I cannot get more than 3 connections in my VirtaCoinPlus 3.0 Client. 

I did a new install, used the ''blk0001.dat'' file and ''txleveldb'' folders from my old client, and place  in the new "VirtacoinPlus" data directory. My client is syncing and is current and up to date. 
I tried adding fresh nodes, and tried the .conf file, but still cannot get more than 3 active connections in my client.
When trying to add nodes by IP I get error, "Method not found (code -32601)". 
Is there an issue with my client? How can I get more connections? It takes a long time to update and stake with only 3 active connections.
