Is hyperdex built ontop of barterdex? As in is barterdex a requirement, or does it replace barterdex as the interface to the protocol, marketmaker etc?

Good job guys. Komodo team is the James Brown of crypto, ie: hardest working team in the business.

LookieHere Komodo got soul! (Said in best James Brown voice)

The Power of Repositioning

https://www.reddit.com/r/komodoplatform/comments/8ivy26/marketing_the_power_of_repositioning/

It is not enough to define what we have; we will also have to explain what is the problem we seek to fix.

-snip-

What is 'positioning'?
It means how people conceive something in their head. Like on the example above, people generally thought all vodka they bought came from Russia. The one brand that genuinely had Russian vodka had to first destroy the image in the minds of the consumers that had made them believe all Vodka is Russian vodka.

Here's a simple definition I found:

A marketing strategy that aims to make a brand occupy a distinct position, relative to competing brands, in the mind of the customer.

Case of Komodo
While keeping in mind the point of my last post about Komodo not being a platform; we could seek to reposition the problems of platform's in general and then go ahead and explain how Komodo fixes these commonly known issues.

Most blockchain projects today develop on top of public platforms that cause many undesired consequences:
Stagnant development
Platform lock-downs
Scalability challenges
With Komodo, you don't have to compromise. Get the same benefits any other platform provides while hosting your infrastructure.

or perhaps we could boil it down to:

On Komodo we share technology - not infrastructure.
What do you think?
We are in the middle of a re-brand process, and we would love to hear your ideas. I would like to launch the Komodo 2.0 with a bang that addresses these core problems our projects addresses.

P.S. the rebrand is not purely about marketing fluff, we are trying to get at the bottom of it what we have to offer, and how we effectively communicate that. Once we have things crystal clear, we can better prioritise what we do and shoot for the stars.

It's a funny thing, but I do believe the world will give you everything you want - you will have to know exactly what it is and take it.

This is excellent. We should all brainstorm on this concept.

Problem Bitcoin is slow and doesnt scale
Solution kmd is fast and scales

Problem Bitcoin fees are expensive
Solution kmd is cheap

Problem Bitcoin not private
Solution kmd is private

Problem bitcoin offers less
Solution kmd offers more, you deserve more from your blockchain experience
Why get less from your block chain experience when you can get more?

Problem if you build a city you don't construct every building on top of each other. placing building after building on top can cause structural issues
Solution build next to each other like a normal city, build community not structural issues.

Problem, bitcoin is old and hard to use
Solution kmd is new and easy to use

Problem bitcoin is limited, cant do it
Solution kmd can do that. We can do that! The blockchain with it.

Problem bitcoin has no kitties
Solution kmd has more kitties per transaction than...

-off the top of my head-

Maybe simple nicknames could help especially if they sound similar to already marketed products. k-chain instead of kmd. Or K-chains to describe the unlimited chains you create. Kmart, k street, special k, k cups

Slogans -Blockchain in a box.
Blockchain out of the box
Blockchain un-chained
A blockchain made for the people
A blockchain for you and I
Blockchains made simple
Blockchain city

-most important - stoking community support, people want to join the winning team
I also want to add that we should engage as many people as possible to help with marketing accross all social platofrms. Restart sig campaigns, create contests for the best video, and or tweet, and or instagram post, and or facebook post. Let people earn or chance to earn a little bit while blasting the message accross all social platforms.

All of us in the outter rings of the komodo community can do simple things. Help us celebrate the successes of this platform blockchain city. We should be having a virtual party about completing the first 100,000 swaps. A virtual party for the upcoming smart contracts. A virtual party to celebrste the beginings of the dico.

Ill even put my money where my mouth is and donate 100 kmd for community celebrations/ social media marketing blasts/games

Edit. Dare I say it

Wow, stiff competition in the AR region. Meshbits just got knocked off. I voted for you meshbits, and even if you don't make it, I definitely appreciate everything you have done so far.

And at this point, I wish he Would leave un-safechain at 1 trillion difficulty.

Is the voting based on regions this time, are there still going to be 16 NN in each region?

I can see a scenario where a candidate gets enough VOTES to be in the top 30 in the election, but they are in a sort after region with many candidates, and they don't win one of the available places to make up the 16 from their region. What would happen in that situation? Would they get option to move to another region?
We wont be enforcing it directly, but the limit of one node per region will prevent getting too imbalanced. Also, unlike last year where there were no pre-existing notaries and it wouldnt have been good to have them all clustered, this year half the notaries are in place already and pretty spread out, so we will let the elections decide where exactly the nodes end up

That makes sense, good decision! If an imbalance in the regions does occur you could always give a slight advantage to candidates running in that region next election to compensate, get more high quality candidates running in that region.
Yes, and if anything this way the geographic distribution will likely more correlate to the userbase locations.

Of course if we end up without any nodes in a region where there should be, we will fix that in the following election.

By only electing for the bottom half, we preserve the top half each year and it provides the stability to the notarizations, while still allowing anybody with skills to get a notary node spot. There is no need to have a large stake, or lots of mining hardware or even lots of money. We need notary operators that can manage the servers, using unix command line, making docker images, bash scripts, or are even full stack devs and all the technical work that goes into running a network.

I want to discourage votes for candidates without a solid technical background as they wont be able to help at all if there are technical issues and that is the role of a notary operator.

So assuming that a candidate has sufficient technical skills, ie. would you ask them to help you out with a shell script that isnt quite working right, the the secondary factors would serve as a tie break for your VOTE2018

Keep in mind some candidates already have one (or more) in the top half and already are notary operators. Many are also KMD team members. These can be viewed as either an advantage or a disadvantage, there is no agreement internally on which it is. So we are taking the position of disclosing all such pre-existing relationships and letting the voters decide what is and isnt important

geopreference: it turns out that there is a simple way to balance the geo-regions. basically just go down the richlist until you find a candidate in that region. So by picking an unpopular region, it might give an advantage

Im a little confused about how many nodes are up for election in any given region

How do we see vote totals?

Since some are running in multiple places it would be great to see how much support they are getting in the various areas.

Several of the candidates have truly helped the platform. A big thank you goes out to you guys. I won't name names in case I forget anyone.

In an effort to be thorough, can those who are running please post if you are running for a second , or third node. I don't want to exclude anyone who is going above and beyond however there are alot of great candidates and I want to include as many as possible.

Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a friend with an old nxt wallet with balance. They want to claim their ardor and ignis. Is there some instructions anywhere for this? What are the basic steps?

Thanks in advance.

On a linux system, when updating to new versions of barterdex and or agama, is there anything that I need to be aware of? Ie: is there an uninstall protocol?

In respect to price. It seems that currently ALL crypto , or atleast the top 100, are acting like 1 large asset class. So it makes no sense to critcize drops when everything rises and falls together to some extent. In fact crypto prices are known for being choppy, so price critics, especially about the short term, really come off as being morons.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: February 24, 2018, 11:24:09 PM

Can't say Im surprised, anytime there is a massive delay, the writing is usually on the wall.

I guess monaize has zero interest in a fair "whale proof" distribution and will simply release the old fashioned way of, oops we sold out in 30 seconds now buy from the whale at 10x the price.

Too bad barterdex can't limit what coins can be exchanged for other coins. In this scenario monaize could issue a temporary trading coin on their platform that would then be used to obtain monaize coin on barterdex in a very fair distribution manner.

Well, I hope atleast monaize paid komodo team for all the help setting up their business plan.

I'm not much surprised either, but they should have communicated better during this time.

I'm happy they will continue to experiment with Komodo for their banking and blockchain stuff, there could be some interesting applications born out of it, especially after Komodo gets smart contracts.

I also hope they have plans for fiat gateway to crypto

Actually after thinking about this, the barterdex as is would still provide a perfectly fair distribution model. An ico, monaize in this example, can still follow AML  and vet their investors. Sell them a temp ico token with offer to redeem unspent tokens. Then use barterdex to trade for monaize ico tokens. The barterdex orderbook will have already been populated with temp token/ monaize utxo pairs. Only vetted investors will have the temp tokens so nobody else can buy as temp/ monaize pair is the only market. Monaize mentioned that they will still trade on barterdex so once an investor gets his monaize they are free to create their own pair.

End result is a fair distribution that is instantly tradeable on barterdex.

Agama and barterdex were easy to install. However the extra hoops created by the team for my free beer have been the issue. Slack crashed my CPU twice while trying to jump through your hoops. Lol, grrrrr.

Due to a vid card that has gone bad on my desktop, I decided to use Ubuntu as live Linux on my laptop. So of course a crash and reboot  deleted my beer wallet.dat, And I'm back to square one.

I know agama and barterdex weren't designed to work like this, so it's really awesome that they do. I'll try again when off work, I nearly had it last night, but I'm shaking my fist at slack.

Bummer, I missed the first pizza party. Congrats to the team, I like how you are giving away test tokens for practice, brilliant. Maybe allowing people a week to get their beer locked and loaded would produce a larger participant pool. Too bad its only available on slack, but still, what you are doing is super cool.

Centralized exchanges all have a web interface. People are used to this.

Barterdex should have a web interface, I think most would pay a little extra to be able use it in this manner.

I have watched this video a few times.

https://www.reddit.com/r/komodoplatform/comments/7p5yup/barterdex_083rc_walkthrough_continues_trading/

I was wondering if someone could explain a few nuances of liquidity making.

Ie: best use practices, what margins work best, best sized utxos, best sized buys sells, the people that ARE most succesful -what are they doing, what is the best market currently, etc

Thank you

It would be nice if i can figure out how to install the agama wallet on linux.

Downloaded the agama .run file but nothing happens .
I'm searching at this moment for a solution ,but seems there's no guide for linux and the terminal gave me a " Syntax error: "(" unexpected " -error

To install .run programs on Linux use the following commands:

Code:
chmod +x AgamaApp-xxxx.run

sudo ./AgamaApp-xxxx.run

But there is an issue for some users where nothing happens at all, this happened to me as well and it's not yet clear which  missing package is the culprit. It is reported that using a .deb installer works, but I don't know where to find a .deb installer for the latest version. Try asking to support on the website form!

I downloaded agama from https://komodoplatform.com/en/downloads

The above commands work just fine to load and run agama in the current live linux mint !!!

Question1 .
Why is there no litemode for ltc or bch?

Question 2. Am I correct in that I only need to keep my seed backup in order to repeat use agama in litemode? Obviously I'd rather run a live linux cd and use agama in litemode. (install time was only about 20 min, most of the time was dl the zerocash params)

edit. I really like the icon for agama. looks really nice.

So is there any kind of market in Agama or any other exchange for the REVS tokens?    If so, what kind of market price are they currently trading at?

this :  http://atomicexplorer.com:8111/

has tons of info on what is trading and for how much.

Over Christmas  REVS could be sold to "Santa" for  1.953 KMD  while at the same time you could buy REVS for 0.6 KMD each.

Santa was buying DEX as well and the prices were too good to print (basically you get DEX for free after two trades)...

I think we have JL777 to thank for these diamonds hidden in BarterDEX.  Folks really need to get on BarterDEX. Who knows what diamonds you could uncover?

This is most triumphant.

What are the zcredits, age, ave vol, and utxos under dex books. (I understand what utxo is, but if it says 4, what does that mean?)

Basically can someone eli5 the dex books page.

There is #tradebots & #support channel if you need help with BarterDEX. How did you run BarterDEX on Ubuntu?

Install Instructions (latest from source):
Code:
install github-windows: https://git-for-windows.github.io/
install github-linux: sudo apt-get install git
install nodejs: https://nodejs.org/en/download/

Open a console
Code:
git clone https://github.com/KomodoPlatform/BarterDEX.git
cd barterDEX
git checkout v0.7
npm install
npm start

For further support and info please check #tradebots channel in SuperNET slack.

Thank you for the help. I am pleased to say that I got it to install in the current ubuntu 16.04.3 lts and it also installed as live linux ubuntu, VERY COOL!

Here is the script that worked for me hopefully this helps someone. Open the terminal in ubuntu then input these  (hit Y when asked)
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install curl
curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_8.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/KomodoPlatform/BarterDEX.git
cd barterDEX
git checkout v0.7
npm install
npm start

Everything looks great (for this version), I look forward to making my first trade. So stoked!

Using ubuntu 16.04.3

I downloaded from

https://github.com/SuperNETorg/BarterDEX/releases/tag/0.7.3-beta

Unzipped then doubleclicked on the file BarterDEX, this did not load anything for me.
