1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nothing works! on: November 28, 2013, 08:25:01 PM
I have to completely agree with OP - it's so frustrating to Buy/Sell/Trade Bitcoins and Alt Currencies. Even the most reputed exchange in Canada, VirtEx still has not approved my new account created on November 20th - and then I still have to wait 2-3 days for a deposit to go through. I can't trust more than half of these exchanges and the ones I do are swamped.

There will never be a mass adoption of virtual currencies until we get some legitimate players involved - PayPal, Interact, the credit card companies, official banking institutions. I don't understand why these companies have not jumped in Bitcoin - it's like printing money for them. Once these companies get on board, the value of Bitcoin will explode.

I asked a similar question yesterday so I'll direct you to that thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=344537.msg3691290

It is my understanding that you can create a button that generates a URI handler for the visitor's browser. However that URI handler will only work if a wallet is installed on their computer that they are using to browse with. Google "Bitcoin URI" and you will get a ton of information.

Good luck!

Just dipping my toe into the Altcoin waters and found this post, thanks so much for offering this to us newbies to PPC.

The way I'm viewing Bitcoins vs the other Altcoins (namely LTC and PPC) is the same way I saw MySpace vs Facebook.

MySpace was the pioneer, it was robust, had huge valuation, got all the media attention and was even bought out by a powerful traditional-media company (News Corporation). So how did Facebook usurp the throne? By bending to the will of it's users instead of being led by a traditional corporate plan. Facebook evolved based on user feedback and Zuckerberg was smart enough/naive enough to allow his vision to grow and change to wherever it's user base wanted to.

Bitcoins are MySpace, but right now I don't think anything out there is its Facebook counter-part. However as most of the general public are still in "9600 baud BBS land" at the moment, I think we will be celebrating BTC for quite some time.

6  Other / Beginners & Help / Best "Donate Now" Button on: November 24, 2013, 12:01:35 AM
I did some searching on this forum and on the web but I keep getting conflicting information on this topic.

What is the best (i.e. easiest to set-up and most secure) "Donate Now" button that a webmaster can put on his site. Just a simple text field for a user to add their Bitcoin Address for sending the payment and a one-click button that would send a predetermined amount to a fixed Bitcoin Address owned by the web site?

So far it looks like blockchain.info has an API for doing this - are there others? Are there community built or open source projects that do the same?

Another question if you don't mind. If BTC transactions can not be reversed, what stops someone from putting a "Donate 0.0001 BTC" button that actually sends 1 BTC to the destination? I feel like I'm missing something integral here....

Thanks all for your wisdom!

Canada: VirtEx for buying BTC with funds transferred from your Canadian bank account (via a $5 electronic bill payment transaction)

Pick me, pick me! Sorry, I'm just trying to get my account above.. ummm.. ZERO Smiley Been plying with faucets but they all have minimum amounts for withdrawal. And I signed up to Virtex last week and they still have not confirmed my account so I can buy Bitcoins Sad When I first signed up BTC was at $575... I hate missing the boat.

Wow, I'm a Zen Cart ecommerce designer and after looking at all Zen Cart/Bitcoin plugins I chose BIPS - YESTERDAY! I had no issue creating a new account and installing the software on demo site. I can't believe there were no warning or announcements anywhere to be seen, if It wasn't for this post I would not have known of any breach. Luckily I had yet to transfer BTC's to test their plugin - whew!

Sorry to hear the losses on here, I hope you find restitution quickly.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Plug for a Canadian Local Bitcoin Tech Writer on: November 23, 2013, 02:00:59 AM
In my quest for absorbing as much information about Bitcoin as possible I came across this site and was impressed by the width and scope of the Bitcoin articles within. I'm sure other know of this site but I don't know how well it's known by us "newbies" so I just wanted to promote it. Plus, the head writer (Vitalik Buterin) is a local to us Canadians in Southern Ontario Smiley

Anyway, there are some fascinating technical but easy-to-understand articles on this site and I think it's a great resource for anyone interested in Bitcoins.

Cheers!

PS - I am in no way associated with this site - though I wish I was about four years ago Smiley
