Just store what you have in a safe place and stop watching the charts and the price.
Check it again in a couple of years.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Anyone know how to bip38 encrypt an already-generated private key? on: November 20, 2013, 11:41:51 PM
Try: http://www.bit2factor.org

Click on "Generate & Encrypt Private Key" at the bottom, then provide a Passphrase and Private Key.

You can download and use it locally if you don't trust it: https://github.com/mannkind/bit2factor.org

bitcoinaverage.com is probably the best option available right now.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this the only way to process bitcoin transactions without Bitpay? on: October 17, 2013, 01:48:14 AM
To answer your question:
NO. This is not the only way to process bitcoin transactions without Bitpay!
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crowd Funding Bitcoin (Robocoin) ATMs on: September 21, 2013, 09:03:39 PM
There's actually two people (groups) who are doing this. One showcase a prototype ATM at a Bitcoin convention recently.

One is trying to raise funds in the Lending section of the forum. I forget the name...

Main issues seems to be the cost, they were saying each one costs like $40,000, and the other issue is complying with the legal side of it since it would be acting as a money dispenser.

It's good to know that there are people working on this. I'm sure there's a lot of work involved, but if they can get past bureaucracy, I don't think the cost will prove to be a major obstacle.

I'd be interested to check these guys out if you have a website or forum link?
6  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Want to buy BTC with my paypal. on: September 21, 2013, 11:29:46 AM
Even if you send the money as a gift, you can still force a chargeback (up to 30 days later) by claiming that your account was hacked. Even if Paypal refuse to issue the chargeback (which they wouldn't) you could have your bank issue the chargeback instead. I'm sure there is someone out there that will take a chance on you, but i doubt they'll do it for a few thousand dollars worth.

Technically, even bank wires and SEPA transfers can be reversed, but it's still the safest way.

I think a bank wire is safe after 36 hours, and a SEPA transfer is safe after 3 days.

BTC-E, Twitter & Google+
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wallet / Christmas Card on: September 21, 2013, 05:17:56 AM
This is a good idea, but making it secure might be an issue. The only way I can think of securing it is to use something like bit2factor.org, or just making the cards printable so that the "trusted" sender could print the paper wallet onto the card themselves.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crowd Funding Bitcoin (Robocoin) ATMs on: September 21, 2013, 04:12:18 AM
They're 20k a pop, they need a location, an internet connection and I would imagine that they need some maintenance to keep them running. So, they need to see a fair bit of volume to cover the costs, but if you had a few good locations I think you could see a good return.

If you offered a reasonable profit sharing scheme for investors (or funders), I don't think it'd be too hard to get fully funded. But, there's quite a lot of work involved.

If I wasn't totally flat out with work i'd be seriously thinking about it. I'm actually supprised that nobody's doing it already, maybe someone's thought it through and hit a snag?
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hey - couple specific noob questions on: September 21, 2013, 03:16:57 AM
Whats the difference between 1 and 5 confirmations?

4 Blocks.

So, the "attacker" would need to solve 5 blocks in a row faster than the rest of the network in order to double-spend the funds. It would cost a lot to attempt it and the chances of success would be very slim. I think after 6 confirmations you can consider the transaction safe from a double-spend.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Crowd Funding Bitcoin (Robocoin) ATMs on: September 21, 2013, 03:02:02 AM
Has anyone considered crowd funding a bunch of those new Robocoin ATMs?
https://robocoinkiosk.com/

It's not something i'd like to setup myself (i'm busy enough), but surely it's viable?
If nothing else, those machines would make western union branches obsolete.
Bitcoin ATM shares anyone?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Exchange site you like best? on: September 21, 2013, 02:39:23 AM
I went to BTC-e for the trading, but stayed for the trollbox. Wink
Exactly!

How long does it normally take to confirm 1 on blockchain?

You should get 1 confirmation within about 10 minutes.

Is it advisable to wait until that single confirmation has occurred before parting ways?

It's advisable to wait for at least 1 confirmation, but it's probably safe before. Have a read of this to get an understanding of double spending: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Double-spending

Personally, I judge it by the value of the transaction, because nobody's gonna try and double spend for small amounts.
So, something like this:
If it's less than £10, it's probably safe at unconfirmed
If it's less than £100, it should be safe at 1 confirmation
If it's between £100 and £1000, maybe you should wait for 3 or 4 confirmations
If it's over £1000, wait for 5 or 6 confirmations.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: thedarkdad3 on this forum is a Scammer.. Watch out people!! on: September 21, 2013, 01:43:00 AM
Would you mind explaining how this guy scammed you?
I don't doubt that it's true, i'd just like to know if it could have been avoided.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Quick Introduction on: September 20, 2013, 11:59:09 PM
Hi all,
This is my first (kinda pointless) newbie post, so just a quick introduction.

Over the past few months a colleague and I have been slowly plugging away at our own bitcoin project, and earlier today that project received a name. It's called Una Nos. We're hoping to have something up and running early next year, so I'll post some more information about it soon.
