If that's how people here feel, why not use the forum "Trust" feature to indicate your trust or the lack thereof? Sure, many choose to scoff at it for this or that, but hey, it's there for a reason.

Well, then, i believe it will not be unreasonable of someone like me to ask how what-used-to-be-my-money is going to be used, after all, now that you've made it perfectly clear that i'll never see it again. You probably don't remember that, but i expressed hope that it'll be used for charity, not personal enrichment.

Also, for your amusement, i'll post an excerpt from The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Quote from: Douglas Addams
Mr. Prosser said, “You were quite entitled to make any suggestions or protests at the appropriate time, you know.”

“Appropriate time?” hooted Arthur. “Appropriate time? The first I knew about it was when a workman arrived at my home yesterday. I asked him if he’d come to clean the windows and he said no, he’d come to demolish the house. He didn’t tell me straight away of course. Oh no. First he wiped a couple of windows and charged me a fiver. Then he told me.”

“But Mr. Dent, the plans have been available in the local planning office for the last nine months.”

“Oh yes, well, as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn’t exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them, had you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything.”

“But the plans were on display...”

“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”

“That’s the display department.”

“With a flashlight.”

“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”

“So had the stairs.”

“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.’”
...And then the house gets knocked down and Earth is destroyed, yadda, yadda, yadda. Happy end.

Thanks for the decency lesson: I am learning something every day.. Just so you know, no company has "amassed" any bitcoin in this "operation" since the bitcoins are owned by the wallet holders and by the hacker. The fact that you did not file a claim in a reasonable due time does not in any way validate your suspicion because in the meantime all those who did file a claim and gave us discharge by approving their payouts got their refund.

I apologize if i offended you. That was a remarkably poor choice of words on my part. I will wait until the resolution of this story before making any further comments.

I was clear in logic (if not in documentation once Bitcoin-Central got a hold of it) that Instawallet was not a satisfactory solution for 'long terms storage of signifiant[sic] amount', but that was more due to the 'significant amount' aspect of things.  The solution was never marketed as anything but an ideal solution for long term storage of insignificant amounts, and I have no trouble imagining many people with limited attention doing so. In fact, certain development efforts revolved around creating Instawallet account and funding them on the behalf of others.

I happen to be one of the examples for that, which so happens to be the reason i don't even know the exact balance i have lost on this ordeal, through no fault of my own, except, maybe, of being overly trusting. Hopefully, i have wisened by now.

I consider the coins lost, because i managed to both miss the deadline for claims and not have any proof, cryptographic or otherwise, for actually owning the wallet. One would hope that sending the request from one's personal email box, from his own private domain, signed by his own GPG key would have some weight, but since i have got no reply whatsoever, it's hard to have any illusions.

One would also hope that the company in question will at least have the decency to use the bitcoins amassed from this operation on some sort of charity.

3) If you want to get your hands on as many bitcoins as you can you should...

Not visit faucets, not look for giveaways, not beg, not mine, but...

Get a regular job, don't buy unnecessary shit and save in bitcoins. Sorry, but the "easy solutions" lead nowhere like always in life. Register on an exchange and buy BTC for fiat. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

I can certainly support that one. I've been playing with bitcoins since when they were 10$ each, and the only time i got anything worth mentioning from faucets was the time i reported a serious bug found in one of them.

Faucets only exist because it's obvious anyone can afford giving away a tenth of a cent without thinking too much, even if they don't get five to ten times as much via advertising.

You want to get paid? Go and do something useful for others. That's how the economy works, after all.
