Um, I wouldn't let me kid under the age of 18 use the Internet. You guys are crazy.

Uhm, your parenting ideals are far more stricter than the rest of us. I was using the internet since I was 12. A LARGE majority of the people here are under the age of 21, and I personally think that is a HUGE plus. We have the youngest generation we can get here, and they will carry interest and support for Bitcoin and projects like it for years and years to come. Our generation will also see half of the lifespan for Bitcoin, and we will be able to make sure it works out. Anyone joining in 10 years from now really won't know what they are doing when they suggest changes unless they really look into Bitcoin's history. People joining in 30 years from now may not even care who Satoshi is.

Nice perspective of the future user !  And for kids on the internet, I think it's important that at a young age they learn to use internet.  I'll set up a computer in the living room for my child to access the internet, in this public room.  For sure I'll have a nice linux proxy by wich all internet traffic will go trought, to filter and log.  I'll be able to speak with them about good and bad thing they encounter on the net.

Internet (and Bitcoin) = overall good revolution made worldwide, at a tremendous fast pace !

I would never practice covert surveillance on my child. I think this is unethical.
Also, in any relationship there has to be trust. Those who sow distrust will reap distrust.

The best thing is to talk to the kids and explain why some things in the internet are harmful for them at their age. It may be acceptable to block certain contents for younger children, but never without explaining to them the reasons for doing so.

+1
Censorship and total surveillance are usually not the right tools for education !
Being an overprotective parent isn't a good idea, it will make your child ankward and helpless in the future.

It's normal. Remember that every 10 minutes 25 bitcoins are mined and we had a big price bubble a couple of months ago. The price will stabilize in a couple of months.

Litecoin has faster confirmation times and the total amount of mined litecoins will be 4 times bigger.

The real issue arises after you've sent about 100 transactions without replacing one copy of the wallet.dat with the other.    This problem is due to the way Bitcoin-Qt handles address generation and transaction change.  It won't matter if the blockchain is fully synchronized or not. At that time you'll have exhausted the pre-generated address pool, and you'll start to see extra bitcoins disappear out of the wallets.  The problem can be resolved safely if you are careful and know what you are doing.

I guess the best way to resolve this would be making a new wallet->sending to it all bitcoins from the first wallet->waiting for 6 six confirmations->opening the second wallet.dat and sending the remaining bitcoins to the new wallet

Why would you want to do such a thing anyway?  Is 25 BTC every 10 minutes too much right now for some reason?

I meant after all 21 millions of bitcoins are mined. It would give miners an incentive to mine and would make sure there are always enough coins in circulation.

Wouldn't it be possible to change the protocol to alter the amount of bitcoins mined to 1BTC per block after 21mln?
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: trading fiat for crypto can be a risk to bitcoins future on: July 03, 2013, 01:00:28 AM
It's not a potential threat. If they buy large quantities then the price will simply go up and people would pay with fractions of bitcoin.

3.)It's a good place but you might want to check other exchanges too, other good exchanges are bitstamp, btce and campbx.

13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: July 03, 2013, 12:23:25 AM
I think the only altcoins that have a chance to become popular are litecoins. People might use them for microtransactions.
