Thanks for the response!  Well they were and I took a screenshot because I was so happy that I had earned a whole $12 or whatever 2500 hobonickels equals now.  My wallet had them under Confirmed balance, and then my PC restarted later, I opened the wallet, the blockchain updated, and.... gone!  Poof.  Nada!
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Hey Guys! (and Mining Profit Disappeared!) on: December 05, 2013, 04:15:52 AM
New user, known about cryptos for a while but never got into it because I didn't have the capital, being only 17 as I type... haha

But with friends money, I'm getting a rig together.  But, Mining overnight with a single 7950 earned me 2500 hobonickels, which then vanished in the morning after I restared my computer Sad  I have screenshots before and after as proof!  I'm more concerned with knowing what happened rather than recouping what I lost, so I don't make the same mistake twice!  CGminer on windows

Thanks guys!

3  Other / Beginners & Help / First Rig On the Way! Tips/Advice? on: December 05, 2013, 03:46:37 AM
Hey guys, really cool forum you've got here.  I'm 17, an honors and AP student at the top of my class, and still waiting for college admissions decisions!  Waiting sucks... D:  But I read about Bitcoin a year ago through random exploration of the interwebs, and, planning on double majoring in chemistry and computer science, it finally drew my full attention.  Well, that AND the fact that I need to make some monies for Christmas time and this doubles as my "fun" time and work time if I play my cards right!

So anyways, I built a custom PC using a small scholarship fund over the summer, with the intent to resell it, but I just so happened to have a Sapphire 7950 in my baby so I'm keeping it to mine!  With capital from a few friends, and my monthly lunch money, I've managed to order all the parts for the rig detailed in this tutorial, but at a cheaper price ($185 for each 7950 i didnt have, so with mine 3 total):  http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/04/build-a-litecoin-mining-rig-hardware/

Will this rig be profiting soon if I play my cards right?  Any tips on what/how to mine?  I've mined about 1.5 LTC with my desktop and the original 7950 and played around on btc-e until I got about $100 bucks out, but I'm repaying my friends first before I save up profit for the holiday season.  BUT I also solo-mined HoboNickels and it said I earned 2500 overnight, but then when it synced with the network today it went to ZERO!  Sad  That was discouraging....

Well the rig should be up by this weekend, I can post pics.

Also, I've been mining the most profitable coin manually using coinchoose.com and coinwarz.com for the most part.  StableCoin seems to be living up to its name in terms of constant profitability, but I'm now minin LTC as of now looking and crossing my fingers for a solo block.  Is this smart?  Or should I p2pool mine to get the most money?  Finally, I've messed around with CGmonitor so that I can auto mine the most profitable coin, but after defining variables and scheduling on it I see very little returns...

Thanks for the help guys, looking forward to becoming a fellow miner/trader Smiley

What's the word on the Butterfly Labs graphics card that costs like 4.6k and mines at 500 gh/s?  I saw it was due to ship the first order in the fall, did anyone ever have success with one?  if so, those would be great but i bet theyre riddled with problems...
