1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you ever convince or encourage someone to invest in Bitcoin? on: January 06, 2018, 07:58:02 PM
I tend to educate people on the technological breakthrough behind the bitcoin network. I don't like this pump and dump mentality and I don't think of having bitcoin as an investment... it kind of misses the point.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain tech employed on sharing bikes? on: January 06, 2018, 06:44:12 PM
I struggle to understand how a blockchain will mitigate the risk of a bike being stolen? Am I missing something here? What is stopping someone from cutting a bike lock and just stealing the bike? When you "rent" the bike would you have to lock up an amount of crypto as collateral to ensure you take the proper steps to secure it properly?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: managing private keys on: January 06, 2018, 06:32:46 PM
I think the hardware wallets are the best option right now for storing your private key in.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CME Futures are coming! on: January 06, 2018, 06:25:45 PM
It's a cash settled market. No bitcoins are actually traded. It allows people to trade on the volatility of the bitcoin price, which is essentially gambling. I'm more interested in seeing a bitcoin ETF which is essentially a stock price which will closely track the bitcoin price allowing people exposure to the market with registered investments.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am new to Bitcoin, how can I get started? on: January 06, 2018, 06:14:02 PM
For me, the best resource is Andreas Antonopolous. His Mastering Bitcoin book is the best resource to get a real in depth knowledge of how the bitcoin protocol works and what a bitcoin actually is. The first two chapters are very accessible and can be read at github for free.

If you want something to listen too and want to absorb some crypto currency knowledge more passively, I recommend listening to Andreas' interviews with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. They are a very good introduction.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Too late to get involved into Bitcoin? on: January 06, 2018, 06:05:14 PM
If you believe it's a growing market, it's not too late. You think this is the peak? However, I believe there is a lot to still play out in this space... a shakeout will occur. A black friday type event, but it will nothing like we've ever seen before. You need to be prepared to go through these events and not lose your head. Easy to say, but much harder to think rationally when an event like that occurs.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin the most popular cryptocurrency? on: January 06, 2018, 05:56:34 PM
Bitcoin was first. Bitcoin did it the best. Bitcoin has endured 9 years of attacks and always emerges stronger. The name is important. Once the scaling issues are resolved and a higher density of adoption is achieved it will blow everything out of the water, I believe.
