1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 21, 2018, 01:56:37 AM
Guys, is there someone who has successfully paid for Antminer S9's with USD? I see a lot of issues with statuses and some minor differences in the posts. I am planning to stockpile some cash in my USD account so I can quickly react if they open a new batch next week.

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens with my US wire. Timeline etc... I agree though that the best option would be to take the fiat and
buy BCH for a smoother transaction. Just have it ready. That was my path until I jumped the gun and actually captured one in my cart. Didn't have much of an option at that point. Felt I'd better buy it.

I paid for my L3+'s with a wire transfer.  After the transfer was complete you have to upload the confirmation from your bank to BitMain.  After I did that it changed to paid in about 3 days.

By confirmation i assume you mean what they call "transfer proof" - a pic of the actual wire page?
The only other thing I saw that was unique, (that I'm wondering about) was in the instructions from Bitmain it says, choose "pay all fees" when you wire payment?
I was warned by the Bofa bank person that Bitmain's bank may deduct a small fee from the total (after we sent the wire - mind you) and I do see complaining about the wires showing up short a couple of bucks. But BofA were adamant about not having an option for pay all fees. So I hope I don't get clipped that 2nd wire for 10$

Hi guys,

Re: Bitmain, what's the ballpark timeline for US wire transfers going from "unpaid" to "paid"?  I've sent the wire and uploaded proof. I can see it in my account.
Today will be the second day after sending proof and it still says "Unpaid". Not freaking out - just wondering what others have experienced as far as wires go.
Btw, i used BofA and it is my first time ordering with them.

Thanks
I have exactly same problem
and already created ticket for their customer support
 Sad

Good luck. This being my first time ordering from Bitmain I'm hoping someone will reply here that's been through the US wire transfer process
to give a little insight on the time line. I'm just being proactive and want to make sure I'm not missing something along the way.

5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Btc - Some entity is whacking the bid into strength? Look @5min chart btc on: January 14, 2018, 05:17:01 AM
Take a look @the 5 min btc chart regarding coinbase exchange on say, tradingview.com or what ever you use. Now zoom out a week or two. Get a bigger overview of whats happening on the week.

What I think I'm seeing regarding btc is,
on the regular for the past couple of weeks someone is actively whacking/hitting the bid every time some upward pressure gets going. Yes you could say that's trading but..... its really consistent and these patterns look professional to me and, it seems to be just enough selling to shake the tree. Then, once the selling stops the upward pressure starts again.
I could be wrong, but take a long look at the bid and ask on Gdax. Set it to dollar aggregation and then look at the 5 min chart. Someone or some entity sells to the bid like clockwork. Huh?? - but always just enough to shake the tree... not too much but just enough so slow the price down.  Wink Its interesting.

And as I scratch my head pondering, on top of all.... I would surmise that due to thousands of people joining exchanges everyday (around the world no doubt) that the upward pressure on price should be ridiculous. Most people can't wait to buy! So once their account is funded they buy at what ever price btc is at. Most new to trading buy the ask - hence upward price pressure. There is no way that millions of people suddenly know how to trade correctly. nfw

so I ask myself: Who gains by slowing the rise of btc's price. I have theories but..... I don't think its linked to the futures but who knows. The Ball Street Squid is now at the party so...... Undecided

And I'm aware that one reason charts look like this (during digestion/consolidation periods), is that many people who bought during the run up to 20k and are underwater just want their money back. So once they get close to break even they just sell in hopes of getting that money back. Sure that can be happening too, but my gut tells me that there is now a bit of price shenanigans happening.

Just a thought. What do you guys see?

@gurugarzah

Thank you sir. Very well explained. Your wording has helped me a great deal.
I'm getting a much better picture of the commitment needed for longevity.
3 miners then 6 miners then 12 then 18 then 25......... passion vs sickness vs the curve!!!!
ha ha

 Cool - time to think

Thanks again

Block Reward 12.5 ----------------- So wrong it disqualifies your thread Ok, I respect that - help me out?Huh

Thank you guys I appreciate the replies. I’m here to learn.
I’ve been the green guy before with other business - nothing new.
I  share my knowledge with my other endeavors and I’ll share down the
road with this as well. I’m not the guy who impulsed bought the s9 on Ebay this month. nfw!

I know with out a doubt I will look back at my first post here and laugh - prob within six months for it's naiveté.

With that said, reading back over my first post I realize I'm sort of asking you guys to give a yes or no on the golden goose so let me apologize if that offends anyone who’s been in this awhile. I understand that treads on thin ice now after re-reading the post.

I did assume the online calculator was as basic as basic goes and philipma1957 I’m glad you replied. It gave me a chance to remember that situations are different for everyone. Certainly knowledge and experience plays a big part of how much efficiency one can get out of each miner.

So would you be kind enough to offer some clarifications on the calculations I posted. Ball park it for the newb perhaps. I entered those numbers to see where the calculator stood and obviously by your reaction they are well off.

Planning for worse case:
I jumped the difficulty up and added a few more watts for variances. The BTC price I put in is perhaps a strong base price if things go south - again worse case scenario over the next year. The block reward is what they recommend. now is it — wrong for newbs or wrong for seasoned? - does it depend on the pool?
Basing the machine I'll likely purchase @12T seems to be a good average - new miners coming out
(keeping it simple - its all based on one miner)
Pool fee’s 2% (again worst case) I’ve read the Pool threads and agree with staying local like - Kano’s pool. I’ll learn more about pools once the miners are plugged in. I’m here to support smaller entities for sure.

Anyways, hopefully folks can chime in on this. Thanks guys/gals.
I’m trying to keep it short and simple but…. ice coffee, man!!!  Grin Grin Grin
8  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / s9 Can we discuss real world numbers? on: December 30, 2017, 02:40:16 PM
Hi guys new to forum but long time holder/user/believer of btc.
New to mining and trying to get a good understanding of the mining world at the moment - digest the numbers
to see if this could be something I could add to my income on a realistic level.
I've got a work shed just beggin for loud fans!
It seems machine Fomo is on! Ebay wow! Those numbers don't make sense to me.(if your buying more than one)
(Yeh sorry, another schlep in the frey. I'm all set up to do battle
on blokforge and the likes.)  Grin But I'm def easin in slowly.

Would it be possible to discuss some real world numbers?
If a few of you experienced guys would be so kind to share your experience and two cents I'm
sure it would be appreciated by many. and newbies - what is your take also?

so IMO (just an opinion) at the moment with btc looking like a 6-8k target on the weekly
(not that I'm wishing for that)
Keeping it simple I've done calculations like this based on owning one machine - worst case:

Cost: $3500
Hash Rate: 12,000
Watts: 1500
$/kw .12 (my elec costs)
Difficulty: 24 (yes it's at 18 now)
Block Reward 12.5
Btc price: 6k
Pool 2%
Roi: 1226 days

After elec the calculator says $7 per day and $85 profit per month and so on. "Coinwarz"

How accurate are these online calculators in the real world? (consider the space already built out with no
overhead just elec, a scenario where the machine runs with no repairs needed)

Is this as simple as plug and play? - well.... you know what I mean.

Can I really expect to plug say (one) s9 in and
start making (based on the obvious overhead factors pertaining to me, elec, etc...) 10-20 dollars a day?
Or at this level is it more of a break even hobby for tinkerers that love to tinker?

And perhaps is there a target number of GH/s everyone at home tries to achieve overall (total machine count etc...)
to make this a worth while endeavor?

Thanks for your time and reply's here. It means a lot to newbs like me! Hope this isn't to long for the forum
