Neo explanation and apology:

https://neo.org/blog/details/3037

They say:

"This has been a big weekend for the NEO ecosystem. Firstly, Ontology, a new public platform for distributed trust networks had its sneak peek in Shanghai. Secondly, we revealed a big development contest together with Microsoft China, with big prizes and invitations to NEO DevCon in Silicon Valley. Thirdly, a few members from our largest community organization, City of Zion, released their whitepaper for NEX, a decentralized exchange which we believe adds exceptional value to our ecosystem.
[...]
The “new” thing we wanted to reveal on Monday was the development competition organised with Microsoft and our DevCon in Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, the competition website template was leaked on Friday, removing the element of surprise for the community, and leaving us with an awkward announcement."

The whole blog entry sounds promising.

Neo is much faster than bitcoin. When I send Neo to Bittrex, it is a matter of minutes to deposit on Bittrex. However I don't know how other coins behave in that matter.
Eth is also slower I think.

I think the people expected too much. Some guy twittered about three great announcements, and they all thought it had something to do with china's regulation.
But it hadn't and so they were disappointed, noone knew what the three announcements were and then this culminated into a panic selling.
It was also kind of bad marketing I think.
This was really stupid because there were lots of good news (one is the upcoming DevCon with Microsoft) and not one bad news.
But I see Neo slowly rising again. Imho Neo/Gas is very undervalued now
