1  Economy / Service Discussion / Does anyone have experience with Bit49 hosting service? on: May 20, 2019, 12:44:01 AM
Hello there!

Does anyone have any experience with Bit49 hosting? I can get an Antminer S9 (16TH/s), a power supply, and 6 month prepaid hosting for $662. It's a 12 month contract so it's going to be $52 a month after the first 6 month prepaid contract. They have a location in the US, but this one is going to be in Russia. Here's a link to the site: https://bit49.io/ . Does anyone have any experience with this company? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

I think this idea has some serious flaws. In fact, I believe the project will fail because people don't want their CPUs being used for mining. Period. They don't want adds, but they want to mine Cryptos for someone else even less. Just look at the recent headlines about crypto-currency mining adds. I know they aren't the same. However, when people hear about this, they are going to equate it with the same thing. If it ever makes it mainstream, their will be major backlash.

I think it will be the opposite. There might be some short term public outrage, but after the 24hr news cycle moves on to something new then everyone will forget about it. The only ones who really pay attention will be people like us, which makes up a very small percent of total internet users.

Hopefully. However, I wouldn't even be surprised if crypto-mining on user's laptops was banned via a law. It's something I definitely could see happening. At the very least, they are probably going to be forced to put up a banner asking user's permission to do it (similar to the cookie banner that shows up on a lot of sites now). I am not saying I want this to happen (I would like PRL to succeed)-I am just being realistic.

Let's think about this for a minute. Historically, bitcoin (and other cryptos-though not all) has always rebounded and surpassed it's previous all time high. All you have to do is look at the historical data. I don't think there is currently a whole lot of evidence that makes the future any different. I suspect it will eventually exceed 19k again-though I don't know when. Maybe it will be this year, maybe next-who knows?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Is Binance safe to store cryptos? on: December 27, 2017, 10:15:57 PM
Hello!

I have about $600 worth of various Cryptos on Binance. I have two-factor Authentication enabled (meaning I have to get a code from the Google Authenticator App on my phone). Is it safe to just store the coins on the exchange? That way it will be easier when I go to sell them and I don't have to keep paying fees for transferring them in and out. I realize that it's not normally advised, but with two-factor authentication enabled, does that change anything?

Thanks!

Thank you everyone for your input so far! I read something about XVG only having 1 developer (as everyone else left). Is this true? If so, yikes! What are your opinions on Spectrecoin and/or Deeponion as opposed to XVG ? Also, what are your thoughts on STRAT vs WAVES?

Try website http://www.coinparator.com/ to manage your portfolio. Like watching current rates, value, charts etc. etc. etc.  Smiley

Thanks! I will definitely look into that!

Hello everyone!

New member here. I have been following crypto-currencies for years now (not super close, but aware of them). I had the opportunity to buy BTC at $100-400 and passed it up. I am not going to let them happen again! I have about $1k to invest in crypto. I want to diversify to an extent. I don't want 8+ currencies because it will be impossible to keep track of all the wallets and keys. I have done a little research and have come up with the following portfolio:
ETH 25%
XVG 25%
WAVES 25%
XLM 25%

I am open to changes and modifying the percentages. I currently own .5 ETH and 1.4 LTC that I will use to buy some of the other cryptos. Does that portfolio look pretty strong to you guys? Feel free to tear it apart! I would appreciate any input.

Thanks!
How come you didn't invest more of your money into Ethereum? The price looks like it's going to increase soon.

Well, I placed my initial order for $1k worth of ETH today. I will use it as a springboard to buy other tokens. I would like to keep 1 ETH pocketed because I think ETH is going sky high soon. I may go over my investment by a few hundred by doing so, but I think it will pay off.

I think you need to wait for a while and check the price and the trends before you buy.

You mean until the correction settles? I was hoping to do so, but, at the same time, I don't want to miss the low prices (assuming they come).

ETH, yes, hold a larger portion though, also, why no bitcoin?

I can't afford a lot of Bitcoin (about .03). I head the fees are really pricey too. I  prefer whole coins or halves.

You didn't state how long you are willing to hold the coins you just listed above.

I am willing to hold for 2+ years if I see it gaining at least a little bit. I have a few thousand dollars in a mutual fund and I own a stock so as long as it, overall, is gaining a little, I am fine. I realize that sometimes it will go down Wink
