1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Halong Mining / DragonMint are now coming out with their own Blake(2b) ASIC on: January 20, 2018, 05:39:22 AM
Interesting (weird?) to see that they're selling (or at least developing) a new miner before they've released the Bitcoin miner they have. (Not here to debate the existence of that miner. I did pre-order for April but that's for a different thread...)

Just thought I'd share this video for people who might be interested or on the fence about getting into ASIC miner wth Bitmain or Halong Mining/Dragonmint where VoskCoin mentioned that Siacoin may be getting forked soon so that Bitmain's hardware will not be able to mine that new fork. He says it's off of their discord. Not to put any words in his mouth or to say for sure what will happen, just thought it was good information he shared that could effect how viable these new Blake(2b) miners may or may not be in the future when they're released ("If they're released" in the case of Halong)

He shows the chats almost exactly at the 8 minute mark.

2  Other / Beginners & Help / GPU Mining - Does a PCIe breakoutboard fit on any server psu? on: January 16, 2018, 07:29:59 AM
I'm trying to build a gpu mining rig with 12 GTX 1060s and want to use a server PSU to power the GPUs and risers. I found this breakout board which should have enough slots to power the risers and GPUs if I get two.
I was going to get this 1000W power supply: https://www.ebay.com/itm/182995802417 which says that is a DPS 800GB A (model?) because the breakout board says that it supports it.

I would much rather get this power supply: https://www.ebay.com/itm/643933-001-643956-101-HP-1200W-Common-Slot-Platinum-Plus-Hot-Plug-Power-Supply/263417725924?epid=1604523681&hash=item3d54eb83e4:g:pGgAAOSwSdZaRVPc

The breakout board doesn't say that it supports DL380, however I thought that the DL 380 server power supplies were also common slot so I should be able to put the breakout board on it. My question is will this work or should I go with the DPS 800 GB A power supply and in general can I use this breakout board with the HP Proliant power supplies?

Just looking for help so I don't get burned (I already accidentally bought 2 power supplies that I'll have to return and pay shipping for).
Thanks in advance for sharing your insight and expertise
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Advice on powering 12 GTX 1060 3GB on: January 15, 2018, 10:01:59 PM
I just got two 760W power supplies to power a 12 GTX 1060 3GB rig. The motherboard is an ASRock H110 Pro BTC+.
The power supplies are: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139042

I just realized however that the power supply looks like its a 20 pin connector in one slot labeled ATX and the other is like 10 pins. Will I be able to power the motherboard with a 20 pin plug? I was going to get a dual psu adapter so they both get the on signal at the same time but now I'm not sure if these power supplies will work for what I need.

My other issue is that it looks like I'm going to have to use one of the PCIe slots to power the CPU which means I can only power 11 GPUs. Am I correct in thinking that?

Thanks for your help
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many watts can wires in 6 pin to dual 8pin splitters handle? on: January 15, 2018, 06:06:32 AM
That's a good note about the ATX PSU's, I hadn't noticed that, thanks.
It looks like I'll look into a splitter with 16 awg cable and use seperate pcie plugs if power a card with two power plugs. Thanks!
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How many watts can wires in 6 pin to dual 8pin splitters handle? on: January 15, 2018, 05:08:51 AM
I'm looking to power my next rigs with a server PSU instead of ATX style ones to save some $$$ and use 220V. My concern is with how I would power the GPUs. I have RX 570 (8pin power) and GTX 1070 Ti(8 and 6 pin).
I'm looking at PSUs like this one:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8U258K3377
and a breakout board like this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Breakout-Board-10pcs-Cable-for-HP-1200w-750w-Power-Module-Mining-Ethereum/322886444267?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908110712%26meid%3De31e7eccddc64a128ff25ba41bdb4096%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D30%26sd%3D222589581252&_trksid=p2385738.c100677.m4598

(sorry about the link length). With an ATX PSU I can power the GTX 1070 Ti off of one 8pin slot in the PSU and the 8pin to dual 6+2 that it comes with. Would I be able to do this with a 6 pin to dual 8pin splitter? It's an 18 awg wire but from everything I've read, 6pin PCIe can handle 75W and 8pin can handle 150W. Does that apply to the breakout boards to the server PSU? I read up on as much as I could but couldn't find answers to how safe it is to say run on GPU (like a 1070Ti or 1080Ti) that requires two 6+2 connectors off a single 6pin PCIe connection on a server PSU breakout board.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

thank you!!
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / When to install GPU drivers if going to use SMOS on: January 04, 2018, 06:11:58 PM
Hi, I'm building my first rig to get into mining and I think I've hooked everything up, and put the SMOS image on the flash drive using HDDRawCopy. My question is do I just plug in the usb to the motherboard and boot up? Is there anything I have to do with drivers or BIOS settings now (before plugging in the USB drive with SMOS on it and turn the power supply on)?

I tried searching for "GPU Drivers" and "Driver install" on this forum but I couldn't find anything. On almost every complete mining rig how-to there's a step dedicated to the OS (Linux or Windows) and drivers but I haven't found anything like that with SMOS. I'm just looking for help to get into this really exciting stuff. I've built a personal computer and installed drivers from the manufacturer, etc, but assumptions about my knowledge should probably stop there. I have never turned the power supply on. I've literally just assembled everything, sorry if this is too repetitive...just being cautious. I love reading the stuff on here so I look forward to any help

Thanks!
The Rig is 3 GTX 1070 Ti on a Z270 SLI Plus if that changes anything
