1  Bitcoin / Legal / Recently received this Scam E-mail on: February 29, 2016, 03:59:29 AM
So I just opened up my e-mail this evening and found this e-mail sent to me.  If I didn't otherwise figure this was a scam e-mail, I don't subscribe to any 'cheating website', and my Employer is myself so I feel their threat is pretty generic and they probably don't have anything I would consider 'private' info.  I figured I'd share this with other people here and see if someone better at tracking block chain transactions can do anything to find these guys.

2  Economy / Exchanges / Re: My BitStamp account was hacked few hours ago on: November 03, 2015, 09:59:46 PM
Approximately 3 months ago I had my coinbase, btcjam, cryptsy, and btc-e accounts hacked using similar means.  I don't know if it's the same guys or not, but in my case:

The attackers somehow were able to compromise my e-mail account so they could 'password reset' everything (and tried to cover their tracks by deleting relevant e-mails, but fortunately outlook.com lets you recover deleted e-mails so I saw exactly what they did).  They socially engineered my wireless provider over their customer support chat into allowing them to set up a call forwarding number, which they then tied to a google voice account.  Then they set up an Authy account to bypass the 2FA on coinbase and cryptsy by 'authenticating' themselves using my wireless credentials.

I lost about 4 BTC all told, fortunately most of my BTCjam btc were tied up in investments so they couldn't extract them. But it was a real wake up call.

Your model is completely unsustainable, no hate. I will not be investing.

I disagree, but to each their own.  I've already put up some BTC for fees here.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Do you think getting specialized mining hardware is worth it? on: June 26, 2013, 02:44:57 AM
So I'm a long time bit-coin follower, first time poster.  I've been debating switching off my GPUs and looking into some of the ASIC stuff out there, and I'm wondering if the pay out is likely to be worth the investment.

I don't really care about making money mining, it's a hobby thing for me, if I end up 1 BTC richer at the end of the month I'm happy. But as the GH/s rate of modern ASIC machines threatens to eclipse anything my GPUs can handle I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to order some sort of ASIC device.

I've read all sorts of speculations on the pricing and I'm not looking for advice, I'm looking for opinions? Do you think the investment is worth the risk? What about the break even point? Depending on performance/price it seems that stuff is hovering around 3-9 months, assuming there's no dramatic shift in difficulty.  Is buying an ASIC device to keep mining for you worth it, if bit coin is just a 'hobby' for you?
