1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core 0.9.2.1 on Centos 6.5 on: September 08, 2014, 07:48:52 PM
Thanks for the link.

But I think I'll stick to running an older version of bitcoin core for now.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core 0.9.2.1 on Centos 6.5 on: September 08, 2014, 05:27:45 PM
Thanks for the link.

Tried to build bitcoin core on my centos 6.5, but haven't been able so far to sort out the dependencies.
Also, haven't found any centos specific instruction for compiling. Are there any?

I hope they would put together a bitcoin core client for RHEL/Centos 6.x because it's going to be around for a long time. EOL is currently set at 2021.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin core 0.9.2.1 on Centos 6.5 on: September 07, 2014, 08:21:31 AM
I'm trying to run the latest bitcoin core on my centos 6.5 server, but I get the following
symbol lookup error: .../bitcoin-0.9.2.1-linux/bin/64/bitcoin-qt: undefined symbol: _ZN10QTextCodec11validCodecsEv

What's missing?

Thank you

Yes of course the exchange rates change continuously. But what I meant was that if the user in the send/request dialog enters a fiat amount and lets the wallet calculate the bitcoin amount, then it is the user's intention to e.g. send 100 USD and it would be helpful if the application would record that fact as part of the transaction.

So that the information would be available to the user when using the wallet at a later date.

I think it would be beneficial to record the fiat currency amount if the user sets it in the send/request dialog.

And the second question then becomes, who is the right person, the user or the developer, to answer the first question.

Users are almost always the wrong people to ask when it comes to technical questions.

Yes, but the risk that forgotten password poses is not really a technical question, is it? I would say it's more like a behaviouristic question.

Anyway, I'm just one of those users that dislikes it when an application thinks it knows better than me what's good for me.

So the question then becomes, which one is a bigger risk, forgotten passwords or malware.

And the second question then becomes, who is the right person, the user or the developer, to answer the first question.

When the user of the Android Wallet wants to do a backup he has to give a password otherwise the application won't do the backup. Should the application really force the user to give a password? I mean one of the biggest security risks when it comes to losing bitcoins is in my opinion forgotten passwords. Why not make it optional.

Du skulle inte ha möjlighet att ta in i sortimentet prylar som BeagleBone eller MinnowBoard? Eller datorkomponenter som moderkort, nätaggregat och chassin?

Ok, thanks for the info

Exactly what kind of an attack could a rogue exit node orchestrate?

And why is the android wallet more vulnerable than the satoshi client?
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Android wallet and TOR on: November 23, 2013, 04:03:43 PM
Just to follow up on this. I tested this network log application
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=com.googlecode.networklog

And with the information it provides it looks very much like Orbot manages to route the Android Wallet over Tor.

Btw. is the Android wallet more at risk from an rogue exit node than the satoshi client?
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Android wallet and TOR on: November 03, 2013, 06:05:09 AM
Is there a way to know for sure whether the android wallet bypasses Orbot or not?

I did a test transaction and looked it up at http://blockchain.info and the IP address listed under 'Relayed by IP' was not my own. But then again it doesn't have to be even if the android wallet connects directly.

I'm wondering whether the Android bitcoin wallet works with TOR?

Because this page https://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj/wiki/Limitations gives the impression that it wouldn't work. But then again Orbot https://www.torproject.org/docs/android.html.en gives the impression that it can take the network traffic from the bitcoin wallet and route it over TOR.

I'm confused.

***bump***

Perhaps a moderator could move the question to a better forum?
