1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I use an 'HP elite desk 800 G1' as a miner? on: January 07, 2021, 02:05:28 AM
Thank you so much for your considerate response, I really do appreciate it.

By the sounds of it I may as well keep the integrated PSU to run the MB etc. but just plug all the GPUs into a new, higher-wattage PSU.

I've organised to pick this old PC up, but won't use it until my current new rig is set up. On that, the CPU is being delivered today and is the last piece of the puzzle. I'll be trying Hiveos, so hopefully it all goes smoothly (as much as it can in the land of crypto!).

Ah, I didn't know you could use a splitter like that to increase the number of useable GPUs....

I'm new to mining, just setting up my first rig atm, and saw this old PC, so thought I'd grab it.

Thanks for that.

I'll see if it's still available and take a punt it'll work Smiley

Thanks for the response!

So you don't foresee any issues with the older version of the pcie slots, or the listed configs?

Thanks!

Hi all,

There's a cheap 'HP elite desk 800 G1' near me with some accessories, and I was thinking of grabbing it and using the components from the computer as a mini mining rig.

It comes with an SSD, RAM, monitor etc. so I thought it might be worth getting, however, I don't know if the included PCIe slots are suitable, as they're older v2.0 ones, as follows:

(2) PCI Express x1 (v2.0)
(1) PCI Express x 16 (v2.0 - wired as x4)
(1) PCI Express x16 (v3.0)
(1) Optional PCI (v2.3)

Is anyone able to please advise if these slots are suitable for using risers?

I know that I would have to use a different PSU, but I'd plan to pull the MB (with CPU) and SSD out and put it into a mining frame.

I appreciate any assistance or advice.

Kind regards,

Knightly.

Wow. I joined your Discord and within seconds was inundated by spam messages from scantily-dressed ladies.

Needless to say I left your Discord and will not be back.

No thoughts?
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Will Solaris have its day again? on: April 23, 2018, 05:11:31 AM
Hey all,

I invested in Solaris (XLR) a while back, and early in the year it hit around 360k sats, but now is down to around 80k sats. The are multiple reasons for this, including the market being generally shitty at the moment, but namely due to the team missing a key milestone in the project; as soon as the delay was announced, the price dropped within hours.

A few days ago PoS (staking) was implemented, and Zerocoin protocol, but the price remains the same.

Txbit, the Solaris-funded exchange, is due toward the end of this year, but it's still some time away.

Thoughts?

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good Bye Mining Farms ... Say Hello to Masternodes on: April 23, 2018, 05:07:52 AM
Good points made already, but the biggest downfall, as mentioned, is the fact that you have to have a lot of coins to start a masternode, and it can often be expensive. With PoW (mining), you can mine from zero coins and earn.
Don't get me wrong, I love staking and masternodes, but you do need that collateral to start a masternode off.
The middle ground? PoS, staking. Stake as many coins as you have and earn.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After a Bad Sell on: April 23, 2018, 04:52:53 AM
Hey,

It's a hard one, but guess what, happens to everyone! I know that's no consolation, but just trying to put it in to perspective. This has happened to me so many times I've lost track.

As people have previously mentioned, sell for profit in increments. Even if you set your sell orders in a few blocks (if you really want to liquidate all the asset).

At the end of the day as long as you've made a profit on your original investment, it's all good!

Good luck out there Smiley

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is officially dead on: April 13, 2018, 02:03:15 AM
So many tokens these days are based off the Ethereum platform, so I daresay that unless there's another alternative that those projects can 'easily' transfer to, then there's always going to be a use case for Ethereum.
Yes it has gone up and down constantly, but guess what, everything else has, Bitcoin included. Since post-Christmas, the market has been so volatile, so for the most case, the ups and downs of coins are just natural.

If you're holding ETH and are worried, I'd suggest potentially closing Blockfolio, take a break from the crazy crypto world, and focus your attention elsewhere; it can be healthy!

Good luck!

20  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can one trade without losing?? on: April 13, 2018, 01:59:28 AM
Hey,

My comment is probably superfluous because most people will mention the same thing: You cannot trade (especially day trade) without losing money at some point. Great job to those out there who defy this general logic, but there are so many factors which can alter the outcome of trading:
-News, including FUD;
-Project milestones (wallet releases, platform releases, etc.);
-General amount of people buying/selling; and
-Whales.
(+Sooooooooo much more).

Just do your best, ensure you diversify, trade safe(ish), and good luck!
