hmm now I'm getting

in an endless cycle. Is that a problem at my end still?

thank you for the tip. I used the preset settings, perhaps they are out of date, but have now entered that manually (let's see if it makes a difference!)

(edit before even posting: thanks for the definite. I didn't manage to find out about stratum compatibility but have now entered the settings you've given)

I realise that CPU mining's day has been and gone, I just wanted to try stuff out and join in (I believe, perhaps wrongly, that mining is still a necessary part of the whole thing functioning?) But thanks for the warning;)

Good afternoon, evening, morning

I just started last night, running a Mac Pro with Mavericks. I'm not massively techy but have worked patiently through a lot of help pages to get this far:) I signed up to mine on slush's pool and have a worker, and am running guiminer. It's reporting 3 Mhash/s. BUT nothing shows up after a few hours on the slush's pool stats and I'm seeing a lot of this in the console (blocks etc hastily anonymised in case it should be):

2013-11-23 15:32:50: Listener for "Default": api2.bitcoin.cz:8332 23/11/2013 15:32:50, long poll: new block 00000001ef3XXXXXX
2013-11-23 15:35:51: Listener for "Default": api2.bitcoin.cz:8332 23/11/2013 15:35:51, long poll: IO error
2013-11-23 15:38:39: Listener for "Default": api2.bitcoin.cz:8332 23/11/2013 15:38:39,XXXXXXX2, _rejected_

How can I tell I'm actually doing anything in the pool? On the discussion of slush's pool it says the stats are often out of date/stuck. I know I could wait a week to see if that changes but seems a bit silly...

and the 'get balance' system in guiminer only gets a 301 from the server, as follows:

 Server replied: 301, <html>

<head><title>301 Moved Permanently</title></head>

Grateful for any pointers on this...
