1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: November 28, 2013, 12:14:04 AM
Looking at the price of an individual coin is a silly way to look at things. Look at the overall market capitalisation vs bitcoin and you will see the room for growth.
That would be true if they were direct competitors like Litecoin.  They are not.  They work together.  However, Mastercoin will carry far more functionality than bitcoin.  Mastercoin will finally far exceed bitcoin in value.  Although bitcoin will always operate as the 'currency' portion of the system.  Mastercoin will serve other parts = many other parts.

'overall market cap' could be compared if these two served the same purpose.  They don't.  Mastercoin will perform a different function than bitcoin.  It won't replace it as a currency.  If it were a currency replacement (as Litecoin is) then this comparison might be interesting.  Mastercoin operates to enhance bitcoin - not replace it.  Litecoin attempts to replace it with some added differentiating features (not very interesting).  Mastercoin is not an altcoin.

Mastercoin is not an altcoin.   Mastercoin is not an altcoin.  Mastercoin is not an altcoin.
Say it a few times if it makes you more comfortable.

Ain't he though? Maxmint + Pouncer is faster than Gox's trading engine. Do we even need a DEx?
True fact.

The thing that perplexes me about Mastercoin....
You are certainly perplexed.

its price is so high relative to other altcoins,
this is the reason you are perplexed.

Doesn't seem to have much room to grow, unless people expect it to become worth 1 BTC or above.
Mastercoin IS bitcoin - but on steroids.  It is not an alternative coin.

Is the intention that Mastercoin will become the new standard version of Bitcoin
No.  That implies that Mastercoin should 'replace' bitcoin.  Mastercoin does not.  Mastercoin simply operates in conjunction with bitcion.  It doesn't replace or 'better' bitcoin at all.  Bitcoin stands alone.  Mastercoin helps it be better.

1 MSC and 1 BTC be expected to equalize when that happens?
Probably not.  MSC will be a better more versatile vehicle than bitcoin which is merely a currency with an impenetrable ledger.  Mastercoin is many things - with the same impenetrable ledger.  Many things includes: securities; bets; contracts; smart properties; and a bunch of stuff we haven't fully put forth yet.

but the Mastercoin concept seems a lot more complex than altcoins
I don't think it is 'more complex' - but it is much more interesting, powerful and versatile.  Probably a many other things too.

For these reasons, among others, look for MSC to be greater than BTC in value in about 3 months.

Well, we all know that it is almost impossible. The troubling part here is the "almost".
These are the same people who believe they can win the lottery - 35 times in a row.

OMG!  BTC:1044$! Shocked

Good buying opportunity.  I like it.

Another point is that an invoice would be good (and is necessary by law)
F-ing Germans.  Nobody has time to set-up a fully legal operation - bitcoin is moving too fast to worry about details.
8  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin broke $1000 USD today on: November 27, 2013, 03:07:24 PM
Wow!  Already at $1000!!!  This is crazy.  I expected it to occur at the end of December at the very earliest.  Good to have bought at $70!
Huge crash coming soon!  Sell!!
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: $ 1.000 on: November 27, 2013, 03:00:49 PM
Uncork the bottles! Happy $ 1.000 to everyone!  Cheesy

His post was late.  See my earlier post.  Smiley

I have not seen anyone take issue with JR's decision to keep his full-time job until he is able to make a certain profit on his Mastercoin, presumably because he has a family to support.

Hire full-time developers now!
Three months ago, this was a real concern.  JR couldn't quit his job for security.  Now, his resume is very much improved with the advent of Mastercoin.  His next job is going to be real easy to find.

and then run the PR campaign to put it into the media.
How's that PR campaign going anyway?  Did we see any measurable results for our $6000/wk?  Or did that money just disappear?

No buyers.  No sellers.  Slow day today.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 17, 2013, 03:18:41 PM
I am so sad that the contest isn't going to fairly compensate everyone for their work, but I'm really pumped that so many people are excited to contribute!
J.R. - I don't think you have a good read on these people.  They are all going to be fairly compensated.  Their compensation comes in producing fine results on a very interesting project.  Probably very few people are in this for the money.

Don't spend another second being 'so sad that...' - your efforts to keep the project healthy and going down a good path are all they need as compensation to work hard.  Your organization of the project assures their efforts are not wasted.  It is a perfect synergy.  Forget about $$$, BTC, or MSC.  Building something cool is far more rewarding than having a pocket full of money.
However, hot chicks tend not to agree with that I suspect.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 16, 2013, 06:30:41 PM
I'm sorry but this pisses me off beyond believe.
Believe me, I know how you feel. This project has forced me to thicken up my skin
Chill!  This is VERY explainable.  Some of these guys really know a ton about bitcoin and how it works.  They are all very seriously pissed that Mastercoin - albeit not perfectly elegant - is a damn cool idea that they didn't think about.  Further, and this is the very hard part - now Mastercoin is very well funded.  These guys think they are far above Mastercoin technically and they are furious that they didn't find a way to raise $500,000 to advance their concepts.  Rather than help Mastercoin, they are going to beat it down from every angle - and try to take money away while Mastercoin grows.  Open source projects get F'd everytime by ego.
Press on.  You don't need them.  You'll find your way clear of these minor obstacles and very soon will be far passed all their pussy fussing.  You don't need their inputs.  Their inputs are corrupt.

16  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Is Mastercoin bloating the blockchain and what we can do about it? on: September 13, 2013, 10:25:07 PM

GMaxwell, I hope you enjoy your 3 BTC I sent you, courtesy of d'aniel.

$450 to a dick?  We need to save the funds better than this.  I hope his contribution was valuable.  Just because the projects wallet is fat, doesn't mean you have to throw the money around unnecessarily.

Did you know that people consume about 20% more shampoo when their shampoo bottle is full?  No need sending BTC to dicks unless their help was a good improvement for the project.

17  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Is Mastercoin bloating the blockchain and what we can do about it? on: September 13, 2013, 09:42:20 PM
Hey Peter! Thanks for checking out the project!
...the entire idea is just dumb.

Anyway, I have better things to do than waste my time talking about ideas sufficiently stupid to be indistinguishable from scams for free, so don't bother replying unless you've got a paying contract. (1.5BTC/hr, escrow required for you)

Do me a favor and keep your stupid protocol just the way it is.
'
WHAT - A - DICK.

The guy was being nice and saying 'hello in a friendly way'.  Why is there so much anger in the bitcoin upper echelon?  Did someone steal all your coins?

18  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Is Mastercoin bloating the blockchain and what we can do about it? on: September 13, 2013, 09:32:24 PM
I have better things to do with my time than to provide free consulting for altcoins who've just raised hundreds of thousands of dollars

don't non-consensually consume the resources of people who are disinterested— even opposed— to your system...

...You send 1BTC to your grandmother - I am disinterested and it consumes blockchain resources - and I oppose you sending this kind of transaction.

Look, J.R. is breaking his back trying to find a way to very lightly consume these resources and to be a good 'blockchain citizen'.  There is no point trying to bust his balls about the project.

Your anger reeks of jealousy because you have raised any money to support any of your ideas.  J.R. is being very respectful and polite and trying to find the best way possible to keep bitcoin strong and healthy.  Then, you angry dicks come around cursing him down for his good efforts.  WTF?

Contribute or go home pussy.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: $25000 Coding Contest: Show us what you can do with MasterCoin, every entry wins on: September 12, 2013, 12:57:31 AM
we recently raised over half a million dollars to build a new protocol layer on top of bitcoin.

You should be aware that multiple projects eligible for entry into this contest are already started, and have made amazing progress.

Wow!!! This is excellent.  What a way to launch a project.  People are just jumping in before the contest is even official.  Hope we find some great coders.

Very cool.

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elizabeth T. Ploshay for Bitcoin Foundation board on: September 11, 2013, 09:28:51 PM

First this person posts in the third person:
I've explained my personal support of her...  It's because I know her and believe she...

I think the Foundation would benefit more from Elizabeth's membership than others.

Then posts again in the first person:
I love having a culturally jewish last name, when I...; my... name I know...  I've pissed...

The dishonest 'recommendation' of herself is certainly enough to consider her character unqualified for the board.
