For those with problems with disconnects. It generally only disconnects breifly on coin change, part of the stratum implementation here for multiple coins to be mined. If  you use cgminer version 3.5.0 or earlier the switch back to mining happens much quicker. I have been mining here for quite a while and this issue keeps coming up, both in the forums and the IRC channel, but almost always comes back to version of cgminer.

I haven't been mining on Middlecoin (except when my other pool goes down) for about 2 weeks and there is about 0.0035Btc that seems to have been stuck since then, some of that is new, but the majority is over 2 weeks old. As I write this there is 0.00197542 immature, and 0.00161261 unexchanged.

I see the bug. I'll be looking at this in the next few days. Looks like there's as much as 3 bitcoins total worth of stuck immature funds.

Any update on this?  I'm kinda peeved that it's still not fixed 2 weeks after the problem was pointed out to you.

I wish whatever algorithm is used to decide when to change coins worked better. I understand it not switching to ALF just because it is the most profitable for only a minute or two and then drops far down the list, but often I see that the pool will be mining a coin WAY down the profitability list for a long stretch of time, and not switching to a better coin that is known to have long enough retargets to warrant the move (Such as CAP, CGB, DMD, ect.)

For example it has been mining MEC for 45 minutes straight, even though MEC has spent almost that entire span of time below LTC. Right now there are six coins the pool carries that would be better, with CGB in particular being almost twice as good as MEC. It's not like the profitability of these other coins just recently went up either. Earlier today it was stuck mining MEC at 450% when Diamond fluctuated between 1,000 and 700% for at almost an hour.

I have noticed this happening often in the last week or so, but just now decided to mention it. Didn't want to come off sounding like a dick, but the pool is leaving a bunch of profitability on the table so I figured I would chime in.

EDIT:

It switched about 5 minutes after I posted. For whatever reason it went to WDC at 500% instead of CGB which is still over 700%. CGB has been at this rate for about an hour and is the most profitable coin the pool offers, but it still hasn't switched to it.

Look back through the days posts in the thread ...

CGB has been temporarily disabled until it's fixed.

I've been thinking it through a bit after seeing the pool stratum connection disconnect at every start of a new round.  Seeing my miner go down for 15-30 seconds, and about 45 seconds till they are back up to speed.

I am wondering are you restarting a new stratum server each time it switches coins?

If so I wonder if it would be more efficient to have a stratum proxy (or 2, one in NA) running with a really fast reconnect rate to the pool stratum server ... and have all clients maintain connections to that proxy, seems to me that doing this may might get a faster work restart after the coin switch.

Its been bugging me in my head that I see stuff like this quite often in my miner output on the coin switch. This one happened right on the finding of a block ... did it even get found, or was that one of the 24 shares lost due to disconnect?

 [2013-09-28 14:25:23] Accepted 7009652c Diff 1.12K/20 GPU 0
 [2013-09-28 14:25:34] Found block for pool 0!
[2013-09-28 14:26:57] Stratum connection to pool 0 interrupted
[2013-09-28 14:26:57] Lost 24 shares due to stratum disconnect on pool 0
 [2013-09-28 14:27:19] Pool 0 stratum+tcp://stratum01.hashco.ws:8888 not respond
ing!

Hmm ... as I type this it seems it is a much longer than normal disconnect Sad.

Try lowering the diff on your 6990, even try multiple threads on a lower intesity.  Yes you get a slightly lower hashrate (difference on my cards is like 5-10kh/s) but you get less stales and a higher return, at-least that's what I have found anyway.

Thanks for your advise.

However, I do need the high intensity because this rig is also CPU mining XPM.
If I cut intensity below 18 the hashrate skydives, unless I stop the CPU miner.
The 6990 does 950 Kh/s on I 19, with CPU miner enabled it drops to 915.
Any lowering of intensity has a dramatic impact on the hashrate. (I 17 gives 600-650)
So, thats why I'm reluctantly pointing it at a LTC pool. High hashrate, almost no rejects, and my CPU is doing something usefull.

When mining scrypt, you need 1 core on your CPU "available" to get your best hashrate.  It doesn't seem like it should be that way, but I discovered that when I was trying LTC on the GPU and CPU at the same time.  The loss of 1 core on CPU was trivial compared to the hashrate lost on the GPU.

Lol I did not know this and thought you were full of hoowie until I tried it myself and it turns out sir that you know what you are talking about.  I was having problems with hash rate on 3 rigs where I had been running my CPU on SRC and never made the connection until I read this.  I was killing myself trying to figure out what the issue was.  I freed up one core on each machine and TADA! back to normal.  I say good on you.  Thanks!

I tried CPU mining both XPM and QRK, found that while doing so, even with one or 2 cores left free (6 core processor), I was still way more likely to have my rig completly lock up and have to be rebooted,  had 3 or 4 hard lockups in a day or 2 of trying to mine either cpu coin, had to hit the reset button each time ... doesn't seem to happen when I use the cpu to mine scrypt based coins (can do roughly 40KH/s on scrypt with 5 out of 6 core). Been debating overclocking the cpu for a bit better returns, but would want to upgrade my cooling before I try.

Definitely happy ... profits seem to be steadily going up. Even with the hickups testing FTC and the short day, I pulled in my highest daily total yet Smiley.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Pool][Profit-Switch][Optional Auto-Exchange per Coin][Vardiff] ~ Hashcows on: September 22, 2013, 02:41:04 AM

We disabled it for now, FTC and NVC are very profitable we just need to figure out if we have enough hash/luck on our side to make it worth it. We would only need to farm 1 FTC block every 45~ mintues for it to be worth it Smiley

Feedback welcome on this guys!

Hmm, after looking at the numbers on FTC I think our pool needs a few hundred more MH/s before we consider mining FTC ... maybe put some kinda logic in that if our total pool MH/s is higher than say 600, then give FTC a try, but at 311 MH/s I don't think we make enough reliably for it to be worth it.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi all Newbie here. on: September 21, 2013, 10:11:44 AM
I realize I am kinda late to the game ... but doesn't mean I can't still get some returns, I've actually moved away from mining LTC and am instead mining on hashcows, a pool similar to middlecoin, but with vardiff, and option to keep individual coins mined or auto exchange on a coin by coin basis. It's fairly new but getting better all the time. Seem to be making better returns there than I was just mining LTC.

As for adding in the cost to run my comp,  I was running it 24/7 anyways before I started mining, so to me that cost of power would be spent anyways.

Is the pool down?

Was out for about 3-5 minutes for me, just came back acording to my miners.

Please anybody can provide us a BTC/MHash/Day estimate?

Simply tell us what is your hashrate , and what was your earnings in past 24hours?

tnx.

440 KH/s, payout yesterday was BTC0.0080

Hope that answers your question.

GDC still keeps coming up a fair bit, again with very minimal returns ... any chance you could handicap it further or remove it for now? It seriously earns less than half the second lowest earning coins from what I've seen.

These rounds are all roughly 10 mins long,

Code:
817	MEC	00:09:34	0	0	8	600	0	0	0.000046 BTC
816 GDC 00:10:18 0 0 22 22000 0 0 0.000015 BTC
815 CAP 00:10:00 5 50 20 200 1 49 0.000032 BTC
814 CGB 00:09:50 0 0 5 12.5 0 0 0.000044 BTC
813 ALF 00:09:42 26 1300.1 60 3000.4 21.11 1278.99 0.00004 BTC
812 GDC 00:09:48 7 7000 0 0 188.68 6811.32 0.000005 BTC
811 CGB 00:10:32 0 0 3 7.5 0 0 0.000032 BTC

As you can see both times GDC came up it earned next to nothing ... this is at approx 440KH/s.

Other than that pretty happy with the pool ... keep up the good work.

I currently mine on middlecoin with around 350 kh/s. Why should I switch? Will I have a larger payout?

You have a similar level hashrate to me,  I run between 400 and 450 depending on if Im using my cpu to mine too.  I tried middlecoin ... and found it frustrating for a few reasons at my hashrate. The main one being that with middlecoin's difficulty setting I couldn't get a share in edgewise, and according to their stats I never got over the .2 MH/s recognised traffic ... where here on hashcows I am pretty damn sure I am getting my lower hashrate properly tracked, yes sometimes it is under, but just as often it is over, most of the time its pretty damn close to what my miners say they are doing.

I also did not like that for middlcoin you had to get to BTC0.01 before getting an kind of cashout, no cashout now option or otherwise,  I've still got mined income sitting on middlecoin ... doubt I will mine enough on it to ever get my first payout. On hashcows you can set your payout threshold as low as BTC0.001,  means pretty much a guarunteed daily payout at lower hashrates, had payouts 3 days running, each higher than the last.

Plus I like that it is a new pool, the admins are happy to take ideas to improve the pool for everyone,  yah it does have its growing pains, but overall I am far more confident in this pool than I was with middlecoin ... far more option of control, and tracking of your own stats than what middlecoin allows.

I can't give you any hard numbers as to time mined on middlecoin but I did mine for over 24 hrs there, and have a balance of BTC0.0041. I've made almost double that on my best day mining here, and even the first day I started mining here without a full 24 hrs of mining I had a payout of BTC0.0044.

This is clearly offtopic(sorry OP), but would you be so kind to share the parameters you used? I can't manage to get above 380 out of my 7870 XT. What a bad purchase!

What saves me is the used 6950 I got for 80€. After the bios modded, it gives me solid 490 Kh/s

I don't mind helping another miner out .... my settings are:

-I 13 --worksize 256 --thread-concurrency 8000 --gpu-engine 1175 --gpu-memclock 1365 -g 2

With fan speed set to 80% I am running at 76 degrees, wish I could afford a better second GPU to throw in my box, geforce 9600gt doesn't cut it for mining,  on a plus note though, I can still play diablo 3 on my mining rig using the second card Tongue.  Hope this info helps,

I've got what I think is a simple suggestion for the stats page.  Next to "My Est. Earnings" add a column for "this rate over 24hrs" or something along those lines where the time that round took is divided into the amount of time in a 24 hr period and multiplied by the Estimated Earnings column.  This gives a normalized view of each round that is easy to compare against previous rounds and other coins.  (Plus it will save me from having to do that on my side when a round completes Cheesy)

Example:
Code:
Round #	Coin	Length M.B.	M.C.	I.B.	I.C.	C.P.O.	C.A.T.	My Est. Earnings 24hrs@rate
693 GLD 00:25:16 0 0 53 2385.6 0 0 0.000265 BTC .01510 BTC
691 GDC 00:09:37 1 1000 25 25000 39.44 960.56 0.000036 BTC .00539 BTC
690 CGB 00:09:53 0 0 4 10 0 0 0.000071 BTC .01034 BTC
687 WDC 00:40:14 59 3702.07 0 0 96.15 3605.92 0.00035 BTC .01252 BTC

easy to see how each of those rounds compare even though they are different intervals of time - also, if you are storing what the Profitability number and difficulty were at the start of each round, this can give you additional data into what those numbers translate into for further tweaking of your handicap system.

I like this idea ... but instead of per day I would do it per hour. Also I would suggest changing the stats page to show 100 rounds instead of the current 30, or have an option to go back further in the stats. As it is, it seems there are some rounds that don't mature by the time they go off the stats page.

On another note ...  eeked another 55 KH/s out of my 7850 ... now running at about 405 KH/s, 445 KH/s with my cpu mining thrown in (stock clocked fx6300, debating overclocking it to get a bit more hashes out of it. Excited to see what my day's payout will be.

Both DMD and GDC have been handicapped.  We are looking to add a couple more coins (hopefully tonight) as replacements.

Seen DMD come up a few times since you posted this, is the handicap working?  GDC just came up too. Both with very low earnings again Sad.

636   GDC   00:07:51   0   0   5   5000   0   0   0.000003 BTC
635   DMD   00:08:03   0   0   5   5   0   0   0.000005 BTC
629   DMD   00:07:51   10   10   9   9   1.31   8.69   0.000017 BTC

Compared to:

630   ANC   00:12:10   0   0   8   40   0   0   0.00011 BTC
628   CGB   00:08:04   0   0   8   20   0   0   0.000083 BTC

Yea, we weren't happy with the way the estimates were, accuracy was kinda off. We are working on a new improved Estimate system that will give people a more "up to date" estimate. Nearmiss is hard at work, I assure you I crack the whip on him! Smiley

Just be patient with us folks we are listening to everything you guys are saying, the cows will only get better from here!

Glad to know its being worked on Smiley

I got my payout for my fist day mining on this pool last night, happy so far. With my single 7850 running 355KH/s, and my AMD fx6300 cpu mining at another 40 KH/s half the time when I wasnt using my cpu power for other stuff, eeked out .0044 BTC in earnings.

One thing has been concerning me since the payouts went out last night, when I check my balance under Est. Pending Exchange all it says is "coming-back-soon". Can't check how I'm doing so far for the day without it.

Other than that loving the pool so far, few small things I would suggest but I can tell you are keeping on top of things and just starting out so I'm not in a rush to see them.

One thing I would love to see is to be able to go back further than the last 30 rounds in the round stats, at a mininmum being able to go back 24hrs, would provide more transparency into my daily earnings.

Another I'd love to see is some hashrate over time and earnings est over time graphs, so at a glance I can see how my stuff is doing visually, instead of poring through the numbers.

Thanks for the great pool, keep up the good work Smiley
