1  Local / Pilipinas / Just wondering, any Cebu based people setting up Pool? on: March 10, 2018, 02:40:50 AM
Wanted to try and collaborate on this one. Just curious. Anyone tried? Is it risky? Costly?

Thanks!

You never know Smiley Dogecoin started as a joke. I'm not fond of Pesobit but if @Dabs will make one, even if it's a joke, I will try to use it. Heck I even mined BBSCoin and there's still no sell value. Cheesy I hope it'll be POW + Masternode. Later on if this POS is successful, we can use it for the later blocks. Let's see, this will be an awesome adventure. I'm still in a very early stage of reading, and mind you, I'm crap at C and I don't intend to make a serious one but it's tempting to learn so yeah, we'll see. I will be watching this thread. Best regards everyone!
3  Local / Pilipinas / Re: How much does it cost to mine your own bitcoin? on: March 09, 2018, 05:38:35 PM
Just a silly curious thing, are you going to hold a seminar for people  to get oriented with Bitcoin (or cryptocurrency in general)? And you haven't been searching the net for what to do with mining? I'm not trying to be a jerk here but I love people doing good things in cryptocurrency and I admire the enthusiasm. I just hope that, please, if you are trying to convince people to go with cryptocurrency, make sure to do research. Bitcoin is a bit complicated, the paper released at its heart is not really a cash system but a solution to double spending. So we can use it to solve problems like ownership (money, or lot, or even records that can't be tampered). I must admit I'm not the person to do a seminar although I'm still trying to convince people around me to try cryptocurrency. And hopefully learn more.

Honestly I haven't started mining Bitcoin myself, too costly for me to buy ASIC machines. So I only have few GPUs mining altcoins (alternative coins). To start with altcoin mining, about 70k will do. With Bitcoin, apart from having the miner, you need power supply and a sound proof container, it could be so loud. Some cooling perhaps, you can check Youtube videos on someone mining with S9.

In addition, you can still mine altcoins and sell it for Bitcoin. Say you mine new launched coins with GPU, you can do a little reading about what's best to mine with your GPUs. You can even calculate your profit for some listed coins here. There are also coins that are friendly to CPU, you can mine it with your i7 machine, i5 even. Monero for example is one, or other variant of cryptonote.

Again it depends to your liking, so for the price, I can't really say exactly how much as I haven't tried buying S or L series miners. But you can check the net and roughly estimate it to be around 300K pesos, or even more. As for electricity, S9 consumes about 300 watts? If this is true then it's efficient, maybe not much electricity about 6 1050 GTX but the price of S9 is worrying.

Lastly, for maintenance. I'm afraid we don't have local supplier for these machines and repairing it if broken can be costly. Just my 2 cents, hope you forgive my curiousity. Thanks!
4  Local / Pilipinas / Re: 21 Million bitcoin? on: March 07, 2018, 10:09:59 AM
No, 21 million is roughly the limit of the coins. It is proposed here,  that for every 210k blocks, the subsidy be halved from the initial value of 50 coins. So a python program here can roughly estimate it to be about that 21M coins. At about block 1260001, the reward will be 0, meaning no coins will be added.
5  Local / Pilipinas / Re: [Speculation]Is Facebook joining the blockchain tech and launching its own coin? on: March 07, 2018, 07:47:28 AM
This could be a game changer!!! Imagine if facebook accepts credit card to buy FacebookCoin and a page selling take-out foods accepting this coin. And maybe your Company Page sends you directly the coins for payroll thus allowing you to buy foods, etc. Or a delivery/pickup goods like online grocery stores accepting this coin. You can even sell your services on Facebook with this coin. Most companies have their facebook page, it's something of a necessity these days. So integration might not be difficult, adaptation is seemless. Now if you can get a page selling clothing or a page with like AirBnb where you can pay your landlord with this coin, it'll be awesome! Possibility is endless. One more thing difficult maybe in our country will be transpo. But the basics are solved, food, clothing and shelter. This could be the bitcoin killer app Smiley

But still remains the difficult part of cryptocurrency is getting everyone, I mean everyone, to adapt. Like our farmers selling their goods directly. And there's trust issue, sending coins is one way. There's no guarantee that you get the payment back, but of course, Facebook might have thought of this and provide a service, like Paypal where you can file a complaint. Also the difficulty of using it, imagine an 80 year old grandma wants to send coins to her granddaughter saying, do you want to send 20 coins to this "e19ac296-3bfc-4a12-9970-0be67b8fc159" coin address, and please enter your Spending private key, lol. But CoinsPH seems to have got it, like send amount to someone. They are keeping the secret spending key themselves, just like banks.

So again, maybe it's good if we look into this from time to time. But I'm not sure, maybe it'll be a long way to go, who knows! Smiley
