1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Magic: the Gathering blockchain analysis? Also, theory of motive.. on: February 22, 2014, 03:58:48 AM
Another note: people here seem to advocate buying Magic: the Gathering BTC for the eventual re-opening of withdrawals. However, with the exchange locked down the total amount of BTC and $$$ are fixed. No closed-system transaction can change any of that; for every buyer there's a seller of equal magnitude in both directions. Only the exchange rate (i.e. notional value) changes.

So in this case, we can assume there's a BTC shortfall, meaning someone won't get their BTC out. We don't yet know if there's been a shortfall of $$$ as well, but less likely unless Magic: the Gathering has been really naughty. Hence, the rational thing to do is be positioned in $$$ so as not to be caught last one on the ship. In fact, the drop in BTC price on Magic: the Gathering is the opposite of what Karpeles would want if he were trying to make right by everyone.. ideally he'd want the maximum $ value for selling an existing stake of BTC so that he could go out and buy BTC elsewhere and bring back to Magic: the Gathering to fill the hole.

Might it be more likely for them to have cash shortfall.  I thought they charged fees in BTC and since they were first BTC exchange me thinks BTC was something they have plenty of in backup supplies etc.. But with banking issues, seized accounts, and maybe overspending? I think a cash shortfall is possibility.  Well, we should know soon or maybe not....still waiting for Midas and LTC to arrive not that anyone cares anymore.

2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When can I get an avatar and why stuck at 14 activity? on: November 25, 2013, 10:49:01 PM
On that note it would have been nice if it clearly stated on the avatar setup page that I could not have one.  That would have saved me some wasted time trying to select it 3-4 times.  And why does it always say can't post last post was less than 360 seconds ago when it has been longer than a week? And since when does anyone say 360seconds instead of 6 minutes lol?

I'm really not sure why there's a million alts being developed. Surely the best way to move forward with crypto currency would be for everybody to get behind the one to get it into the mainstream. At the moment it's Bitcoin. Can somebody explain to me why there's a need for any more than one?

The mastercoin protocol being developed may answer your question.  Mastercoin is an alt that is being developed that has many features that both alts and BTC so far have not been able to offer.  Namecoin's story is similar in that it wasn't just an alt for speculation and a knock off of BTC. but sometimes I wonder if anyone is actually working on namecoin anymore.

Your very right though.  There are a bit too many alts and most of them are redundant.

If there was any credibility to this then we should be able to find evidence in Chinese stock prices when they approach 8's and 4's.

I doubt it matters enough to leave any noticeable sign

I usually print them.  I once wrote down keys by hand.  I was also concerned about getting upper and lower case letters confused so I underlined all uppercase letters.  Might be helpful.

I have used BitVisitor for almost a year.  They definitely pay out once you reach threshold.
