1  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Recovering old Bitcoin wallet with short seed on: January 19, 2018, 05:09:32 AM
I have this problem atm.

I updated Electrum to 3.0.5 from 3.0.3. I've tried using my 8 word seed to restore and no balance or history is showing.

The 2 ways I have tried are:

1. New wallet from old seed. It can create but no balance or history shows.

2. 2FA method but get stuck at enter seed (the "Next" button is grayed out after entering seed). I am using a 8 word seed. Some other people that have commented on YouTube also have my problem.

I have been looking for solution for 2 weeks now.

Ok, so I updated to 3.0.5 and tried this solution (http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/2fa.html#restoring-from-seed) to recover wallet with my seed (8 words, I created wallet on version 3.0.3).

The 'Next button" is grayed out and I cannot enter the seed as if I haven't got enough words or entered something wrong. I only had 8 words when I created the wallet, and I have seen if other posts that people are using more than 8 words. I also have checked the spelling numerous times.

Do I need more words for newer versions of Electrum to recover my wallet from only the seed/wallet with 2factor auth?

I have now tried 2 different methods to try to recover my wallet using seed.

Any help would be great.

Windows blocked the file soon as I tried to open it.

I don't know who to trust now, if even the official website files get blocked.

Also I get the pop up when I open Electrum wallet, http://puu.sh/yWxUb/329776e8f1.png .

your Malwarebyte is not blocking the official website! nor is it blocking Electrum!

what it is blocking is an Electrum server called "us01.hamster.science". and that is a false positive that only Malwarebyte blocks for some reason.
just go to your Network settings (you can click on the circle at the bottom right corner of the Electrum window) and change your server from there. choose any other ones and you are good to go.

Thankyou. Now to figure out where my coins are lol.

I've updated to 3.0.4 but I can't see my history or balance at all.

I used old seed on the new wallet setup.

I can't seem to find a solution anywhere online.

Hi,

I update to latest version and tried to recover using my seed.

I made new wallet with old seed, but I do not see my balance or any history.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am very new to this all.

Hi,

New to this all.

I had an older version of the wallet.

Saw the warning and installed new version.

I am trying to recover the wallet. I went through the steps, created new wallet and put the seed in and created new password.

I don't see anything in my balance.

I'm not sure if I have done everything correctly. Do I need to move anything across from old wallet cause I have already deleted all the old files and only have the new ones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
