1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How CoinMarketCap calculates the average price of cryptos? on: January 06, 2018, 07:23:17 PM
I know they make an average of all the exchanges out there.

Let's take Ripple for exemple. It currently lists @ $3.05 on CoinMarketCap right now. However the XRP/USD pairs trade at roughly $2.6-2/7 on Binance, Bittrex, Kraken, HitBTC etc. Literally no exchange trade XRP/USD anywhere close from $3.05.

So I guess my question is how can they list XRP à $3.05 when all the other exchanges trade it at $2.7? Does that mean that CoinMarketCap also add all the XRP/BTC, XRP/ETH pairs into the equation, convert them in $ and make an average out of it?

Thanks!
2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to withdraw crypto to fiat $ without painful absurd extreme "verifications"? on: January 04, 2018, 09:37:47 PM
Well first don't go fiat through CoinBase. If you check the CoinBase subreddit, you will see that hundreds of people have been waiting for 1+ month to receive their money ($5K-$50K) and Coinbase DOES NOT provide any support whatsoever, unreachable by phone, unresponsive on reddit/over email etc. I wouldn't feel so good if i had $30,000 in the nature with no way to track it.

I think they are better options like Gemini in the US but any exchange gives US residents a very hard time.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Day Traders : Pros and Cons of using a desktop or hardware wallet? on: January 04, 2018, 08:57:00 PM
I know most of you transfer your cryptocurrencies to hardware wallets such as Trezor RIGHT AFTER the trade was done. But for those who do not possess an hardware wallet do you use a desktop or iphone wallet like EXODUS or Etherum? There are dozens of coins that are not supported by any wallets so you must leave the currencies on the exchange (Binance for example) right? Let's day you are in the subway and you want to sell your Ripple that sit in your Toast Wallet. How do you make a trade?

Also, aren't the withdraw/deposit fees between your hardware/desktop wallets expensive as you repeat this operation often?

Thanks a lot
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ToastWallet issue on iOS on: January 04, 2018, 05:04:51 AM
So I sent 30 XRP from Binance to my desktop ToastWallet address and everything is fine on that end but when I retrieve this backup in my iOS ToastWallet app he can retrieve the address, the name of the account, the transaction in this account but it displays 0 XRP in the main account menu and says it is inactive. Why is that?

Thanks a lot
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quickest and cheapest way to buy $2000 in Ripple? on: January 03, 2018, 10:46:52 PM
So it's been a week that I'm still in the process of being verified on Kraken, Bitstamp and Gemini. I have coinbase but credit card limit is $400. I could do ACH but it takes 4 Days so I can't send the ETH straight to Binance to convert to XRP. Verification on GDAX does not work either it states please try again later.

Please help

there are no good options here. this is the slow legacy banking system in action. once you get verified, kraken does not accept deposits using ACH; wires only. coinbase/GDAX does, but they don't support XRP, so you'd have to wait for the ACH transfer to complete, then buy BTC (or BCH/ETH/LTC) then send it to another exchange that supports XRP.

apparently you can now buy XRP directly with a credit card on bitstamp. i'm guessing you would need to wait for verification to complete, though. and the fees are probably high. when they first offered credit card purchases for BTC, fees were 8%!

you're going to consider what fees you are willing to pay. the fastest option is localbitcoins (buy BTC instantly) --> send to binance (cheapest exchange fees) to trade for XRP. but premiums on localbitcoins tend to be high.

Thanks a lot. Is there a similar website to local bitcoin but for ETH as it's cheaper to transfer? Also would you think a wire transfer would be more reasonable on coinbase? (bank of America to coinbase) even though I'd have to pay $30 in fees? If I wire the money at 10pm would I get the ETH straight on my coinbase account or I have to wait to transfer this money to binance?

The link below has all of the exchanges that provide liquidity to Ripple:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ripple/#markets

You could also try the currency exchange section of bitcointalk if you can find someone that will sell you XRP instead.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0

Good luck!

Thanks but none of those exchanges work for me (no cc or verification that takes weeks or not instant delivery of funds if I use bank transfer)

Thanks. I just want to buy Ripple and send straight  to my desktop wallet. Are there any fees with those exchanges ? Is there one that does not require verification as it's taking weeks?
Almost (if not all) exchanges will require verification if you want to deposit USD and buy using an USD pair. The easiest way would be to buy BTC (E.g: with Localbitcoins, which is anonymous and doesn't require verification) and send them to Binance (doesn't require verification aswell) to buy your XRP. If you still don't want to buy BTC and then trade, you will need to verify your accounts in those exchanges (and probably wait a little bit).

Thanks. I put Ireland as my country in Bitsane as I'm not a us resident. I will use my us credit card to deposit funds and they only charge 2%. Hope it works

go check here :
https://ripple.com/xrp/buy-xrp/

if you want to know where is the place that you can buy XRP using USD,
every exchanges have their own weakness and their own advantages.
for example Kraken,
their biggest weakness or problem is their website,
you can not make an action when the market move, because it will lead you to an error page.
but they did not do a shitty thing like others.

Thanks. I just want to buy Ripple and send straight  to my desktop wallet. Are there any fees with those exchanges ? Is there one that does not require verification as it's taking weeks?

Same here verification still pending on Kraken and Bitstamp and it's been a week...

Anyway when I see how Kraken lags and crashes I'm not willing to invest $$ through this exchange. I live in the us but I'm a European citizen so maybe I should go for an exchange out of the us?
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Suggest me a wallet on: December 31, 2017, 04:01:56 PM
Do you have to pay fees when transferring from an exchange place (e.g Kraken, Bitstamp) to your local wallet? What if you have BTC/XRP and need to buy a tshirt? Can you just send with your local wallet to the seller or you have to go through an exchange?

What if I make to perform day trading?

Thanks a lot
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: U.S. vs European Exchange websites? on: December 23, 2017, 12:54:46 PM
I live work and bank in the US but I am a European citizen. I have two options:

A) Buy cryptocurrencies on US exchange platforms such as Kraken with a CC or bank transfer
B) Buy crypto on a Luxembourg exchange such as Etoro with a US credit card

Which would make the most sense in terms of tax/regulation/easiness to use?

Many thanks

Buying crypto on Etoro is not the same as in fact buying crypto. You do not have the option to transfer those said coins to your wallet if you at some point wish to.

If you buy crypto on Etoro you are buying at CFD which tracks the underlaying price movements of the coin.

Interesting I was not aware of this. You are just buying derivatives on Etoro then. Is there an incentive in buying coins there vs. buying crypto? I could see the point for bitcoin (you can use bitcoin to purchase stuff) but for alt coins such as Ripple that are just purely speculative as of today is there a point in actually owning the coin?

I'm not a lawyer/accountant, so I can't speak on tax issues. For example, if there are VAT considerations, I don't think a US exchange like Kraken is going to handle it in the same way that a Luxembourg exchange might.

As far as ease of use goes, though, I would stick to ACH transfers, which tend to be free. Bank wires are also superior to credit cards. Most exchanges charge very high fees on credit card purchases and enforce low limits.

Due to all the downtime and recent complaints about Kraken, I would recommend GDAX or Gemini. Both support European and US residents and both are licensed exchanges. Bitstamp is also one that I would recommend over Kraken.

Thanks for the input. It seems that both GDAX and Gemini only offer Bitcoin and ETH purchasing services. I am looking for an exchange that offers way more currencies than that (if it exists).
