1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would a Bitcoin world look like? on: June 14, 2011, 02:48:50 AM
Bitcoin may have the ability to turn the world upside down, or it may just fill a niche in the global economy. I think Bitcoin's impact will be exactly proportional to the level of actual financial oppression there is in the world.

Does that thought make any sense?

If the world of big money really is using the system to "enslave" the common person, then Bitcoin could be the tool needed to break society free, making money a democratic system rather than an authoritarian one.

If instead, the money leaders of the world have actually been keeping our best interest at heart, then I envision no revolution, just a truly brilliant form of money, easy to move internationally (among many other benefits).

Would I be a user of bitcoin if it was made illegal? Yes. The Bitcoin project has struck so many chords with me.

That said, more people need to start accepting bitcoins for goods and services before it truly becomes a useful currency.

This is my ideal way to work with bitcoin:

1) Earn bicoins by working for them (not buying or mining)
     a) accept modest pay cuts over time because bicoin is deflationary.

2) Pay for my stuff in bitcoins
     a) expect prices to drop over time because bitcoin is deflationary.

3) Repeat step 1
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Solution: How to shift the decimal on: June 09, 2011, 03:24:57 PM
I love the idea of the client giving you the option of working with bitcoin in BTC or μBTC.

I would want to reference μBTC with the prefix and never drop the μ.

BTW, It does bug me a little when I see people use a (u) instead of a (μ), but it is not a big deal. Micro is micro.

I could just see the financial news one evening saying: "the DOWJONES industrial average ended the day a 'littlebit' higher today, but this is still down from 'quiteabit' yesterday.

The world has never seen a currency that was divisible further than .01. This is actually a very interesting issue to me. Here is a few that may work.

0 decimal place - 1 - Bitcoin - BTC

3 decimal place - .001 - Token - mBTC

6 Decimal place - .000001 - Tidbit - µBTC

8 decimal place - .00000001 - Waif - wBTC

Waif is a word for stray or single. I thought it would be appropriate for the smallest denomination of bitcoin.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Currency Symbol ฿ on: May 21, 2011, 04:00:12 AM
I think that it would be poetic for this open-sourced, grass roots, peer to peer currency to not have an offical currency symbol.

I do beleive that over time, the ฿ and the BTC will become the defacto symbols due to their prolific use.

I like to keep an open mind though, so I went ahead and designed a new one in MS Paint and attached it to this reply.
