1  Economy / Economics / Re: When will Bitcoin take over the money transfer market on: November 18, 2013, 09:30:56 PM
Probably mentioned on this forum before but the end of WU and the rest of them will happen when people on the third world start using bitcoin for payments.

Bitcoin has been practically designed for Africans/Indians etc living with poor infrastucture, but within mobile phone coverage to use their bitcoin wallet. Imagine 1 billion Africans using bitcoin for remittances and an alternative to the dollar

Howdy

I run an extremely laid-back Unix Shell Account service called Soupwhale Shells. I own a couple high-spec linux servers and I give people an account with which they can do whatever they want, except for certain illegal activities. Non unix geeks would probably call our service VPS or Seedbox or Website or Game Server hosting, even though it's really all of the above.

So far, i've offered people free accounts, with unlimited CPU, RAM, and bandwidth usage, only limiting their disk usage (10GB), and i've let them pay for more space with a one-time fee. But I'd like to start actually monetizing this service.

So I bought up a couple more servers! Right now, I'm just breaking even and my load% is basically 0, so I'd like to start advertising.

Obviously I'd like to be paid in bitcoin, so I figured I should make a thread here.

John

Great stuff, and wish you all the luck but..
Could you just update where the servers are located - I think others would find this important too.

I think there was talk about IG Index in the UK offering a binary options product

http://www.afr.com/p/blogs/markets_today/ig_offers_options_for_clients_champing_D11zEY3AVo4JZtVOdERuOL

Have not heard much about this, perhaps because the spread was massive.

Any one have any experience with this ?

Exactly, btc is a massively growing market of buyers. More buyers = high price. Although these people are new to the market and so are like sheep in the headlights and get easily scared and sell at the slightest sign of the price going down. But the price will always recover and go even higher. Like I said before, the market of buyers is growing exponentially.

Some "hack" ( newpaper men for my American cousins )  should pick up on this. Love to see this featured on the Daily Mail website with pictures of the Bolton window cleaners accepting Bitcoin. The big banks would go mental. Once mom and pop operations start taking bitcoin the end is nigh for their monopoly.

What about a BTC options trade or sorts, there must be some sort of financial product whereby you can hedge i.e go short and cover your long BTC exposure??

Like a BTC put option?

---------------------

Update; after a quick search on google I came across this:  http://btclevels.com/   might be of interest or is there an alternative?

As soon as it is available, bitshares aims to do just that. Protoshares are being mined now for that. http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=13.0

I think there is something very interesting in the bitshares concept. Although I, and I think many other people, would like more of a "vanilla" solution. That is, a straightforward option ( call and put ) contract based on an aggregate strike price on Mtgox, bitstamp and other exchanges. The contract length should be for at least a few months - this is where btclevels.com falls down as the binary contract length is so very short. As bitcoin is unregulated and not traded on an open exchange the option premium should be low.

The price of BTC is so volatile as the currency matures people will absolutely need products like this to mitigate price risk. I am new in taking an active interest in BTC although have been aware of the currency since 2011 after reading a New Yorker article. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/10/10/111010fa_fact_davis

Personally I am really surprised their is not a product in that hedges bitcoin price risk??

Made a simple stop-loss order system (monitors price and executes a market order at the trigger price)

http://stoploss.pw/

Only has Mt.Gox support but Bitstamp support is coming soon Smiley

That is a great idea, none of the exchanges have this functionality which is a common feature of equity trading accounts.

Good luck

What a shame it is closing down.

With the PR bitcoin is getting at the moment this is a real lost opportunity in my eyes. An ebay for BTC could really break out into the mainstream and attract allot more people to the currency. ie need bitcoin to buy something from bitmit etc

Anyway... Can anyone come up with some real good alternatives. I know about cryptothrift and coingig, any other similar ebay/amazon's of the bitcoin world??
10  Economy / Goods / Re: 1oz GOLD INGOT SKULL & CROSSBONES GOLD BAR. OLD POUR GOLD SKULL BAR on: November 13, 2013, 10:51:13 AM
Just by way of feedback to the OP. Why take the risk on a hand poured bar that has not been independently assayed. People might be interested but for a much lower price that factors in the "risk" that the bar is under 999.9 parts per thousand or under weight. The price for a Kruger on Agora Commodities is 3.64BTC why should I risk it?

Just some constructive feedback from someone in the business.

Hi

We are a firm dealing with scrap gold and bullion based in Central London. We are dipping our toes into the world of bitcoin and as a starting point will have a few listings on bitmit.net for gold bullion. Username; Bullion333

We wanted to announce our website to the bitcoin community with much fanfare, but have been stopped in our tracks by our bank ( HSBC ). They found out about our plans to launch a site selling bullion for bitcoin during an innocent conversation at our local branch in central London. After being summonsed to the managers office, like a naughty schoolboy, they threatened to pull all funding and close all accounts on our existing business, unless we reversed our plans. Even through our company has been trading for a number of years and is profitable.

Bitcoin is a powerful disruptive technology and the banks are running sacred.

Fortunately, we have a few options in place as we are an established business.
