1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: is there any way to check that how much GHS your computer? on: February 21, 2014, 02:28:23 AM
How can i know the GHS produced by my computer!?

Zero - computers are in the mhash range. Miners are in ghash range - 1 ghash = 1000 mhash.

Check out some of the newer miners -- 600 ghash...that's 600,000 mhash! That's a lot of laptops!
2  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a commercial place to mine bitcoin and expand in future. on: February 21, 2014, 02:14:36 AM

"industrial where house" right? correct me if I'm wrong.

It's "industrial warehouse" - not "where house"

A warehouse is a place to store goods..."where house" is a question that can answered by looking in your wallet for your home address.

Here's my password...b75a797f-0b1e-48a2-8d90-0c3c65c04769

I made it up just now using this...

http://www.uuidgenerator.net/version4

Generate the version 4 type for max randomness...and check out the probability of generating a non-unique identifier..."The probability of one duplicate would be about 50% if every person on earth owns 600 million UUIDs."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universally_unique_identifier

Take out the dashes/replace dashes with some other character/move the delimiters around/combine uuids/some other variation to boost randomness.

<hmmm>You can remember these long sequences in about 2 days...just write them out 20 times every couple of hours on the first day, and then 2-3 times on the second day. Then write them out about 2x per day about every other day to commit to longer term memory. Use a pen and paper - and cover up the last sequence you write to avoid the temptation to copy Smiley </hmmm>

4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anybody knows anything about import charges when buying ASIC? on: December 24, 2013, 11:48:35 PM
Look it up...the general name for the tax that governments charge when you receive things from outside your country is called duty. Lookup the duty charge for your country - you should be able to calculate it.

Duty is often based on the value of the goods, but some countries may also impose a duty for other reasons. Other countries might just charge sales tax.

Be aware that you might have to pay some other fees that are over and above duty charges - like a processing charge or something similar.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will I be able to use Bitcoins at the mall in 2014??? on: December 18, 2013, 01:16:37 AM
I heard about something like that called BitPlastic but I am not sure if it's real

I don't know about BitPlastic, but cavirtex is definitely real -  "debit card for bitcoin"is a great idea!
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will I be able to use Bitcoins at the mall in 2014??? on: December 15, 2013, 05:47:57 PM
In Canada there's a virtual exchange that offers a debit card...

- You trade bitcoin for Canadian dollars
- They send you a debit card with the Canadian dollars on it
- You can spend in a store

Ok, you're not spending bitcoin directly but it's really close - here's a video that explains it...

7  Economy / Speculation / Re: Got a bitcoin price prediction for 2014? on: December 11, 2013, 12:44:25 AM
Yeah, 2,500 - I think it will fluctuate a lot...maybe 8,000 like someone else said, but it might end the year at 2,500. I think 2015 is more likely to end with bitcoin firmly within 5 digits.
8  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Do you think price per Gh will drop once CEX.io will announce fees? on: November 01, 2013, 04:18:09 PM
Official announcement about the fee...

https://twitter.com/cex_io/status/396262937922646016

"The estimated fee is 0.000000002695 BTC/share, which makes it ~4% of total mining profit."
(from https://cexio.zendesk.com/entries/28208413-Official-statement-about-the-maintenance-fee)

4% of profit...close to some pool fees, except they're actually charging in USD and then converting to BTC so it will vary based on the exchange rate.

Trading at almost 0.108 per ghash - looks like the news has not gotten out very far.
9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Good price at CEX.io on: October 30, 2013, 08:05:27 PM
I can only think people aren't buying to mine but to re-sell.

^^^^^ -- I agree. I just sold my first lot of ghash and ended up in the black (made btc). I bought the ghashes bit by bit over several days and then sold it alltogether. The price just dropped below where I sold too!

10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Good price at CEX.io on: October 30, 2013, 03:32:18 PM
I realize they need some sort of way to make money at cex.io to run things, but $0.001 maintenance fee per GH/s PER HOUR.. They just killed themselves :/

I agree - that's about 9% of your mining income per day? That's too much.

I think they would end up encouraging people to short sell in order to keep their average ghash per 24h as low as possible - maybe that's the point(?).
11  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much would I make if... on: October 24, 2013, 08:15:55 PM
  • About $11,800 in the first month
  • About $5,770 in the second month
  • ...continues to decline after that

* Assumes you started mining at 1000 ghash/sec on October 1 2013 (24 days ago)

You did not ask about profit after your cost to buy the ghash/sec

Try various mining calculators to figure it out - here's one: http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Got it working - mining with Nexus 7 (2012) on: September 13, 2013, 06:11:17 PM
I guess he was asking about Nexus 7

Yes, that's what I meant - depends on your miner - whether you can generate enough bitcoins to be able to recover your costs. The Nexus 2012 version has gone down in price, so it might be worth it - depending on your ROI goals.

I did notice that EasyMiner eventually hangs - the display no longer updates and the Nexus wants to stop the app when I try to interact with it. The miner continues to run and continues to process pool shares as shown on the pool stats page.

For a test I want to try switching over to cgminer on the Nexus 7 (uses bfgminer by default). There's a place in the settings where you can enter your cgminer command line parameters; I think there's a file you can use to configure it, but I can't seem to find out about it's format or name. Using cgminer might have an effect on Easy Miner's hangs - who knows though!

I also tried hooking up a Raspberry Pi computer - works great! Takes a little learning - not much more than needed to get this running and seems to be very stable (during the past 24h, so no long term experience yet).

If you want to go with Raspberry Pi, you'll need a few things:

* Raspberry Pi model B
* Powered USB hub
* Some way to go wireless - you can get ethernet to wifi dongles or use a router as a client bridge
* SD Card compatible with the Raspberry Pi
* Operating system and miner software to run the miner

More about this in another post!

Will it actually pay off?

Depends on your miner
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Got it working - mining with Nexus 7 (2012) on: September 11, 2013, 02:56:50 PM
I'm pleased to say I got my mining rig working with a Nexus 7 running Butterfly Labs Easy Miner[1].

The specs on Easy Miner say you need a particular kernel to run it - I tried to install it but couldn't get it working on both Nexus 7 (ver 2/2013 and ver 1/2012. It just caused the new 2013 Nexus to hang on startup and seemed to do nothing at all to the 2012 version.

You need the kernel to enable support for using an OTG+Charging cable (it's an OTG cable that's split so that you can use a regular USB connector with the Nexus 7 and charge it at the same time - you obviously need to keep the Nexus 7 running 24x7 when you use it to manage miners).

So I took a chance and went with Cyanogenmod 10.1 on the version 1/2012 Nexus and installed Easy Miner. It worked as soon as I plugged in the miner! The Nexus charges (and stays charged) while the miner is doing its thing.

The only issue I found was that the screen had to stay on because pressing the power button would put the Nexus into sleep mode and kill/stop Easy Miner. I solved that problem with an app that keeps the Nexus from sleeping but also turns off the screen [2].

I didn't have any luck trying this with the new Nexus 7 (2013). I did get a really good deal on the old Nexus - about $120 off the retail price - making this a good way to go to recover the cost from mining.

[Just to be clear I am not mining using the Nexus as the miner. The Nexus runs Easy Miner which uses the miner to actually do the mining. Easy Miner handles the connection to the mining pool or just manages mining, depending on how you have it setup]

Tip when you install Cyanogenmod 10.1 - install it from recovery [3]

Tip for getting everything working - do it under windows and use Wugfresh to unlock, root, copy stuff over, and even recover completely to factory settings. [4]

I have been lurking here for a while and have learned a lot, so I wanted to start by saying Hello and giving you some good information now that BFL is shipping.
