1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Capital gains/tax questions. on: April 04, 2018, 10:24:38 PM
you dont need to pay tax because you are not working and it is not a business because what we do is trading,
I was under the impression that converting cryto into any form whether it be other cryptos or fiat was a taxable event subject to capital gains?
Is it still trading when I convert from BTC to FIAT on an exchange?
Is there any area you can point me to in US tax code that explains what you are talking about?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Capital gains/tax questions. on: April 04, 2018, 10:04:11 PM
Background:
I am a college student with an income in the 15% tax bracket.
I am looking to cash out some of btc to pay off student loans, invest some into traditional markets and have some extra disposable income.
That amount I want to cash out is around 100k.
Much of the BTC was purchased in 2012-2013, it was moved around a lot but eventually I  stored it in a tumblers wallet (stupid, I know). I forgot about it up until last June or so when the btc media hype train started popping up everywhere. I moved it to a paper wallet and haven’t touched it since.

On to my question:
1) How would I go about paying taxes, I’m not explicitly sure how much I paid for per coin or how much I bought at each time, which is necessary for calculating capital gains. I was thinking I could look at the transaction history of the deposit address  since it would show the amount sent and the value at that time to give an educated guess but the tumbler generates new deposit address after they are used. Am I allowed to ballpark what I spent on them?

2) I am also a little confused on capital gains. From what o can tell, long term capital gains are taxed in 3 brackets (0%,15%, 20%) that corresponds to your income level. Since I am in the lowest income bracket that implies I pay 0% on my capital gains. But if I sold 100k worth of BTC would that count as income? Because then I would be in the 28% income bracket and have to pay 15% on capital gains. Does that mean I pay double taxes? I get taxed for it as income and taxed for the capital gains? Any help would be appreciated and if you need more information let me know.

Hoping I can get a response or resolution since my post isn't appearing on the changelly subreddit.

I have been shadow banned on their subreddit. I can see my posts but nobody else can. I thought it was just me (even though I had no idea why) but it seems like nobody can post in there anymore. Check "new" nothing in almost 24 hours. You will also notice a lot of comments have been removed, check the comment count of posts and open them up and its just the Changelly response.

I am getting increasingly more concerned, I currently have almost 1 BTC worth of Ripple in their system. They seem to have gone dark.

I have sent messages to their support and every other means of communication possible. I just want my Ripple returned.... my transaction id is 63bddfaaa9a6.

The mod stickied that comments will be disabled on the subreddit a few hours. Could you Let me know if you get a response from them? I can't tell if they're support is overload or if I'm getting scammed.

I'm with squal on this and the price seems very high. I understand if you're firm on your price then there's no point in negotiating. If you are open to negotiate pm me or reply here since I am interested. Just not at the price you are asking.

Hi changelly,
Hoping I can get a response or resolution since my post isn't appearing on the changelly subreddit and I keep getting stock "btc network is overloaded response" from the ticket when that isn't my issue. I opened a trade to exchange eth to BTC about 2 days ago. The transaction is #eaa4e24a0074 and the eth tx is here (0x8d7e4bae929054accf841976176551aa1753da1c73fe157835c1f18b9d76c324). My transaction was confirmed, exchanged and had been stuck in the sending to wallet phase for around 24 hours. I opened a support ticket and was given the generic "block chain is overloaded, please wait" response. The thing is, this isn't an issue of lack of confirmations, my transaction hasn't even been broadcasted on the blockchain. It is not in the mempool/an unconfirmed transaction as your support stated (my wallet shows no unconfirmed balance: https://blockchain.info/address/16HZ7cdyZJ8yJYspqtBVFfPgJJNcV1quw9). Its as if it was never sent. It has now been 36 hours and went I go to check my account history in case it had been sent. Now your page says the trade has was completed instead of "sending to wallet" and references the following output hash (409165e63484e210ab679a93a3a9871db75ed099bd866b1f989f5992c815fbaf). When I check the blockchain for that hash it says it doesn't exist and my wallet still doesn't show any confirmed or unconfirmed transactions. I would like the 63 ETH refunded since I never intended to hold btc this long or the BTC returned. Below I have linked a photo of the transaction history. Until this is resolved I cannot recommend using changelly.

Look at the overall rate of 159THs @ $3.5 per TH = $556 per day = $16,695.00 per month Gross Profitability

 $16,695.00 Gross
-$ 1,500.00 Hosting Fees
$15,195 Net Profit per month

$50,000 Purchase Price / $15,195 = 3.29 month ROI

Solid Machines with a Great Profitability.

I get the math, but it relies on the assumption that all the machines will last over 3 months. Given some of their current hash rates it doesn't look like that's likely (unless they are being underclocked). So it seems like a far better investment to hold btc unless you are willing to negotiate on the price.

These are very good machines that are well maintained with profitability still on them.

If they are as good as you say, Can you make a 3 month guarantee on their life?

Is this an all 15 miners or nothing deal? Will I be signing or assuming your hosting contract (month to month, 3, 6 12 month, etc) with the hosting facility. Do you have a general age range for the miners, some of them are hashing fairly low (depending on batch number < 50% below), just trying to determine how much life are in them. Out of curiousity why are you selling them? Im assuming you've reached your ROI, do you just need liquidity? Given the huge increases in price it seems much more profitable to let them run.

All of them at once for the sale.

Selling them because I need some Christmas Money.

All ages from 1.5 yrs to just a few months old.

Given the age of the units, and the overall low average hash rate. Would you be interested in doing 22.5-27.5k for all 15? Paying over double Bitmains price on units where some are hashing almost 50% below optimal rate (on average ~19% lower) seems a bit to expensive. Even if you factor shipping, setup and free December hosting.

10.6THs average per unit is how to say not the best... plus the 3333usd per unit... considering the fact that some of them are on the brink of dying?

does this include hosting / power / service etc?

50K for everything (Miner and PSU and Hosted)  Hosting does cost $100 per unit paid through the end of this month.  They are very strong units ready to mine for you.

i would't call 8.3 THs S9 strong unit but ok..
so hosting fee of 100 usd has to be paid monthly per unit? or? i got confused sorry

"Hosting does cost $100 per unit paid through the end of this month."

It looks like this month is paid for (December). And at the end of this month the buyer will have to start paying the hosting fees.
thanks.
so its almost 11 cents/kw ..

Yea it's not really worth it imo since they are used, the average hashrate is fairly low, electrical rates not being optimal, and moving them to another faculty would require physical pickup. Especially seeing as there are threads with people selling new units for ~3500, eastshore sell theirs for ~3700, etc. I would consider it if he halved the price.

who is this eastshore you always talk about?
Reseller. Looks like they upped their prices by 100.

https://www.eastshore.xyz/

any expericence with them? there are many reselling sites out there and 99% are scam. not saying these are as well just stating the market status.
seems they just matched my prices haha Cheesy
No personal exerience with them so I can't vouch, but ive seen reputable forum members vouch for them (HagssFIN, bittawn, etc) and a bunch of other full members and members. If you do a search there's a few threads. And yea I waited to long and they upped the price around the ATH last week. Not sure if I should aimlessly keep looking for a better deal that probably doesn't exist or pull the trigger on the 20 units.

Where are you located and do you accept escrow ?

If you're interested in selling S9's at the price he was looking 2000-2666 a unit. I'd be looking to pick up around 22+ units. I would only deal in escrow.

Located ?

Northwest United States. Are the units new or used? What batch month/year are they.
Since my accounts new, I won't be able to respond to any messages until tomorrow since I have hit the max.

If you're still interested and looking to buy some units leave me your skype to talk about it on PM. Thanks  Smiley

One other point of clarification. Am I purchasing these units to own? Or am I just leasing them? Just saw the LLC  in your signature and wanted to clarify.
