Seeing the other posts I understand that's not the preferred way so what are my other options?

Anyone charging more would be shipping from standing stock (or it's a scam). Most manufacturers charging less to sell directly are backordered a couple months.

the preorders are what I am referring to. im trying to make sure im not missing something before I spend my hard earned money on something and not getting it or getting different hardware than I am expecting.

It's a perosnal choice. Pay $1500 +/- right now direct from Bitmain and wait until late January to get them, or pay 2-3x that now from someome who has one and be mining in 3-5 days. How much is that 1.5 months wait worth it to you? I personally ordered 2 S9 January batch and chose to wait.

PS waiting has not been easy!

I know I don't want to wait but even the preorders on there are 2200 just to order for someone which I don't get lol. I have so many dumb questions but I have been researching bitcoin mining for a while but I have a son its a huge investment

Supply and demand.  There's a limited supply, and very high demand relatively.  That's the case where a miner costs so much more from say fleabay than direct from the manufacturer.
If a seller is offering a miner at a cost much less than the manufacturer does, that's a scam.

I get that if they are sold out but if they are still available...why would you want to spend more? are there people that dumb? they are selling like crazy right now

I have been doing some research on getting some hardware and I don't for the life of me understand how I can buy it for about 1000 cheaper than what is selling for somewhere else??...

Maybe im just ignorant but I really don't understand.
