Safello och BTCX.
2  Local / Skandinavisk / Re: Sverige ligger efter! on: July 23, 2014, 03:45:48 PM

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shocked At What Alt Coins Are For on: February 02, 2014, 10:00:55 PM
All cryptocoins can be (and are) used for speculation, gambling, scamming etc. If there only was one cryptocoin it could be dismissed as a fad or whatever, but because there now are several somewhat successful cryptocoins the concept is much more difficult to dismiss.
(However the real reason for creating an altcoin is simply because it's possible.)

"at $XXX.XX USD each" is the exchange rate, ie the price of 1BTC at the site. If you've set up you're account correctly you should be able to see how much whatever amount of bitcoin you want will cost you.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I too stupid for Bitcoin? on: December 04, 2013, 03:08:54 PM
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a 1.80 GHz Intel Celeron processor; it runs at ~5%-10% during idle time. How much money can I make if I find a reliable mining program?

Nothing. Forget about mining. You can only profit from mining bitcoin if you use expensive ASIC devices, such as the KnC Jupiter. GPU mining is dead (and CPU even deader). Most people who are interested in bitcoin agree that it's a better investment to just buy some BTC and wait for the price to go up.

Incidentally this is posted on the front page of beeeeer
Code:
Botnets are not welcome. Addresses with a large amount of miners connecting from different
IPs may be suspended without prior notice!

What the hell is beeeer?
beeeeer.org is one of the XPM pools.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How old are you and what brought you into Bitcoin? on: October 16, 2013, 08:01:16 PM
I'm in my mid-twenties. I wanted to use a premium service that was only available through payment with bitcoin or Google wallet. Since GW is incompatible with my banks policies I had to use bitcoin.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What exactly are litecoins? on: October 09, 2013, 08:01:49 PM
I keep hearing about them once and a while but I never see any sites that take them and I dont really understand what purpose they play. Are they just easier to mine?

If you want to make a noticable profit from Bitcoin mining nowadays you'll need to use ASICs. Litcoin (and many other altcoins) can't currently be mined using ASICs or even FPGAs, but can be mined using GPUs, so the purpose is mainly to give formerly BTC-mining GPU rigs something to do. Most altcoins can be exchanged for BTC or fiat. Eventually LTC will be as common as BTC is now, it's just that Bitcoin had a head start.

18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASIC mining. What coins can be mined with this gear? on: August 30, 2013, 08:34:19 AM
trixter lists the following as SHA-256 coins in a thread on the BFL forums:
Bitcoin
PPCoin
Namecoin
Terracoin
Devcoin
Freicoin
Ixcoin

Also i0coin, Zetacoin and Bytecoin use SHA-256.
(as new coins pop up all the time while others die, this list may be incomplete)
