1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: October 04, 2014, 01:05:44 PM
I ordered 42 antminers S3. But 4 are not properly (1 half speed, the rest even worse). Offcourse I submitted a 'ticket' to webmaster@bitm... with all order numbers etc., a few days ago, but not an answer..? In the pre-sale fase they answered within 3 hours, but when seeking support they are 'busy'. Does anyone else encounter this problem? If yes. The pre-order scam is over and we got a new scam starting here..

It is likely nobody has been around to respond to messages for the past few days, as there is a public holiday / festival right now - National Day, October 1 - 7.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: found block while mining on nicehash - what does that mean? on: September 02, 2014, 12:15:04 PM
How can you tell that it is an altcoin block that was found? They are bitcoin miners, right? I am using the bitcoin stratum. I am confused.

Best Share = 753,489 => not high enough for Bitcoin => must be an altcoin.

When you mine with nicehash, you are being paid for shares by somebody else, who has some control over what work is being done.  You could be mining on any SHA256 based cryptocurrency.  It makes no difference to you as the payment for your shares is made by Bitcoin.

if you hook up a kill-a-watt meter to your device and if it indicates that the draw is 400w and if you have it hooked up to a 500w rated psu, does that not equate to a 80% load ?

No.  80% load is 400W drawn from the DC side.  At 85% efficiency, the PSU will draw 470W from the wall.  Assuming linear efficiency, which is not accurate, therefore these numbers are just estimates any way.  But if the PSU has a nice graph, you can get a good idea of the efficiency for the particular load in question.

http://www.blackarrowsoftware.com/store/160ghash-mining-solution.html

"912 Ghash Bitfury Mining solution"

"$1250"

"Availability: In Stock"

"USED, Non-refundable"

And at ~50W per board you're looking at nearly 1200W for just over 900GH.

So, quite similar to one "half" X3 Tongue

Must make an X3 worth only slightly more than $2500.

They have plenty of money, they're just running out of money that they don't want to steal. I have never to this day heard a single report of a customer having paid BA directly in bitcoins having seen their payment ever leave the payment address supplied by BA.

Certainly true for my payment - I have received a shipment, but the btc payment is still just sitting there...
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 19, 2014, 11:53:04 AM
Anyone got the final power specs for these miners?

It is looking like it's 1W/Gh/s at the wall.  Slightly worse, even.  Apparently it is possible to make it better, but I haven't seen any documentation on the voltage setting yet so it'll have to wait.

Seems I will have to take one of my units apart any way, which I will do after the difficulty change later, should be interesting.
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 19, 2014, 01:00:54 AM
Stable?

Well, not terrible except for one unit that constantly slows down by 10% (looking at cgminer, chip 4 has an issue).  Meh.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 16, 2014, 12:35:56 PM
One would assume that we have access to their modified code and driver for cgminer which the cgminer license stipulates, however they have ignored our requests for making that code available. I am considering what direction to take now about that license violation.

I have often wondered about this, it's really not on for a hardware manufacturer to misuse open source software in this way.
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 14, 2014, 11:29:42 PM
@elemental there is a web page you can go to, to simplify finding the IP address without using the LCD  http://prospero.blackarrowsoftware.com/ (although that's not much use to you now).
As there were lots of documented problems in getting the LCDs for the Prospero, it is indeed behind the curve in terms of being set up ready to use out of the box.  It's supposed to show you the stats screen after boot, but instead you have to activate it manually.  It was discussed here, for the X-1 http://ecointalk.net/topic/1221-logic-ethos-lcd-wifi-x1s-shipped/?p=15968

It also sounds like you need to update the software.  See http://ecointalk.net/topic/1237-v1-updating-problems/

Thank you, all is OK, I was more documenting my initial thoughts as I got the units set up.  They're running v1.8 so I think an update happened automatically and then everything started working properly.  Or better, at least.

ssh ba@192.168.X.X
password = ba

Thank you very much :-)

Finally I have good news, for me at least.  Took delivery of X3 today.  Direct BA order paid 3 Dec.

The units certainly look nice and came with a power cable (for what that's worth, but still nice).  There are a few issues, so even with it being nearly six months late (and worth maybe 25% of the purchase price), it doesn't seem to be a finished product.

Power on without ethernet connected = it doesn't work, fans run at full speed (and it's incredibly noisy!) but nothing happens.  LCD lights up, nobody home.  Buttons do nothing.
Connect ethernet whilst powered = weird stuff happens, but it doesn't connect to the network.
Power cycle = problematic, PSU shows "alert" indicator but system not responsive.  Fixed by turning off the power and removing the PSU.

LCD seems wasted right now.  It runs Android 4.2.2 but does nothing interesting.  Leave it for a while, the screen will turn off (like any Android phone/tablet) but then it doesn't seem to be possible to activate it again.  None of the buttons below the LCD seem to do anything except Power, which does turn off the miner - but then you have to actually power-cycle the system to get it up again!  At least when I did it this way, the system did come back without issue.

Web interface - system defaults to using DHCP, which has the benefit of working for most people who may not have 192.168.1.x subnet, but means that you need to find it!  Once you've done one, it will find others by itself, which is handy.  My router lists the miners as "android-0123456789abcdef" (unique 16-digit hex code).  If you don't have DHCP?  I think the answer is probably get DHCP!

By default, device starts mining.  No pools are configured, but it mines.  Possibly "benchmark" mode - speed is higher than you get in reality, but who knows really?  I can't get a terminal session to look at the configuration directly, log in is not the same as for the web interface.

Sync Network option is either flaky or just doesn't work.  I tried it, in order to copy the configuration from first unit to the second, and although it appeared to work in the web interface the second unit didn't actually get the configuration.  I ended up configuring it separately any way.

At default "1000Hz" setting it's using just over 1kW.

If this had been delivered in March, I'd be quite pleased.  But it wasn't.

I'm wondering why they have sent me my S3s with EMS instead DHL that I choose at checkout?..  Huh

I got DHL instead of UPS...  Mistakes in shipping?  Or maybe they've gone back to doing it randomly, but that would be a bit naughty. ;-)
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 11, 2014, 12:05:08 PM
Sooooo, apparently DHL tried to deliver my X-3 to me earlier today, sadly I'm out of town. The funny part is, not only did BA dishonor the refund request, that was initiated well over a month ago, they also broke an agreement to have my miner hosted for 12 months. It seems that after their poster child Jumbley, I might be one of the first recipients of an X-3, not because I'm such a good customer, but to screw me over even more. This shows appaling malicious intent, not only by breaking the law on the refund requests, but also by breaking an agreement/contract of having my miner hosted.

Just to show how ridiculous this is, my order is #2360, placed on Dec. 3rd, paid for on Dec. 5th in fiat. I'm pretty damn sure I'm not the 2nd, heck not even in the top ten of all X-3 orders. Yet my miner is already in my hometown at DHL and was attempted to be delivered. I'm sure there are people on this board with orders in the sub 1000 range, who paid way, waaaaaay earlier as I did, I'm pretty much one of the last batch 1 customers. Yet here we are, situation as it is.
...

Oh what a surprise, this is what I've been expecting for some time now...
My order is supposedly going to ship "in the next few days," but that's what they tell everyone who asks anything now so who really knows?
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 07, 2014, 12:41:09 PM
I resolved the support login issue by going through the password reset; at least that did work for me without a problem.  Begs the question as to why it was necessary though, it's disconcerting to say the least that my password had seemingly been changed without my knowledge.

So, I managed to create a ticket to ask about the ASIC exchange, because I want them to confirm the shipping date (they claim next day, but this doesn't seem likely) - one day later and no reply yet.  But again, they took the time to change the priority from High to Normal...
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 06, 2014, 08:11:55 PM
Black Arrow - why can I not log in to your site?

Notice You have been successfully logged in.

seems to work just fine for me

Hmmm it's just me then.  Maybe they reset my password to stop me writing to support?  Not that I've done much of that.
I'll see what happens if I go for the "lost password" option.  Which would be silly, because I absolutely know that I'm not getting it wrong.  Meh.

Black Arrow seem to have a problem with people logging in to their site (again).
Or is it just me?

so not a single X3 has shipped out yet? And BA promised by end July 2014.  Sad

A few have,a couple guys on ecointalk have them

One direct order from BA, for an X3.  Order number #10x late September 2013 IIRC, delivered 5 August 2014.
A ways to go yet, it would seem...

Whut?? I have order #1x and still have not received any X3.. so seems unlikely, I paid really early and still waiting no replies at all Sad

...I thought as much, the received X3s are only by certain people, they don't seem to be sticking to the order sequence.  They're obviously not shipping out in any great numbers or the forums would be full of people saying they've got their devices!  Don't you think?  It's all just very suspicious and I am beginning to think that I should not hold off in pursuing legal avenues to recovery any longer.

Of course, MS claims to have been sent a number of X3s although they don't appear to have received them yet...?  But in any case, it makes no difference to those of us who ordered direct from Black Arrow last year!

I know this will have been asked before but for some reason I'm not getting any results back.

What is the UK VAT on Average for the 2X S3 ?

Thanks

Around GBP 110-120 IIRC (edit: including the GBP 11 brokerage fee for UPS, others may vary).
