Hi
Do I need to save only my Electrum seed or will my values be more secure if I also store my private keys on paper? For example, I want to make sure my funds are still available in 5 years from now. What if Electrum by then somehow doesn't exist anymore? Can I access my wallet and funds from another provider using my Electrum seed? Or would another provider only be able to create my wallet with my existing funds if I can provide my private keys?
Sincerely, backthespace
Backup the seed on a couple pieces of laminated paper and you're fine In case electrum ever seizes to exist, you can download the sourcecode of https://iancoleman.io/bip39/, open it on an offline machine, enter the seed and the correct derivation path, and you can derive as many private keys from your seed as you need... Afterwards you can import those keys into most reasonably decent wallets.. Perfect, thanks for the quick and precise answer.

No! Derivation of keys and addresses from the seed is deterministic and it does not require any extra data. It is definitely possible to create an Electrum wallet offline, as well as to restore a wallet from an existing seed. I did that several times.
No, Electrum is an offline wallet with online functionalities, so it woulnd't ask for connection when creating a wallet. Can you give us the source where you downloaded your electrum?
Okay, thank you both. I'm going to try it again tonight when I get home to my offline pc. I am sure I downloaded it from electrums own website, https://electrum.org/#downloadI'll see what happens.

Hi
I want to create a secure Electrum cold storage from an existing seed. I want to create the wallet on an offline computer, but it seems like I need an internet connection to finish the process. It says something along the lines of "to finish creating the wallet, you need an internet connection. Get online or move the wallet-file from an online computer to this computer". I'm following the guideline found on Electrums webpage for creating a cold storage. But it doesn't cover how to go about this issue. Anybody know what to do to create a truly secure cold storage without having to type in my seed on an online computer?
Sincerely
That doesn't sounds right at all. Where did you download Electrum, did you verify the download with the signature file? I'm pretty new with cryptocurrensies. But it makes sense to me that it needs online access. To resolve the seed, i'm guessing it needs access to the blockchain to create the wallet. How else would it translate the seed into a wallet?

Hi guys
Anybody noticed when there's a peak in currency, the 3 cryptocurrencies seems to be synced? Take yesterday. There's a peak at 11800 US dollars and the a steep fall to 10600 $ Same time at day for Litecoins and Ether there's a steep incline and then a decline. Can anybody explain why this is?
Sincerely

Not sure what the error could be, you might have used the wrong public key, or you are using a "Non-deterministic watch-only wallet" when you should use a "Deterministic watch-only wallet", as you stated that you're using electrum. Are you sure you're using your MPK ( Master Public Key) when trying to create a watch-only adress? https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-watch-only-wallet/You solved my problem after all AdolfinWolf. You we're kinda right. I was using the right MPK, but I didn't notice I had 3 cosigners and I needed to import all 3 MPK for all 3 cosigners. Problem solved, thanks again.

I've done as explained in the link you're referring to. I did it twice (including exporting the MPK) with the same result.

Hi all
I've created a wallet, moved some btc to it. Now I've created a cold storage on an offline computer using my seed and manually moved my wallet-file to this computer. The transaction history and btc balance is showing. Then I've exported the public key to an online computer and created a watching only wallet. This wallet is not showing my transaction history and balance. What did I do wrong? I've tried to delete my watching only wallet and recreating it from the public key, but balance and history still isn't showing up. Need help people. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Forgot to mention it's on Electrum v. 3.0.2
