Vitalik Calls for Trustless Bridges between ETH and other Crypto
Bridging blockchain’s gaps with hybrix releasing second-layer cross-ledger token next month
In a recent tweet, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin calls for putting resources towards a decentralized exchange system between Ethereum and Bitcoin and between Ethereum and other blockchains[1]. “It’s embarrassing that we still can’t easily move between the two largest crypto ecosystems trustlessly”. Solutions are on their way, as the hundreds of replies indicate. One of several under the radar projects that is on the verge of breakthrough in fixin underlying problems is hybrix. Their token, which will live on a second-layer protocol, sees the light of day next month in May and is expected to bridge the blockchain’s gaps differently.
Bridging blockchain’s gaps is a topic that’s been written about extensively.[2] Last year, Andreas Antonopoulos “articulated why ‘winner takes all’ is out and inter-blockchain communication is in, at the Blockstack Summit in San Francisco.” [3] With projects offering atomic swaps and decentralized exchanges, some bridges have already been built.
An issue, however, with this way of working is that in some situations the bridge has to be built from both ways. If the blockchain supports smart contracts, like Ethereum, atomic swaps are already supported[4]. If there are no atomic swaps (like with Bitcoin), then compatibility needs to be built from the other chain’s side.
In other words, compatibility is built, one project after the other, but there is no singular common compatibility platform yet; no bridge yet to integrate them all. A new solution may be on its way next month and it’s not what many people expect.
Hybrix has announced the release of multi ledger tokens on a second-layer protocol[5]. Multi ledger tokens are tokens that exist on multiple chains at the same time and are argued to be an important innovation for the core functionality of blockchain and distributed ledger protocols. A major advantage over atomic swaps is that the compatibility does not have to be built in; it works on all compatible ledgers.
These multi ledger tokens are a new phenomenon in the scene. Origins can be traced back to Colored Coins. Colored Coins have been a novelty in the Bitcoin scene as they popped up in about 2015[6]. These are a collection of coins that use the metadata of Bitcoin transactions to host instructions for their own currency. The new multi-ledger tokens are tokens that use metadata of multiple blockchains to record transactions of their own currency. The consensus mechanisms of the ‘hijacked’ blockchains validate the transactions of the multi ledger token, which eliminates the need for a new chain.
Hybrix has a history of promoting collaboration between chains. Founder Joachim de Koning explains: ”We see hybrix as a way to connect what’s happening on the isolated networks of existing DLTs and improve decentralization, without giving in on security or usability.”
According to Forrester Research’s 2020 Predictions[7], enterprises utilizing blockchain should switch their focus toward integrating distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) with legacy data systems and ensure they can communicate with other external blockchains. This advice is part of a set of predictions which highlight several upcoming challenges for the nascent electronic ledger technology. The multi ledger tokens are an excellent chance for companies to venture into the realm of interoperability.

where can we see the list of all tokens supported by hybrix? or it can be seen once you installed the wallet? by estimate, what percentage of these 387 tokens are still actively trading in exchanges? and supporting 31 chains, quite a lot actually. But how many are actually using your wallet? can you disclose the approx. number? He is an authority on blockchain and digital security, has advised large US companies on data security and has written hundreds of articles about cryptography, security, distributed ledgers, cloud computing and bitcoin. Several of his talks and works were compiled into a series called the “Internet of Money” which became bestsellers. The non-profit open source project hybrix put out “a sarcasm article which was meant to herald his achievements for the community in an ironic way” as was phrased in a statement on Discord. Although the article was drenched in irony, with quotes like “The company says Antonopoulos should stop promoting the freedom of the Internet and the freedom of money: ‘This is already done by us!’”, some of the irony was lost on its readers. “Suing, blaming and gatekeeping is not the game we play. We are a huge supporter of what Andreas does and of course we’d never sue him. The non-profit project shares the vision of Andreas on freedom, privacy, open source, interoperability and collaboration in this technology age. I use the Internet of Coins wallet. Not only because I work on the project, but also because it's the only one I know that bundles hundreds of coins from all blockchains in one wallet, without too much BS, that lets me keep my own private keys.

It's an interesting about your token platform that can be lives on every chain, in order to do this as far I remember your token must be created on second layer protocol (off-chain) am I right?
The token indeed uses a second layer protocol to make on-chain transactions. By doing this we enable Freedom of Transaction, so you can transact freely over all supported chains. Oh, I still have a wallet with tokens on different blockchains)
I know that there was a snapshot of the old balances, will there be instructions for receiving new tokens?

They are provide web wallet and command line wallet. It's like kaconk said: currently, the wallet and platform is supporting 387 tokens on 31 different chains. You can use the API and library to communicate with these blockchains using one language. Say if you wanted to develop something and communicate to multiple chains, you could use our library for free to do so. To see which assets are supported, you can perform an API call: https://api.hybrix.io/assetAll these assets are also supported by the explorer ( https://explorer.hybrix.io) and by the Internet of Coins wallet, which is using the hybrix platform ( https://wallet.internetofcoins.org). If you are missing certain tokens or coins, you can add them with a pull request and a recipe. An easy guide can be found here: https://internetofcoins.org/blog/easy-steps-to-add-token-support . It's only dated in the way that this links to the old repo. Just do the PR on the hybrix repo. Maybe old tokens with active markets. Though I haven't checked their wallet yet, but there's no reason for them to list old tokens with no market value anymore. They have so many chains supported also. So might be worth checking this one.
edit : I created my web wallet and it is very easy. They will be the one generating your account ID and password. So you should keep it in safe location. Will be exploring the wallet more.
Thanks! When generating a wallet, you will be the one generating the keys. We cannot keep record of any keys, because this is all done deterministically #proofofkeys. All transactions are signed on the client side as well! |

Everything seems fine. But can I ask why the team profile on your website only consists of avatar? Can we know if youre gonna edit it and upload your profile on your social media such ad linkedin or even twitter so we can view whom we are gonna deal for this project.
Good question. If you hover over the avatars, you'll see a picture of the people. LinkedIn will be a nice touch, so will definitely consider By the way, will you run an IEO or any fundraising event for this?
As of now I can't tell. As soon as we know, this would be the place to learn more about it. Also I see that youre going to run a bounty campaign can we ask if youre gonna hired a reputable forum manager or your the one will manage it?
Reputable forum manager would be a nice way to go about it. Any recommendations? i don't follow this project closely, its long time ago. what the connection this project with internet of coins? rebrand or what? i'm one of the early supporter and the holder hybrid (XHY) coin, i just received email about the snapshot information that we will get free HY token for XHY coin holder.
Both share team members and work with interoperability. It's a different system and different way to go about it. I believe a lot will become clear when we can post the whitepaper |

Many distributed ledger technologies (DLTs for short) have been developed in parallel and subsequent to Bitcoin. As a result, multitude of crypto islands and archipelagos have emerged, each with considerable resources invested in both technological development and financial assets. The current HY token is an ERC20 token. The token is a placeholder for the future token, which will be an interoperable token that operates on a second level token protocol. Dotrego is currently involved with the Lisk Center Utrecht, the hub from where we are working. Still in touch with the hybrix team, but not working as a member anymore.
On a different note: we were selected as as one of the most promising early-stage companies in the European blockchain space by Hard Fork / TNW! That means we're going to the Hard Fork Summit in Amsterdam next week!
