1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just hit 900$ on: November 26, 2013, 07:44:09 PM
This isn't an 'Its going to crash thread'

Its been struggling to break past $900 for a while now, as of writing this $950, just interested to see where it goes.

Bitstamp had a bit of a surge but still only 845$

So what do you think? Here to stay, or temporary bubble?
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chances of $150 again on: November 24, 2013, 06:08:26 PM
Nope

Think 400 is now the new floor...

I think $760 is the new floor.

This, I was fortunate enough that I sold some at 840ish just incase yesterday and was able to buy back again at 760ish.
5  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins UK future looks bleak on: November 24, 2013, 05:46:43 PM
Excellent article and as you say the future looks bleak.

However while I can still make SEPA transfers to and from exchanges I see no reason to get left behind on an individual level. If BTC does start getting the nod of approval from other countries around the world then expect to see furious backtracking.

The part about preventing crime is laughable when you look at banks past records.

It does seem that we are in the middle of a massive boom right now, but will it crash or not? It is afterall gaining lots of media exposure and slowly becoming more mainstream.
My position is I bought 2btc a few weeks ago for around 600$, it was money I could afford to lose but didn't want to. I sold 1 earlier at 850 so I'm up on my original input plus $250 and I still have 1btc that I will leave as a wait and see.
If it does crash hugely I have money to buy more, if it doesn't I still have 1 bitcoin I got for free so I'm not too fussed. Curious as to how this will all pan out!

At some point in life you will be grey and old talking about that time you owned 2 whole BTC worth well over 6 digits and sold it for $850 Cheesy

True true!
I'm already getting grey hairs over the 200 bitcoins I bought for £3 ish and then sold a bit later because all people seemed to use them for was Silkroad!

I will be investing more in bitcoin, but just a small amount each month, don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. The litecoins I got a while back have doubled in value as well so i'm interested to see where that goes.

8  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 Million dollars per coin by year 2020. I am not kidding. on: November 23, 2013, 02:26:16 PM
As has been said, there doesn't need to be enough wealth in the world for something to be worth a certain amount. If everyone tried to sell all their bitcoins now they value would plummet to nothing almost instantly.
Supply and demand, if people want them and the supply isn't there than the value goes up.
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: anyone successfully arbitrage trade bitcoins on: November 21, 2013, 10:26:29 PM
The logistics are the problem. Its moving that real world money about, even with SEPA its 3-4 days.
There was around a £100 price difference between Bitstamp and Bitbargain (which isn't an exchange but rather a bitcoin market place) but eveyones realised that now and its drove the price down with too many sellers.

Lets say you invest in 1btc and you say got it for 600usd on btstamp (making up the prices) sent your 1btc to MtGox and got 670$ for it, minus the trading fee. Then assuming you live in the Sepa zone you wire that money to your account. Thats another exchange fee + the fee your bank usually charges to accept that transfer. Then ANOTHER fee to send the money back to the exchange, that and the fact its taken nearly 7 days to get the money from one exchange to another. In that time you would have probably made more money hanging on to the btc.
And thats with SEPA international can take even longer.

December or early next year I'd say, especially if this upward trend continues. People who bought their coins less than two weeks ago have already seen them double in value, its quite astonishing.
