1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: You have crypto but no fiat but need loan? MoneyToken is here to help you on: June 04, 2018, 01:37:15 PM
If you have crypto and no fiat and need money, sell some crypto.
If you need a loan and have no income or assets (property, etc.) then you shouldn't take out a loan.

Great innovation. with it's views and values, it will be a success,  with the team behind this project

You mean the photoshopped pictures of Hilary Swank and some Asian guy?
Sure they're all Photoshopped, they're just the ones I found most easily.

I just want to point out that most of the news stories I see are written by people who obviously don't know a thing about bitcoins.  So take it with a grain of salt.

There's your answer.

I have worked in various news media jobs in several countries and in my experience:

  • Journalists often have little to no specialist knowledge of the subject they are reporting on
  • They are under pressure to report headlines that get clicks on their websites, or viewers on tv
  • Because of this they will sometimes ignore facts that dilute the impact of the headline (or disprove it)
  • Because of a lack of knowledge they basically just regurgitate what 'experts' have said, which tends to favour the received wisdom (read: establishment viewpoint) of the age
  • There does not have to be an organised conspiracy to create an observable phenomenon

That does not mean that some actors (whales) are not trying to manipulate via the media (oc they are)

Bump.

I was just about to post the same question. Would love to hear someone's experience of this if anyone's got it working.

So many questions from people who've clearly not even given a cursory reading to the WP.
While there are obviously some risks involved, as with any crypto investment, the WP was one of the better and to-the-point, no jargon ones I've come across, and one of the only ones with a solid real world, tangible use case immediately after the crowdsale.
I was very impressed.

Not meaning to sound rude, but what exactly is your idea? I.e. in what way can the use of blockchain technology enhance physical security?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining Cryptonite ~ Win10 vs. Gnu/Linux vs. Simpleminer/Ethos on: January 11, 2018, 10:19:38 PM
Hi all,

My first post on the forums!  Roll Eyes

So I'm setting up a mining rig. I've bought all the gear and should be assembling a custom frame etc by early Feb ready to go. I'm just doing some more research into platforms and was hoping to tap into the brain trust here for advice.

I'm starting with 4x Vega 64, but with the possibility to scale on this one rig to 13 cards on the H110 (although I understand once you hit 6 or so stability is an issue).

Background: I use Arch Linux as my daily driver on my personal machine (a beat up, lovable old X220) and while I was looking into Windows alternatives I of course came across Simpleminer and Ethos. I've also got a smidge of Python and Bash skills. I'd prefer to use open-source OS if it doesn't effect profitability too much, but it's not a red line. I'd be mining XMR or some other alts that are more profitable atm, like ETN or SUMO.

So my questions are:

  • Seen as there's a few comprehensive guides (e.g. this one) on setting up Vegas to reach 1900H/s or 2000H/s on Win10/Cryptonite, is it worth it to try another route?
  • If the answer to that is 'yes' or 'maybe', does it make much difference using one of the packaged distros as opposed to, say, a clean Lubuntu install?
  • Could I get similar hashrates on a Linux distro with some tweaking?
  • Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!

I'm mining ETN/XMR/SUMO depending on the profitability. Basically, anything CryptoNote.
I've never tested crypto-coinz calculator.
Out of interest, how accurate do you find it? I always assumed it was wildly overestimating profits...
