w 128 -g 1
[2013-07-01 14:26:46] cgminer: --scrypt: unrecognized option

(Obviously I am using my username & password where xxxx is)

Any ideas people?

Thanks very much for the replies guys, I downloaded cgminer earlier and im a bit confused already haha, assume I just need to carefully follow the windows-build.txt file all the way through to get it working?

I will ignore NameCoin for now then but I have been thinking maybe I will be better off trying out LTC over BTC, what do you think as I am only kicking out around 1100 Mhash  Huh

I'm running my 7950's at 1100mhz core, will check voltage later and let you know.

What im not sure about is if a memory speed increase would help with the mining or not, does anyone know?

18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Radeon 7950 on: June 26, 2013, 02:11:07 PM
As said not really, the big issue being how much electricity it will use verses what you can profit from it, do you leave your PC on all the time?  If so then having a 7950 running 24x7 will only add an extra 180-ish watts or so load but if your PC stays off a lot then you will have an additional 300w + watts obviously depending on your PC spec which will soon add up over a month and so make your profits very minimal after you have covered the electric to the point of whether it would be worth doing at all, especially at the moment as difficulty has gone up and its taking longer to produce BitCoins.

A while ago I was running a single 7950 @ 500Mhash and after a week of 24x7 running I barely made 0.1 Bitcoin, you think times that by 10 = 2.5 months almost to make a single bit coin!  Undecided

Might be worth looking at LiteCoins like its been mentioned Smiley

19  Other / Beginners & Help / Best mining Client and NameCoin? on: June 25, 2013, 10:14:18 AM
Hey all,

Am new to BitCoins and mining them, have set myself up and been using BitMinter on a couple of AMD Radeon GPU's, I am using the native Java client but was wondering if there is any advantage to using another one such as cgminer, bfgminer etc?  Or indeed is there a better system I can use altogether rather than BitMinter?!

Also, NameCoin I can sort of see what it is but im not sure what I can do with them, is there somewhere that buys them or does it not work like that? Can't see great deal of info about it...

Any help much appreciated  Smiley
