1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Broken BTC Withdrawals on Gox -- 2230 EST, 28 JAN: 1654 broken TX!! on: February 07, 2014, 01:53:02 AM
I tried withdrawing ~5 btc from Mt.Gox yesterday. It stopped saying the address was invalid (it was giving me that error before when I tried) and took the money out / claimed to process the transaction. That said, over 24 hours later and nothing has shown up on the blockchain. I sent in a support ticket earlier today. I've had my share of problems with Mt.Gox before, so I don't think that my btc is gone for good. While I feel like they're quite incompetent, I don't think they're trying to outright take our money away from us. That said, once I get everything out of there, I'm done with them for the foreseeable future. I know people have been experiencing issues with Coinbase, but it's not nearly as many as with Gox. I've had some success using it so I'll use Coinbase for now.

You make good points (I'd never even thought about porn but it's a good one definitely). However, bitcoin should not be promoted as a currency for these things in my opinion. The idea that bitcoin is the currency of perverts and drug addicts will alienate many possible adopters of the currency. I'm not saying that we should discourage the use of it in these industries, but rather not promote/discuss them because when we do we get the current situation we're in: politicians try to crackdown on it claiming that it's a currency for drugs. Again, I have no problem with the use of bitcoin for these things but I don't think that it belongs in these forums. A third party website, sure, but this is where journalists and pretty much anyone wanting to learn more about bitcoins will come to and form their opinions from.

It's all speculation really. People have been saying for a while now that in just a very short time it would be no longer worth it - yet it continues to be worth it. Which isn't to say it will be worth it for a long time, just that no one really knows or can even make an educated guess. That said, mining will always be borderline profitable at the least. While some people don't have to pay power bills, they are in the minority. So in some sense it will always be worth it (in the scenario that bitcoin remains used) depending on how patient you are.

You should really wait until you can post in the marketplace. Very suggestive that you're a scammer posting like this.

10-20 year wait period just wouldn't work well for the system. Not that I think bitcoin is even close to flawless in principle, but in 10-20 years the price of those bitcoins would be worth a shitload more if the currency was widely adopted.

Wow, this is a pretty poor solution. I'm not really that new I just haven't really posted and right when I wanted to I found out I need 5 posts now even though I didn't before? Lame. I guess here's number 2.

Anyone else having problems logging into the website? I'm mining just fine, but whenever I try to log into the website it says no such account exists. Ugh. Not the first time I've encountered problems with it so I'll be patient.
