Find altcoins that have a unique real life use, like Upfiring, Powerledger, Decision Token, DNA etc. Lower the market cap the more potential for it to grow.

As a rule of thumb you should store in a wallet, and offline wallets are preferred, Ledger or Trezor.

That's what I did, showed my significant other the logins to the exchanges, the wallets, and my phone and computers. I made a copy of it all, hid it, and keep another offsite. I'll have to update sometimes, but it's a simple system.
