1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoinlondon.org scam? on: June 14, 2016, 05:19:09 PM
Urgh. Man, the internet is full of douches.

Bitcoinlondon.org is a scam. If anyone comes across this thread when they are looking for information on this site, maybe thinking of using their services, don't.

As the douche above helpfully pointed out, the shop at the address provided by bitcoinlondon.org is called Anything Goes. You can check out the whois records for anything-goes.co.uk which has my name and the address in question. Anything Goes is also listed on my linkedin page. That address is linked to me and I am saying: bitcoinlondon.org is nothing to do with me and has co-opted the address for their own purposes.

Therefore, even if everything else about this company checked out, they are using a company name and address on their website that is not theirs, and this alone is enough to consider their entire existence a scam.

As in the posts above, I recommend you report it and hopefully it will get closed down.

Paul.

Are you reading this thread? Are you part of this scam?

THEY ARE USING A FAKE ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE.

They are using a company that I still own (I requested it to be struck off, but it has not yet happened). They are also using an address that my company _used_ to be registered at. I imagine they got it from the London Gazette which is a publication showing all recently struck off companies (certainly, the dates are very similar). They've done this so that they look legitimate to anyone who takes a cursory glance.

What legitimate company uses someone else's name and address listed right on their home page? You don't think this is a scam?

The domain name and website is hosted by namecheap. You could try contacting their abuse dept (assuming they have one). They are using an SSL certificate from PostiveSSL/Comodo (since 3rd May 2016). Try contacting them as they would have needed to pay using card.

At the very least, they might be able to revoke the cert or take the website down.

The livechat is provided by zendesk (zopim), so contact them too. You never know, they may assist. Zopim seems to have a 14 day free trial, but after that it needs paying for. I don't know how long the domain has been up and running for, but looking in reddit etc, it looks like longer than that.

The FAQ pdf has the name 'Ivan' in it as the author.

As you know, crypto currencies are pseudo anonymous and when used with Tor, VPNs, mixers, stolen credit cards and fake companies (yay for me...), it's almost impossible to find out who is behind things like this. I don't know how much you lost, but I don't think you'll get it back. It might be that all you can do is get the site taken down to prevent others losing money Sad.

HTH.

Hi all,

This is nothing to do with me. They've just found the name was struck off and used it. I'm sorry to say, but you've been scammed.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Validating altcoin addresses on: January 03, 2014, 12:56:11 AM
Hi,

Is there a standard way to validate altcoin addresses? By validate, I mean confirm the address entered is a valid address for the currency chosen, for example, if a user selected QuarkCoin from a drop down box and entered a ZetaCoin address, how can I check for that?

Thanks,
Paul.
