1  Bitcoin / Legal / US Capital Gains - Unknown Sale Price and Date on: March 12, 2022, 02:44:27 PM
Regarding IRS rules in US, calculating capital gains when the purchase price is not known is based on $0 price. However, what is the technique when the purchase price -more exactly, the cost basis-  is known but the sale price and date are not? Let's say that I got 0.01 BTC for $500 in 2021 and I'm sure that I sold it later during the year, but don't know when or for how much. How do I calculate the gain?
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: April 10, 2019, 02:11:56 AM
Why only buy one then?

I don't want to take any more risk.

To cover the import tax and shipping to purchaser I have to push the price pass $3K. I'm betting on the BTC price trend staying bullish to create appeal.

Sold out in 14 minutes. I grab one to resale it. Price is high but with the current bullish-bearing market they may ROI sooner that expected.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Bitmain Announces S15 - 7nm Miner on: November 06, 2018, 03:41:59 AM
Bitmain announced the S15 SHA256 miner with 7nm tech. Available November 8th at 9:00 AM EST (2:00 PM GMT).

Mine is working much more stably now on 230V. While on 115V it threw hw errors at very high rate and lost chips status gradually.
7  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 26, 2018, 12:37:51 AM
Power Consumption after applying LPM firmware:

  • S9 13.5TH/s: -13%
  • S9 13.5TH/s: -3% (This miner has alway been power hungry despite being bought together with the other)
  • S9 14TH/s:    -8%

Hashrate is about the same, maybe a fraction lower. I'd say the power savings make the hash rate loss worth it.

With the winter approaching here in western NY temps will be consistently below freezing and humidity low, which makes the rigs very happy.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex 'Bid/Ask Rate' vs. 'Actual Rate' on: October 25, 2018, 11:19:42 PM
Ok I've finally solved the problem with the Bittrex fees and 8dp truncation etc. BTCBTC
[...]
In summary: Since Bittrex truncates to 8.dp. any calculations taken off Bittrex's unit figures will be incorrect. Better to rely on Bittrex's own reported Price and CommissionPaid fields and work back from there to get unit figures (if you want to see more than 8 d.p).

Thanks for this, following Bittrex numbers my math was not adding up either. I ended up starting off off the amount received in the wallet for the trade and the Units Filled.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer S9 Firmware Update Bitmain Release Overt AsicBoost 🤠 on: October 23, 2018, 02:41:21 AM
My S9 13.5TH/s shows under overview after updating:

Quote
Hardware Version   26.0.1.3
Kernel Version   Linux 3.14.0-xilinx-ge8a2f71-dirty #82 SMP PREEMPT Tue May 16 19:49:53 CST 2017
File System Version   Sun Oct 22 18:20:42 UTC 2018
Logic Version   LPM
BMminer Version   2.0.0

Miner Configuration has a Low Power Mode box checked. I guess this is the AsicBoost mode enabled. The pool shows about 8% higher hashrate compared to a similar miner without AB firmware. Tomorrow will measure power consumption.

I don't see any new firmware for the models mentioned, but for the S9: Antminer-S9-LPM-20181022.tar.gz

I guess this is the Asicboost one?

What frequency are you mining on?

7.4 GH/s (Real Time). Chain #1 has 3 x and chain #2, 2.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 17, 2018, 12:20:12 AM
Yes but I’m not talking about Hw errors showing in the Hw column, my boards are showing some “x” instead of O. Same thing even at 400 frequency so I’m thinking some of the chips are damaged.

About 2 or 3 chips show as "x" on 2 of my boards after and hour or so. The hashrate does not go down by much though. So I'm just letting it be.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 16, 2018, 11:47:06 AM
I received my miner yesterday. I was hoping to overclock but even at the stock 410 I’m getting chip errors on the second and 3rd boards. I contacted bitmain support and their solution is to reduce to 400 and restart several times.  Even if I get the chip errors they say it’s ok as long as it’s stable and no further action is needed. What a load of BS. Brand new unit, ROI is already down the crapper and it can’t even run at the stock frequency.

Some HW errors are normal, but if it's visible affecting the hashrate keep bugging them until they replace the board.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 13, 2018, 09:53:22 PM
Second batch sold out. The model did find buyers.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 03, 2018, 11:52:55 AM
My hashboards generate about 20 HW per minute together and lose one or two chips a few hours after reboot (status becomes "x"). This miner so far is exhibiting the stability of the D3, which wasn't great... at least compared to the S9.

Does anyone have info on the import duty with DHL?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 03, 2018, 12:47:46 AM
Anyone OC these?  I'm at 420 and its 8.05 gh/2

433 mhz its 8.44

Is that a bathroom? Seeing how piled up things are I'd leave at least a fire extinguisher ball in there.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 02, 2018, 03:23:17 AM
Just setup. Everything looks smooth under Miner Status:

Pulling 1487W on an APW3++ @ 18.1C (65F) ambient temp with 65% relative humidity.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: October 01, 2018, 04:31:59 AM
Mine is arriving today. BTW, what pools do you guys have in mind?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the new AntMiner DR3 (Decred ASIC Miner) on: September 23, 2018, 07:42:17 PM
Note that if you use an APW3++ PSU @ 93% efficiency the power usage at the wall will be 1516W.

--Edit:
I realized that's wrong: Advertised 1410W consumption is already measured at the wall.
