5  Economy / Economics / Re: Can someone explain this drop for all the main crypto-currencies? on: October 02, 2013, 01:56:04 AM
If there are "n" exchanges where you can exchange "X-cryptocurrency" for "Y-cryptocurrency," and suddenly there are "n-1" exchanges, (IMHO) I would expect a short term drop in price for all currencies that could be traded on the defunct exchange while the former-users of the defunct exchange migrate to one of the remaining options for buying/selling cryptocurrency.

Right?
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Ripple-like systems a threat to Bitcoin? on: October 01, 2013, 06:51:34 PM
Since Ripple is open source now, wouldn't it be possible to create a Ripple-like system with BTC instead of XRP?

Yes, but we didn't need Ripple's code to do that ^

Ripple, like communism, is a fine idea in theory... but history has shown us that it's very tough to keep people honest when money(power) is involved.

However, a truly free & instant, BTC based, open source payment system will be available soon  Wink

R.I.P. Ripple.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin-QT: System Error: Database Corrupted on: October 01, 2013, 04:26:42 AM
I know this thread is old, but this is the explanation I wish I had seen a couple of hours ago...

I encountered the same problem on OSX and was able to rectify the issue by closing Bitcoin-Qt, navigating to the bitcoin data folder...

"user">Library>Application Support>Bitcoin

...and deleting everything except the wallet.dat and peers.dat files (this may work if you delete peers.dat too, but I didn't).

Reopen Bitcoin-Qt and it should re-downloaded the blockchain while keeping your addresses/private keys intact.
