Much less bitcoins will be coming in after the halving I assume, so the price will rise.

They don't have online auctions do they? I doubt they do, but it seems ridiculous to have a non online auction for bitcoins, maybe I'm wrong.

Can anyone clarify for me:

How does the FBI have access to the bitcoins? They have unencrypted wallet.dat file or they  know the password?

I read all the time about how bitcoins can't be seized... so what happened in the case of DPR's bitcoins?

He probably gave it to them for reduced charges. And what will they do with it? Simple - auction it or sell to some rich investor, which means they will not sell it on an exchange. And NO it will not cause a crash because someone investing milions in BTC doesn't do it just to dump all immediately.

I doubt that. My bet is that the government is going to KEEP those bitcoins for the future. They know they are potentially too valuable to sell. They could be worth billions one day and I think they know it's possible. The government won't be selling these coins, I think they are going to keep them forever. Think of it- there's virtually no other way to get this many bitcoins anymore. The USA is now one of the top bitcoin holders! Welcome to our new partner. :-)

So they will store the private key(s) in Fort Knox?
A judge ordered them to be sold.

I would think they are obliged to sell all seized assets by government auction.  At least, that's how it works in Canada.  Isn't it the same in the US?

By government auction do you mean to the general public via setting up an online exchange sort of? Or selling it to banks or investment firms on wallstreet?

Probably a really stupid question, I'm unfamiliar with derivatives, is this the nature of the game? I can buy into Hillary Clinton winning the next election, If I'm right then those who bet against her losing , their bitcoins are lost and go to those who bet on her winning. Is this correct? How does the payout work? ELI5 please.

I got verified, when bitcoins were 100$ each and haven't seriously looked into them since now Sad
As for properly owning the bitcoins and being able to use them, I'd need a bitcoin wallet or some type of client yes? What would you recommend?

Thanks again for the help btw mates.

Anyone?
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Noob questions about Exchanges on: November 23, 2013, 12:39:08 AM
Hi, thank you in advance for answering my questions regarding exchanges. To provide context, I'll be using bitstamp as an exchange. My question regarding buying coins via the exchange is do you actually own the coin? Like can I put them on an online wallet? If so how does one do that through bitstamp. My next question is regarding the way you get your money into bitstamp via wire transfer from the U.S, Has anyone does this? Can you please explain the process and if it has gone smoothly or not? And lastly, how does cashing out of bitstamp play out? Once you sell your bitcoins to someone on Bitstamp can you get your USD out of the exchange via wire?

I may have worded some parts of my questions wrong, I'm a noob, please forgive me, never even wired $$ before, was just on the phone with the bank talking about it.
