I think Bitcoin will always be a sort of "Gold 2.0". Even with systems like Lightning to make transactions cheap and fast people will still hoard/hodl. Crypto won't go away either, it will have it's own niche as a store of value and alternative currency, but right now it needs fiat to survive and I see them being co-dependent on eachother for a while.

Well damn! I just read through the first couple pages and I salute all the folks that had so much confidence in Bitcoin 6 or 7 years ago already  Grin

I remember reading about BTC when it first came out, a new digital currency that you could mine on your laptop or PC by solving these complicated algorithms etc etc. I was skeptical, and what little I read about it was so technical and foreign to me at the time that I just sort of dismissed it for the time being.

But it kept popping up in the news now and then, and I saw the price steadily climbing over the first few years. Then the price tanked after Mt. Gox and I figured it was a good time to buy in. So I opened a Coinbase account, and bought a little every couple of weeks.

It's been fun watching the price go up, but its even more fun to see what the potential of this technology will be. All of the sudden, it's not just all the old money bankers and oil dinosaurs with all the wealth, now the tech and crypto geeks have some money to play with Smiley
