1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN: UnitedBitcoin - UBTC - Launched in Silicon Valley on Dec 12 by Jeff Garzik on: January 05, 2018, 05:07:00 PM
I moved my BTC before Jan 2nd to other addresses.
All BTC is on hardware wallets.
How can I claim UnitedBitcoin?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SECOND AIRDROP] BITCOIN RHODIUM [BTR] - Limited - Rare - Resistant on: January 05, 2018, 04:50:51 PM
The message seems to be new

"Multiple addresses are allowed, with maximum limit of 5000 BTR per user. "

What is a "user" ?

- an IP address?
- a session / cookie?
- a browser fingerprint?
- a BTC address?
- a unique message?

Please clarify.

What if a person helped several family members and friends to register their bitcoin addresses and registered more than 500 BTC from the same IP, browser and unique message, how do they explain to their friends that they did not get their Bitcoin Rhodium?

If a person registered more than 500 BTC, how will you determine which addresses get their Rhodium and which don't?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - BLOOM - ONLINE - new virtual fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: November 13, 2017, 01:34:39 AM

In this post I list 22 steps on how to SAFELY receive your BTX from a Trezor. The steps for a Ledger would be mostly the same, except for step 6 (erase your Trezor). To erase your Ledger, simply enter a wrong PIN number 3 times.

Besides that, simply replace the word "Trezor" with "Ledger".

This is too careless IMO, asking people to compromise their Trezor seed and erase their Trezor.
Trezor is also used as a password manager and for U2F logins, not just for storing coins.

It is also not practical for people who have part of their seed or their entire seed words stored with lawyers or relatives or as part of their will, possibly with a lot of care to bury or otherwise hide it, maybe even in different physical locations throughout the world that might require travelling.
You don't just change a seed like that, especially people with significant holdings or who do hold all other kinds of coins in multiple accounts, have set up multisig accounts etc ...

I heard about Bitcore on twitter a few days ago.
Tried to install Bitcore for OSX but it hangs every time I start it and I have to force quit it.
Anybody else have this problem?

7  Local / Altcoins (Deutsch) / Re: Steuer auf Altcoins - Kompakte Einschätzung? on: July 10, 2017, 10:14:45 AM

Welche Nachweise sollte man dabei erbringen? (Mit private keys Signaturen erstellen, handschriftliche Aufzeichnungen erstellen?)

Wie kann man vorgehen wenn man z.B. die ersten 500 BTC damals vor sehr langer Zeit mal mit Bargeld gekauft hat?

9  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.7.0 on: January 04, 2017, 10:52:10 PM
I just installed the latest version 2.7.14 on OSX over the old version. When opening electrum it tells me that my trezor wallet contains multiple accounts, it should not. I don't know why it is telling me that ...
I don't know how to proceed. I might find an older version and install it before opening the latest version to make sure nothing important is lost.

I can also absolutely not lose my transaction history from the old version for example or names I have given to addresses... I guess my old version was something like 2.6.x ..  is there a risk that I will lose anything whatsoever?

Solved: After backing up the wallet, I answered to split the wallet. It created two new wallet files  wallet.0 and wallet.1. I answered not to delete the old wallet file, as a result the question to split the wallet came up every time I opened electrum so I moved the old wallet out of the folder.
All functionality is available as far as I can see. Initially the "Addresses" tab was gone but it can be brought back easily from the menu. Trezor was recognized.
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Exchanges and AML / reporting of large volume traders - Information on: December 16, 2016, 06:27:49 AM
If you trade large volumes on an exchange, especially if it involves fiat currency trades, it would be good to know how this affects your privacy.
Most centralized exchanges have KYC in place so unless you submit fake documents, they know your ID and place of residence.

If you trade a high volume, what are the reporting requirements, what are the limits, who do they submit your details to and what details do they submit?

Which exchanges voluntarily submit information to tax authorities in your country of residence or to the country that issued your passport or to the banks they work with or to local authorities in their jurisdiction?

How much do you have to trade for them to start asking you AML questions, or start asking you to sign AML statements? If you return such a form / statement to the exchange, who will they give it to?  The bank they work with for fiat transfers, or also to other authorities?

Please collect specific information in this thread, no wild speculation.

Who reports what and when?

Post only if you are fairly sure of your source, from personal experience or if you work for an exchange, bank or authority.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Decred Evolution - Service for easy Proof-of-Stake mining on: December 14, 2016, 12:20:31 AM
I just found this DECRED PoS mining service  https://evolution.dcrstats.com/en

I really like to invest in cryptocurrencies that earn interest, so I do own some DCR and I managed to stake a bit on OSX command line, the process was not very transparent though, so it was too time consuming.
I also did not like that my DCR were locked, some for a very long time.

From what I understand using this service I have to actually send my DCR to a third party I need to trust and give up control of my DCR.

This does not seem very secure, at least not compared to DASH where I can earn 10% interest, all while I keep my DASH in my own wallet. I much prefer that.
To run a DASH masternode and earn 10% interest pa I retain control of my DASH, they never need to leave my wallet and I can spend / sell my DASH within seconds if I decide to do so.

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What Altcoins do you want to hold in 2017? on: December 13, 2016, 11:18:46 PM
DASH, because it pays me 10% interest pa through masternodes

I also hold BTC and some XMR, DCR, SDC, LTC
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / DASH: Best cryptocurrency to invest for 2017 on: December 13, 2016, 01:05:05 PM
I would say DASH and this is why:

- Very active, ongoing development with big update on the horizon next year (DASH Evolution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7T-a2xm5c0)
- good choice of GUI wallets
- DASH has a high full node count (4256 right now) because the owners of a DASH masternode earn about 10% interest on the DASH they own
- Cryptocurrencies with anonymizing features are generally very popular and will continue to be popular
- DASH has been in the Top 10 on http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/views/all/ for a long time now
- development and community are funded by votes from masternode owners (dashcentral.org)
- Currently DASH is relatively cheap with a lot of upside potential: see the chart: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/

So especially if you are looking to make a long term investment, you can even earn a very good interest rate with DASH.

14  Local / Servisler / BTCturk status? on: September 28, 2016, 03:38:24 PM
Sorry, I can't read or write Turkish, but I use BTCturk.

What is the status at BTCturk now?  They lost their banking relationship, but have they been able to find a new bank?

Are fiat deposits and withdrawals working again?

If not, what do you guys do in Turkey to get Lira to your bank account by selling BTC?

Thank you!
15  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best VPN's using Bitcoin? on: September 20, 2014, 11:01:57 AM
Can anyone recommend a VPN provider that will not block SMTP traffic (secure ports like 587)?

I have been using proxy.sh and a few months ago they started to block port 587. I contacted support several times to let them know the mailservers I need unblocked, but they did not do it.
What's the point of using a VPN if I have to disconnect from it every time I want to send an e-mail and I don't usually use webmail.

Due to high amount of infected Windows computers and SPAM VPN, providers usually blocks outgoing SMTP connections on the VPN servers.
However Most famous free email services (gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc.) provide their SMTP servers also on SSL port TCP 465 which is more secure and this port is not widely used by viruses for sending spam. If you need to send emails from your email client (Outlook etc.), then just change your SMTP server settings to use SSL SMTP on port 465.

Also I remember purevpn.com enabled smtp port on my vpn account that has dedicated IP so maybe if you contact your provider they make an exception and enable it on your account.

The biggest e-mail provider in Germany, GMX is requiring port 587.
Server: mail.gmx.net
Port: 587
Encryption: STARTTLS

I had logged several tickets with proxy.sh and they were unable to unblock it for me, so now they lose me as a customer.

I will try to double check with some other providers if they allow port 587.

If any VPN providers from the 2014 list could comment, it would be great.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Order Batch 1 Now! on: July 18, 2014, 08:56:52 AM
I ordered the 250Mh/s Viper at the beginning of January. I paid by wire transfer. My order status never changed from "Hold".
I never received answers by email until now, where they ask for proof of the wire, claiming they did not get it. This is ridiculous since I put the order number and date into the wire reference field.
So now I sent them the wire transfer confirmation and they don't reply again. With the order status on "Hold" I am not even able to make any further payment, because I don't get to see an invoice when I log on to their site.
17  Economy / Services / Re: Anonymity on the Internet — ZorroVPN on: July 08, 2014, 09:21:06 AM
Do you have a tutorial for using your VPN service and to make it "fail-close". For example if I use tunnelblick on OS X on a host machine, how can I set it up so that no traffic whatsoever will go in or out of the machine when the VPN connection drops and before the VPN connection is established (after waking up from sleep or when booting).

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Order Batch 1 Now! on: June 29, 2014, 08:28:45 AM
Batch 1 full payments should have been made by now . There  is nothing else they can get at this stage since they have no working product and no one will give them more money .

I posted here before but not sure if anyone took notice:  I have an order in batch 1, I paid the deposit by wire transfer.
I am still waiting to even receive / view an invoice for the final payment. I have not been asked to pay and I don't have an invoice for the final payment.
If they had asked me to pay or provided an invoice I would have paid them.

So it seems they are not yet collecting the final payments for batch 1 at all.

Has anyone received an invoice for their batch 1 purchase?

To all of you talking about divorce ...

... soon when people want to make a commitment, they will not "get married" .. that's the old way.

They new way:   "Will you fund a multisig wallet with me my love?"

Love has nothing to do with money. If the subject even comes up, I'm done with her. No more being a John against my will.

It has got a lot to do with it, think: Love > reproduction >  supporting the children and the woman who has less time and energy to make money/food in this phase of her life, death, inheritance, property and so on ..
But any further discussion we'd have to take to an online debate forum.
