1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [Phantomx] coin -> online currency [PNX] | Pow/PoS X11 Masternode on: January 05, 2018, 04:43:45 AM
PNX does not support masternode.conf file, and then no way to set up MN cold wallet  Smiley

Currently, the new cryptocoins are not using masternode.conf anymore.
Just ping us if you still have problem!

Jaime

Thank you for the write up.  Cool

One thing to add, it seems like you can do a cold wallet setup with this coin. That way the main wallet won't need to be on the masternode. Wait for masternode to sync. Add config file to masternode. Either start masternode from cold wallet (unlock wallet and click start) or from masternode itself (phantomxd masternode start). Then check status with phantomxd masternode debug.

I am having a problem editing the masternode information in the wallet under myphantomxnodes tab. When I Click edit, nothing happens. I need to edit the file there, as when I entered the ip address I forgot to add the port. Now when I run the masternode the port is listed as 0 instead of the correct port. How can I Fix this?  Huh

Thanks again

Is anything actually happening with this coin? All I see is sell orders getting cheaper. Why should I buy more of this coin? Please someone tell me.

It would seem so. The dev setup a community website and has stated that they will be talking to different exchanges soon. Not entirely sure what soon means but thats what was stated. Also, a gui wrapper is in the works too, which is good.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [duck] duckNote [ANN]. CryptoNote based. Anonymous and CPU only. on: June 12, 2014, 05:18:45 AM
simple GUI wrapper soon.

Hey Dev, have you contacted the people at bittrex? They seemed to want to talk to you about adding the coin.

Also, a GUI wrapper would be great.

Windows is actually the worst choice of OS for security, especially if you do not have Anti Virus. Next time, move a portion of your coins to cold storage so it cannot be stolen.

what if i told you i run win7 on a comp with about 30 different wallets; no antivirus, no firewall, no nothing.
last time i did a reinstall was 2.5 years ago, and was never infected.
all it takes is common sence, and u will never pick up infection (unless there realy is a zero-day exploit lol)

For the most part, yes, all it takes is common sense. But every once in a while, even the most sensible people can make a lapse in judgment. Smiley

This is very true. Its important to keep a watchful eye at all times and not to get complacent
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: can't get 0.9.1 to work. Is 0.8.6 safe? on: June 11, 2014, 06:32:13 PM
How do you get it to run?

Did you make the file executable? (RClick in GUI -> Properties -> check "allow execution as programm")

Yeah, I tried that. Doesn't work whether I double click, or enter 'bitcoin-qt' or 'bash bitcoin-qt' in terminal. It's kind of ridiculous that the feature to run the client easily was removed for 0.9.1 ... I actually went through many other steps from a thread here a while ago, but it didn't help. Sorry, can't recall the thread, and don't have time to 'develop' a fix.

So does anyone know enough about the fine details of the client updates to know whether I'm actually safe to do what I described with 0.8.6?

Not sure if this would help.
Have you tried chmod +x bitcoin-qt then ./bitcoin-qt.
The first command will set bitcoin-qt to be executable then ./bitcoin-qt will try to run it.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins are not user friendly what-so-ever on: June 11, 2014, 09:02:21 AM
I took the plunge and baught my first bitcoin last week. It was a long process but overall not a bad experience at Coinbase to buy it.
During the wait I looked to arm myself with knowledge about how to safely hang on to my coin, so I immediately withdrew it from Coinbase and sent it on over to Blockchain.info wallet; big mistake.
I spent some of my coin and have about .03 left, which equates to about $30 as of writing this. 48 hours ago I used blockchain.info's wallet to send it back to my Coinbase to cash it out, and it just sat there at unconfirmed. After hours of researching it, I concluded the wallet didn't add a transaction fee, so I had to wait 2 days for the transaction to be rejected(?) and reappear in my blockchain wallet.
This morning my coin was back in my blockchain wallet (yay!!!), so I attempt to send it to my Coinbase wallet again and this time I made sure I included a generous fee (as advised by the support at blockchain.info). 12 hours later I get the first confirmation, and to my dismay it now shows a double-spend error. I have no clue what to do at this point, and I am unsure 3+ more days of frustration are worth the effort to retrieve my $30. I have no idea what is going on, all I know is my $30 is unattainabe, and there is very little information on how to retrieve it.
I feel frustrated, ripped off, and overall had a absolute terrible experience.
The bad experience is not Bitcoin's fault, it's the online wallets which are the issue. There is a reason why you can download your own wallets to use.

If you are writing this like a review, you're doing a bad job.

You never bothered to get your own wallet (Kind of important for things such as these) and it looks like you did no research what-so-ever. Blame the wallets, don't say that Bitcoin isn't user-friendly. In reality, it is very friendly, assuming you know the right stuff to use.

I am not sure what else to say, other than do your research before starting. Once everything becomes finalised for the mainstream, then if something like this happens, you can complain. Otherwise, no.

Its always your fault with the bitcoin community. When you get scammed.. your fault. When your wallet gets hacked.. your fault. When the largest exchange runs off with your money.. your fault. When your funds get stole out of an escrow.. your fault. Bitcoin is not user friendly at all.. not even close.

This is sad but true. If the community is to grow things like keeping your bitcoin from being stolen need to be easier/less problematic.

There are some projects in the works that should make things easier but we will have to see how they work on release.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet backup on: June 11, 2014, 05:09:38 AM
I'm guessing you are using the blockchain.info app. There is an option that the site will email you a backup every time it is necessary to do so.

Other than that, more info please.

That may not be a good idea though. Considering someone can have their email compromised an attacker would have access to their wallet backup.

Also, anyone in between blockchain email servers and OP's email would also be able to intercept the wallet. Hopefully the wallet has a very strong unique password. Even with a strong password though, you are opening yourself up to a bruteforce attack without any type of notification until it's too late.

If you are using a blockchain wallet make sure you have a long unique password and that you are downloading the backup directly from their site and it is in your best interest to not use the email backup feature. Be sure to enable 2 Factor authentication while you are at it.

If you do wind up using the email backup feature be sure to use a strong unique password on the email account and to enable 2FA if you can.

So How much is Duck worth these days? It would only take me about 7 days to get 1million coins. Surely that's worth a 0.01 btc.

There is a trade thread over here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=633939.120
In full disclosure I have an open WTS post on there as well
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All my BTC were stolen from QT desktop wallet by this individual on: June 10, 2014, 08:46:21 PM
Did you encrypt your wallet with password?

Next time don't use Windows. Use Mac OS X or GNU/Linux. If you store large amount of bitcoin, you may use cold storage / paper wallet.

Was you using windows without an outbound firewall? (Windows firewall does not block Outbound connections and any undetected key-logger would send everything to the hacker without you even knowing)

the wallet had passphrase encryption.  Not sure about the firewall.  Kasperski and AVG were on and nether triggered.   ran Malwarebytes.org scan and it did flag a bunch of stuff that the AV programs missed.  Certainly learned a lesson about importance of paper wallets.

this character has posted to this community in the past.  I am hopeful moderators can DOXX him and hopefully together we can shame/coerce the guy to return the coins.

Sorry to hear about the lost coins.

Why are you running kaspersky and avg at the same time though? You shouldn't be running 2 antivirus's like that at the same time.

Often times they can negate each other. Then neither one is effective at catching anything. Just run kaspersky, make sure it is up to date and run a full scan.

You can also try running adwcleaner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ and combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/.

You should not be using the same wallet anymore until you figure out what happened on your machine(or at all really). At this point consider the machine that had the BTC stollen from compromised.

It may not be a bad idea to change passwords on any accounts you have as you may have a keylogger. Clean your computer first before changing the passwords as if you have a keylogger it will capture the new passwords too.

Hopefully you can get all of this figured out.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet backup on: June 10, 2014, 08:29:30 PM
According to Securing your wallet on bitcoin.it https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Securing_your_wallet#Securing_the_Bitcoin-QT_or_bitcoind_wallet by default there is only 100 keys in the key pool. You can manually specify a larger key pool with "-keypool" command line argument.

What this means is that after 100 transactions new keys are generated to replenish the old ones(by default). When this is done you need to have a backup of this new wallet as keys have changed. Your safest bet is to routinely back it up after creating new addresses or after sending a couple of times.

read over the securing your wallet section on the link as it will give a better explanation. Unless you regularly create new addresses or send you should be fine with backing up every few weeks/months.

Having too many backups won't hurt of course and be sure to test your backups on another machine to make sure the wallet.dat is still functioning correctly.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Apple opened the door for bitcoin apps? | #bitcoin #apple #crypto on: June 10, 2014, 05:52:54 AM
It is good to hear and will be interesting to see what new apps are submitted.  Cool

One area of concern would be if the wallets have anything to do with the app store 30% cut.  Roll Eyes

Hopefully it will not as the previous wallets did not have anything like that.

Also, even if new apps are submitted now it takes time for them to be reviewed. It may take months for some of the new wallets to actually hit the app store.

14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Noob Question on Mining on: June 06, 2014, 09:07:59 PM
If you start mining now, then 1600 euro for a 1 TH/s miner is a good price. If you have to wait, then it may not be a good price.

In general, mining is not suitable for a newbie unless you are doing it for fun or learning. It might be cheaper to buy bitcoins rather than to mine them, if that is your goal.

While it may seem like a good deal currently you have to take into account the continual difficulty increases. It may be difficult for the miner to pay itself off in the long term.

Bitcoinwisdom.com https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty has a diffulty chart. Take a look at the past few increases, it keeps increasing at a steady rate.

You can use a mining calculator like this one from bitcoinwisdom https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator to estimate how much you will generate with your miner. The thing to keep in mind is that it is just an estimate, things can change for the better or for worst quickly at times.

You are probably better off buying bitcoin directly at this point.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About virus! on: June 06, 2014, 08:36:00 PM
From experience Clamwin and avast had higher false positives than some of the other free options. Microsoft security essentials had lower false positives but its also not as good as avast at detecting actual viruses.

There are a few antivirus comparison sites you can can check out to see how they handle false positives. if you go to av-comparatives.orghttp://www.av-comparatives.org scroll down to reports and select charts and statistics http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php. From the test drop down take a look at the different types to see how different antivirus's compare. Once you select false alarm test you'll see which antivirus's are more prone to them in their tests.

av-test.org http://www.av-test.org/en/home/ also does its own tests but they bundle false positives with scan times, etc under usability. You would need to sort by usability, then click to each one see its specs.

The goal would be to find an antivirus that does well at everything. Detecting virus's but also is not prone to high amounts of false positives (many antiviruses will have false positives from time to time)

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Thoughts on the security of this method? on: June 05, 2014, 04:35:26 PM
Sounds pretty secure, I just store mine in encrypted files and keep them in a few places. There's always a chance you make loose the USB drive and don't forget its not reccomended to use flash drives for long term storage. Pen drives degrade over time.... Apparently  Shocked

Keep this in mind. Make sure to use a long unique password for the wallet and be sure to have multiple backups.

For added security you could put the wallet in an encrypted container as well.

The key here is multiple backups.

You wouldn't want a dodgy usb drive to be the reason you lost your bitcoin.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: my wallet is saying 66 weeks behind... on: June 05, 2014, 04:25:01 PM
If you are in a hurry to sent some coins away and don't want to wait days to resync, you can export you private keys from bitcoin core and import them into a light client such as Electrum or Multibit.

If you really would like to use bitcoin core, you can download a "bootscrap.dat" via bittorrent and import it into bitcoin core. It is usually only 2/3 weeks behind.

The link to the bootstrap.dat torrent is https://bitcoin.org/bin/blockchain/bootstrap.dat.torrent or you can find it on the bitcoin.org page download page https://bitcoin.org/en/download.

To find it yourself without trusting these links is to go to the bitcoin home page https://bitcoin.org/en/, then getting started, choose your wallet, bitcoin core download,bootstrap.dat.

WTS 0.08/6M/.492 Min 1M. You send first/escrow, we can figure it out.

Thanks.
I added it as 0.08 / 6M / 0.48 because 6M * 8 satoshi = 0.48 BTC

Thanks I missed that
