Hate to say it and it sucks that you got scammed, but 'theymo5'? Seriously? theyrnos has been my favourite imposter so far. I bet he could've cleaned quite a few people out as he seemingly attempted to do.

Favorite impostor? You admire these people do you?!?

Next time, pay more attention and be suspicious of illiterates.

Thank you for your wonderful constructive advice!

No there is nothing you can do.  You sent irreversible currency to a con-man.  It is gone.  A hard lesson to learn but always make sure you are sending money to the right person.

so fucking gutted.  3.4 BTC is lot and its a new business start up as well.  I obviously thought it was the right person.  I'm surprised someone was able to register a username that similar and contact bidders of the advertising auction unnoticed - This shit needs policing

I don't think any amount of policing is going to help some people...

Newbie, just registered, numbers in place of letters, deals via pm, 0 posts. Plenty of red flags there.

I have never bought advertising from this forum before.  I have no idea how i should be contacted for payment. No details on the forum about how the payment procedure will work either.  Maybe the red flag is they need to make things more clear for inexperienced users bidding on advertising.  Don't get me wrong i am not blaming this forum.  It was my mistake.  I am suggesting that more can be done to help prevent situations like this

You did not notice that the account had like no posts?

No i didn't.  I guess with so much going on with the new business launch i overlooked it.  Maybe if they made the auction bids private it could prevent anything like this from happening again.  My BTC is gone, i now don't want this happening again to anyone else.  I have learnt my lesson from this mistake but maybe the forum could improve the procedure of acquiring advertising to prevent other people from getting burnt

Hi,

No probs,

We are trying to give the new guys a fighting a chance by giving them some advertising space as a cheaper rate.  Currently we have a few big players that win every time by out bidding all the smaller players.

This will help promote bitcoin as a whole in the long run which is something the forum admin strongly believe in.

payment received thanks.

Historic info on banner impressions here -

https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats

Advertisments are well worth the investment, we get the same guys bidding every month.

The auction will close this week with banners going live Monday.

what can i do? anything??

BTC is accpeted at over 50,000 stores as well as MAJOR brands like Expedia, Overstock, Tigerdirect, etc etc.

16  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin Mining calculator - the maths on: February 02, 2014, 06:34:45 PM
See the following page for more details: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty

The time required to find 1 block is given by:
t = D * 2^32 / H
(D = Difficulty, H = hashrate, t = time in seconds).

So the number of blocks per seconds is given by:
BPS = H / (D * 2^32)

You get 25 BTC per block, so the income per second in BTC is
I = 25 * H / (D * 2^32)

or per day:
I = 2160000 * H / (D * 2^32)

1 Ghash/s would do:
I = 2160000 * 10^9 / (D * 2^32)

or:
I = 502914 / D

At current difficulty of 2,193,847,870, that would be:
I = 0.000229238 BTC per day or 0.229238 mBTC per day.

thank you whats your btc address?

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I finally figured out how the government can destroy Bitcoin on: January 30, 2014, 11:29:03 PM
The only reason people mine bitcoin is because they can either spend it or convert it to fiat.

The only reason merchants accept it, is because they can convert it to fiat.

If you shut down the exchanges bitcoin will die. The only way this wont happen is if the merchants suppliers will also except bitcoin and you can basically spend it everywhere for everything, then it truly does become a worldwide currency in its own right.

It would be impossible for every exchange in every country of the world to be shut down - there will always be one and if there is one there is a way!

Long and short of it is - the government cant destroy bitcoin through any of the above means.

There is however one sure-fire way the government can destroy the currency and that is to destroy peoples confidence it...

Crack SHA-256, make it public - show the coin as vulnerable and insecure - who would even want to use it then?
