I think BTC will easily hit $300 this year.  It might even stabilize above $300.

Here's some evidence:
1. The Chinese are starting to buy a bunch of it and the government practically endorses it.
2. The closure of silk road only temporarily depressed the price (although if/when the fbi sells the seized coins the price will certainly drop for a while, but it will be good to get bitcoin into the hands of honest people)
3. The first bitcoin atm's are opening up (in Canada) and it is becoming easier for businesses to accept the coin.

Plus, I think if bitcoin becomes large enough most stores will want to follow the rules and tax bit coin transactions.  This would slow any negative potential government intervention. Once you can buy all of your groceries at Walmart with bitcoin I can see the market cap approaching $1 trillion (in several years).

If the current trend of bitcoin price continues (~1000% year) it could easily hit $1,000 next year, at which point it will be hard for me not to sell some   Grin

Ha I was right!

Hi Tranz,

I downloaded 1.2.1 and I'm not having any problems at the moment (other than missing commands you put in the latest version).  I'm still getting the checkpoint is too old error...

I just have some questions on how stake works.

Do I have to leave my HoboNickles in my wallet for a solid 10 days before the Stake: 0.00 HOBO becomes positive?  Or is it possible some of the HoboNickels I bought have "aged" somewhat?  Also,  do I have to have my wallet running the whole time to receive the stake or just turn it on once every couple of days or so?  In short, how do I know that I'm gaining stake?

Thanks!

Sell? Then wait another year for 10 000$ by your logic.. *sigh*

I never said I would sell my bitcoins at $1,000, just that I'd be tempted to.  Also, the market will probably remain volatile at that point... I could sell at $1,000 and buy at $500 for example.

I use coinbase, and I haven't had any problems.  Plus they offer 2-factor authentication, which is a plus.  It's free to then transfer the coins to any other wallet you choose.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Long time lurker jumping in on: October 30, 2013, 04:02:10 AM
Hi pinkelephant,

I'm also a long time lurker of these forums - I bought my first bitcoins in May.

Questions 1 and 3 can be answered at the same time: probably not.  Normal computing power (even when using graphics cards) can not compare to the sheer computing power of ASIC miners that hit the market earlier this year.  I tried mining for a week back in May when the difficulty was 1/10th of what it is now.  After a week I didn't even mine enough to be able to withdraw from the pool :/

Regarding question 2 there are several websites that offer multi-mining pools/software but I haven't really used them due to my weak computing power.  Coin choose tells you what coin is the most profitable to mine and then sell when compared to bitcoin if you want to choose manually. http://www.coinchoose.com/

If I were you I'd spend a little money buying bitcoins now (but not more than you can afford to lose!).  Also, I wouldn't panic sell whenever the price drops significantly.  The value of bitcoins seems to always increase in the long run, like 1000% every year....

Hope this helps
