2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinChoose - alternative site to show respective profitability of the alt coins on: September 19, 2013, 09:53:47 AM
Did you click on "LTC Profitability" on the top?  Try it.

No that's not what I'm talking about.

You responded to tell me "Try it" with the exact example of the problem I had just described is broken ...

You didn't understand my post at all.

You were supposed to say "Ah, I see how the LTC Profitability page does not work."

Are you stupid or are you stupid?  If LTC is on top which it frequently has been the past few days, of course other coins are gonna show less than 100%.  If you're comparing alt coin value relative to LTC, the LTC page does exactly that.

http://coinchoose.com/litecoin.php

Currently Florin is at 124.87% while AndroidTokens is at 124.02% relative to LTC.  Do I need to calculate the percentage for you as well?  Or can you deal with deducting 100 from the % value of other coins above Litecoin?

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so whats happening with litecoin? on: September 17, 2013, 04:06:10 AM
is the price just a wait to dump on box? will it go up? i feel like its only a matter of time until more and more services start accepting litecoin since they already have the infrastructure.

The main drawback for litecoin is its name.

It is reminiscent of a lite beer or a lighter version of something bigger and better. Your point about the infrastructure is spot on. What is going to happen is a few of these alts will eventually become noticed and adopted by the masses. Then the existing bitcoin infrastructure will be modified to accept these newly popular alts. However, history shows that it will be difficult to predict which ones will be the winners since technical fundamentals will have less impact on acceptance than name. Think of early windows, a horrendous mess of an operating system from a technical standpoint, but a consumer grand slam in terms of sales and popularity.

I think litecoin may become widely successful, but it will first have to overcome its image somehow of being the "light version" of something better.

There you go again, getting hung up on what a coin is called.  At least this time you didn't go on and on about goldcoin.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fundamental error in coin-profitability sites/calculations? on: September 13, 2013, 01:52:45 AM
I hate GPU mining now too, scrypt might be worth playing with once FPGAs for it come out but for example I bought a 7950 from NewEgg, put it into a machine, something went flash when I actually tried to mine with it even before messing with clocks etc, and that machine now no longer works.

I put it into a second machine, mined for maybe a week or two, then there was a frying circuits smell (ozone probably I guess) and the machine went dead.

Each time I put that card in, the ozone smell happens and the machine will not boot. Luckily the machine still does at least still work without that card in it.

Now having to look into how to RMA the thing to NewEgg.

Even the GPUs that work none of them produce the same number of KHashes on scrypt as they do MHashes for SHA256, which the profitability sites seem to imagine they should. I get about 255 Khashes on 5870's that give me 405 MHashes on SHA256. I suspect scrypt is just a less efficient system than SHA256 intrinsically.

FPGAs aren't necessarily all that great either, out of a stack of twelve it was only weeks before two of them died, and the cost of sending them in to be fixed cannot really be justified as they are so close to obsolete already and were already even when I bought them. They, and the block eruptors I bought since, are/were mostly just a stopgap measure to be able to grab up some merged mined coins before they go onto major pools and thence onto exchanges whereupon like the merged mined coins you can merged mine at bitparking they would skyrocket in difficulty beyond what a couple of 5870's could really hope to rake in easily.

So yeah, just buying coins is looking pretty good, though I still hope a KNC Saturn might arrive in time to pay for itself even if K16s don't.

You're forgetting that Scrypt is VERY memory intensive, and for GPU BTC mining the most efficient way is to downclock your memory, which should never happen with Scrypt, so it's a config problem not a algo efficiency issue.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looks like Mt Gox is being DDOS'd on: September 11, 2013, 02:24:44 AM
No idea why so many Gox threads exist in the Alt Currency forum when there's not a single other coin except Bitcoin on there...
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which 7950 GPU is a better option for Mining? on: September 10, 2013, 01:11:48 PM
MSI Frozr and Sapphire Vapor-X are by far the best cards for mining.  Tonnes of people use it, there's 0.962v BIOSs for both, and since many people have them there is always help provided with these cards.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] profit switching auto-exchanging pool - middlecoin.com on: September 09, 2013, 01:55:04 AM
I posted something on this earlier today, not response, but am a bit concerned. Been a long time user of this pool and built tools to support it. Today has been a concern to me and need help understanding the why or may opt to jump ship if I can't explain it. I am running 4 MH/s of hashing power. All day pulling in about 420 shares an hour consistently with low rejects. Very low. Like 8 or so right now and not far off from that all day except a couple times. Around 3:30pm CST I was at .061 BTC with a bit over .025 BTC immature and .01ish unexchanged. It's now 9:15PM CST and at .068 BTC and around the same level of immature and unexchanged as 3:30. You can't tell me that for almost 6 hours I got .007 BTC and no, there isn't a bunch sitting in immature. Any explanation what's going on?

I think we were mining LTC then, so it may be the case that we just didn't get many blocks during that time. I'm not really sure.

Proxy the pool into wemineltc and wemineftc (for LTC/FTC) to reduce variance.

If that could be done stellar.

I know this has been suggested before but doesn't seem to be acknowledged. With this pools low hash rate, if LTC was the issue, we shouldn't be anywhere near that coin. Difficulty is to high for middlecoin by itself. Wemineltc has 7 times the hash rate and I have many hours where they don't find a block.

JR

WemineLTC has never had 1 hour blocks for a very very very long time...
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin Price to hit $25? on: September 06, 2013, 04:57:24 AM
litecoin is  the second largest currency because it has a good and stable def team. thats the reason its successfull.

Exactly, who is the dev team again?

Warren Togami, the founder of the Fedora Linux distro is leading LTC development.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC coming to Gox? on: September 05, 2013, 01:52:52 AM

My 3x 7970's are getting about 1x LTC per day which was worth about $2. That's about the energy it costs to create them... so they're no over priced. Miners need to make money.

If your THREE 7970's are giving you 1LTC per day... You're doing something horribly wrong.  2 7950's give me 1.3LTC a day...
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin Price to hit $25? on: September 04, 2013, 08:44:36 AM

The question is why a website should use litecoin instead of bitcoin !?

Who says it has to be Litecoin instead of Bitcoin?  Why not both?  Why not Zoidberg?

ok, both. then the question is, why an end-user should convert his USD to litecoin and spend it instead of bitcoin ?!

Why convert at all if you have USD? Tongue  Just buy it with USD.  If it ONLY accepts crypto, well then that's a different story.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Android wallets for alt-coins on: September 04, 2013, 07:07:57 AM
There are already two coin apps: Bitcoin and Litecoin.  Copy/Paste and Find/Replace is much harder on these Apps than it is on with the QT source, but it can be done.  That is probably why only a few alt coins have apps now.

Do not use the LTC one.

1) It IS an ex BTC miner.
Correct, and it is an ASIC for Scrypt. And he still mines BTC too.

What...  He's an ex BTC GPU miner...
