1  Other / Off-topic / Any Advice for a New, but Seriously Interested Person in the Bitcoin Community? on: December 03, 2017, 12:04:51 AM
Hey,
My name is Michael and I'm a college student with a small amount of money ($500ish) that I'm in the process of putting into bitcoin and various altcoins as I learn more about them as well as the market itself. Initially I was under the impression that I had missed the real opportunity to make money, but i soon re-evaluated my stance and I firmly believe we are on the cusp of a new generation of currency/banking/payment and it's exciting for a nerdy-minded person like me who loves control.

I've been playing with paper wallets, exchanges, and everything I can find related to cryptocurrency currently. I'm interested if anyone has any advice for a newcomer to the game. Perhaps something you wish you had known when you got into it, aside from the fact the it was going to blow up haha. I seriously want to learn, as I feel like this is, in fact, the future (maybe not always bitcoin, but at least the concept of cryptocurrency in general). I'm not afraid to lose this money that I'm putting in, but I've already seen gains, which is nice.

Currently, I'm using GDAX/Coinbase to buy/store BTC (because transfer fees are killing me), and ExodusEden to hold everything else. If I need some weird altcoin I usually use shapeshift to get it from litecoin because the transfer fees are pretty low. This isn't the best setup but it works for me. If i get to $1000 usd equivalent I'll put some on a paper or hardware wallet.

I put $100 into bitconnect, which I realize is probably a scam. But it's interesting to me. I want to see how long it will keep it up. Even if it is a total scam, the return on $100 is impressive in the short term. Not gonna put anything else into it. I'm just waiting on the day when I get a 404 message for their site.

So basically I've put all of my spendable savings (not emergency) into various forms of crypto. For fun. I don't have time to spend extra money as a student. All of my education is paid on a fixed rate and this is what I have left over so I thought what the heck, let's see what happens  Cheesy

Hopefully we can start a conversation about newcomers to the scene, what you got?
